Re: Intersango Exchange

I believe Intersango is the best kept secret in Bitcoin!

Agreed.  Some of the most tech-savvy and security-conscious people are behind it.

Aren't they the same folks who were running Bitcoinica? I think I might be more tech savvy than those guys. I least I know to not store 18,000 BTC online.

They were in the process of taking it over when the second hack happened. They can't be held responsible when they had only just taken over and hadn't had an opportunity to change anything.

This is why I stay put and never lend people more then they've repaid in a single time. Works every time and I've not got scammed (yet!)

That does lead to a chicken and egg problem though for new borrowers.

rexcoin – This is very important advice. I am going to forbid you from routing bitcoins borrowed from me through gambling services in future.

Peter,

Interesting....I was un-aware that this was going towards gambling after reading the OP.

It isn't going towards gambling. I just meant that lending money to a compulsive gambler directly into a gambling account was irresponsible. Even if said gambler intends to send it straight back out again (using the gambling service as a wallet).

This is the third loan request in as many days from accounts that have not been used for a long time.  Looks a little odd.

On the other hand maybe we are just seeing a resurgence in the usage of interest in bitcoin after a break due to the price drop. I returned to the community only recently after a long break.

ptd - you lent him 20 BTC and sent it directly to his gambling account?

Good point. That was irresponsible of me (I should have asked him to set up an alternative wallet service).  My past history lending to him (on that very address) shows he is trustworthy, but addicted to gambling.

rexcoin – Ask any recovering addict and they will all tell you that addicts must totally quit their addiction they cannot control it, that is why it is called an addiction.  Ask any addict in the throws of their addiction and every single one of them will tell you that 1) they are not addicted and 2) even if they are they are the one in a billion that can control it.

Waiting a bit to hear from ptd.

ptd?  Do you want to loan out 7 BTC to rexcoin?  Let us know.

I went to bed just after writing that last post (being a brit and it being 2am in the morning).

Yes, just tell me where you want the 7 BTC sent and I'll send it. I'll offer a compounded interest rate of 0.25% daily (equivalent to 7.78% every 30 days).

I'm quite happy to lend you some money (upto 23 bitcoins), but you should ask your creditors first if they are prepared to let you just pay them back late, since that will cost less and help you get out of your debt hole quicker.

Blockchain.info wallet bug (overflow errors when generating transactions)
by
ptd
on 19/01/2012, 23:48:13 UTC
EDIT: Bug turned out to only affect the display of values and has been fixed.

I recently tried out the blockchain.info wallet and found a nasty bug. Don't use it until this is fixed.

Here is the bug report I sent them
Quote
I put 73.13086 BTC in my blockchain.info wallet. When I decided to send money the blocks I was presented with to confirm didn't make sense. The figures didn't add up and some numbers were negative.

Sending 50 BTC from address A containing all my current bitcoins to B results in the following outputs (Y is what I believe to be your internal address):

B 7.05032704 (exactly 50 BTC mod 2^31 Satoshis)
A -19.82881296
Y 0.01

Other transactions produce results consistent with signed 32-bit integer arithmetic. I've decided not to accept any of these transactions.

Probably the most accurate program about economics I've ever watched.

Unfortunately you can only view it if you live in the UK (but we can't watch Hulu stuff).

All this means is that buyers have more of a preference for TradeHill and sellers prefer Mtgox.
Might want to rethink that theory.

Explain?

Allow me to turn what you have said on it's head.

Mtgox USD has been trading at a premium to TH USD most of the day.
A signal that a premium is worth paying to have your funds in gox.

Not neccesarily. All this means is that buyers have more of a preference for TradeHill and sellers prefer Mtgox. When consider that long term bitcoin miners tend to be sellers and newbies tend to be buyers, this is a good sign for TH (new adopters, without prior bias, are choosing it over Mtgox). Ultimately the most important sign is volume and there TH is still behind (1/6 of Mtgox at the time of writing).
