This is HUGE!
For those who don't know, CNN is a TV channel viewed by thousands of people. Sometimes they also conduct interviews and edit footage.

Wow! Never heard of them.

One of the countries that could most gain

When talking about "countries" you always have to distinguish between government/elite and population. Same in the US - doesn't matter what helps the majority. They're not making the decisions.

Anyone else who finds the article confusing? Does he suggest Bitcoin is Napster and Applepay iTunes? Or is everything now Napster but then - after further development sparked by Applepay - Crypto iTunes?

I want to make a case for replacing "bits" with "hals" or "finneys". I think this would be a fitting tribute right alongside Satoshi forever onward as long as Bitcoin exists.

Looking at GMX's password recovery process, to recover an account it looks like they will either send an email to s***@v*****.com
or they will let you enter your birthdate. Perhaps somebody exploited one of these two options?
reddit formatting markdown fucked up the email address characters, but it looks like S followed by 6 stars @ V followed by 8 stars

entering birth date is rate limited to 3 attempts per 24 hrs. So probably wasn't accessed through this unless the attacker had narrowed down the range a bit

Re: PayPal’s Braintree Embraces Bitcoin, One-Touch Payments

Yes, everyone wants to accept bitcoin, but that's not news. The real question is why me as a user would want to pay with bitcoin? When I pay with credit card, I get 2% cash back. When I pay with bitcoin I have to pay Coinbase 1% fee and I get zero cash back. In addition, I need to make sure the price of bitcoin hasn't moved between the time I bought them on Coinbase till I make the purchase. It's just a complete no-brainer that I should use my credit card whenever I can, instead of bitcoin.
A
nd just to clarify, the businesses are not really accepting bitcoins, they are only accepting them temporarily so they can immediately convert 100% into dollars.

2% cash back = merchants raise your price by 2% because they get higher fees

You do realize it's a joke that's trivializing and dismissing bitcoin right?

But to be fair, this is pretty much the least denigrating to Bitcoin that a joke can get.

Study: Majority of people 'unlikely' to invest in something they don't understand.
Study: Majority of people 'unlikely' to understand bitcoin.
Study: Majority of people 'unlikely' to ever understand economics.
Study: Majority of people 'unlikely' to use dollars after Dollar collapse.
Study: Majority of people 'unlikely' to want another national fiat system once they begin using crypto currency.

Denominate it as 100,000 bits. You can make a paper wallet on almost any surface or media. Be creative. Even on an old money bill.
Or a wood wallet. https://woodwallets.io/
Lots of ways.

Armory with an m-of-n backup with dedicated separate cold wallet and hot wallet computers. Distribute the m-of-n backups geographically and among a couple different safe deposit boxes. In your will write clear instructions on how to recover the coins with the backups. This is the safest way to store coins imo.

Anonymous and verifiable voting systems

A little bit of a contradiction here. How would you know what one identity, one person is, without an authority like a registration office?
or better put, how would you prevent a person from voting twice or multiple times? (let's call this the double-voting problem)
though it indeed is an interesting philosophical question what an identity is. if i'm a programmer at day and a rockstar at night, do i have two identities?

Only when this circle of transactions gets solved will bitcoin possibly reach it's consumer potential. We are years away from it but getting there.

In a nutshell we need a wallet that my 5 year old could use and show my gran why it's great. When this is done, we need a way for people to easily purchase bitcoin anywhere in the world. This is also dreadful at the moment, even some of my city it friends are put off by it... Entering card details on an unheard of website, uploading your passport , etc...

That said the most important thing now is to make wallets easy to use, they're all horrible at the moment with qr codes, transaction ids, confirmation times and addresses shown along with all that sort of programmer crap all over it. None of this info should be relevant eventually but we are all still excited by the protocol that the underlyings are exposed to people who don't want to know about how it works.
