I'm a quasi-techie and only first learned about Bitcoin in early 2012 when the price was sub $20. O'Reilly is not new to talking about Bitcoin on his show. I'm eternally grateful for the seed that was planted that day. Had I not then watched his show; one of the only times I've watched his show ever; I would not likely be here (bitcointalk.org and financially free) today.

Somewhat unrelated; O'Reilly is a pretty entertaining watch, and Stossel has some good stuff on occasion. I don't watch any TV and rely on other to point to interesting tidbits.

Disclaimer: I was at an older family member's home and was casually watching. I am not a regular Fox News watcher.

Live Music for bitcoin

This may get moved to meetups like the last Arkansas thread. However, some great friends of mine have worked very hard to put on an upcoming event, Legends of Arkansas, at the Riverfront amphitheater in Little Rock, Arkansas. 18 bands, local artist, local food, and even local sponsors. I have 20 presale tickets for $5 each. They are $10 at the gate.

The event is this Sunday, September 15 from 11am-11pm. Support local artists and musicians part of the day, cheer for your favorite team whenever they may play. I hope to see at least one bitcoiner there.

If any Arkansas bitcoiners are interested (or out of stater's), please pm or post here. I'd love to get a few of these sold for bitcoin and be able to write an article for the local papers about bitcoin. It's good publicity, and will be a fantastic event. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I just wanted this to be seen by as many as possible given the smallness of the natural state.

Sorry, US market. I'm fairly certain worldwide shipping could be arranged as long as no local restrictions prohibit the items being sold. I will check with the owner and get back to you. The company is based in Florida.

I just want to see two things succeed: this guy's business and bitcoin as an ecommerce solution. Thanks for the clarifying reply.

One of my best friends has started a company that sells personal vaporizers, wax burners, hookah sticks, and amazingly versatile and standard ecigs. The prices are very competitive. I am trying to persuade him to accept bitcoin as payment. These are top quality items that carry generous warranties and guarantees.

His goal is to liquidate current inventory and increase his market base. He has a cursory bitcoin familiarity, and a great interest and curiosity in ctypto-commerce.  If there is some interest from our community; I will put a bitcoin payment option on his site, and advertise openly.

Please post here if you might be interested in spending a little coin on an amazing piece of kit.

This guy is a close personal friend that I have been trying to sell the idea of Bitcoin to for a few months. I believe that accepting bitcoins may be the breakthrough he has been looking for. I need feedback please.

Thanks in advance. Peace.

Where can I buy with coins?

I've been commissioned to sell all that's in grandma's house. I was hoping to do a few sales in bitcoins. Much of it is vintage and antique. Centrally located in the US. Let us know what you're looking for, and I bet someone can help you out. I need to make a post, but the item list is so vast, I can't get over the procrastination hurdle.

99.9% of my entourage and random street people don't know what is Bitcoin. We are far from mainstream.
Have you literally walked down the street and asked random people if they knew what Bitcoin was and kept a tally?

I have. We are far from mainstream. Despite all the cute ways to describe Bitcoin, the concept remains lost on most. Bitcoin has a great deal of potential; but outside of speculation, specialty marketplaces, and techy/nerdy/hardcore libertarians, Bitcoin is far from mainstream. My techie friends employed at places like Citrix, Microsoft, et al are relatively unfamiliar with Bitcoin. Your average would be user gets only the information espoused by the search engines - often related to black market trade. This turns many would be users off.

Actually, I am working on a side project at one of my businesses that will be 100% BTC funded.

What we're doing is offering to buy used but in good condition white cotton (bedsheets or old shirts, whatever), launder them by hand (no fiat), cut them down by hand (no fiat), re-sew them into new shirts, print on them and have them ready for pickup.

I'll pay my labor guy in BTC (he already approved), and we'll only buy the cotton with BTC from locals via word of mouth and craigslist.

I think I can keep the entire chain in BTC, especially since we're working on our own ink manufacturing, too.

Of course there are fiat-bought tools that are in the mix, but these were puchased for cash long before BTC arrived on the scene.

I like this idea and may borrow and mold it to fit my needs if that's OK? It is genius on so many levels. Good luck with your endeavor.

Looks like the prices have reached a trough, seeing $94.9 right now Smiley

Yep thanks for riding the bitcoin rollercoaster
The next ride is scheduled in (obscure noises) look forward to it Smiley

More people should watch the Aronofsky film "pi."

<----Badass, thumbs mf'ing up

More in line with the OP, my gut has been telling me (as I day trade a small amount on thin margins) to bail on my longer holdings. I hit my stop loss on my DTs, and was a few % away from my stop on long holdings. I chickened out and hope to buy in lower. Even though mathematically I know I made the quasi-right choice, I still feel like a chump and a traitor. While I think I'm right, secretly I hope I'm very wrong and I should've been buying. In the mean time I will hang up and listen. Just when you think you have it all figured out - Good luck guys and gals.

Re: One day, holding one bitcoin will make you a millionaire.
by

One day you won't be able to exchange BTC for any real money cause Governments and NWO will shut down exchangers and nobody is going to trade with you face to face in fear of under cover raid.

Actually BTC could probably become illegal just like other certain stuff that is illegal to possess on your hard drive. So make sure you have it encrypted (TrueCrypt is free and very good) with a huge 50+ character password including symbols and numbers to make it impossible to brute force in 1000 years, else if they find your BTC wallet you'd probably get 25 to Life for conspiracy to over throw Governments and NWO, labeled as national security risk, and put on no fly list.

Yes, this is our future. Sticking your head in the sand, or putting your fingers in your ears going "la la la..." won't stop it from happening. Some day, you'll wake up.

For the people doing BTC as an investment to make money, the time to cash out is not before the next crash, or the crash after that, but to cash out before you can't cash out anymore, regardless of value. But heck, even if you cash out the day before, nothing to stop the government from tracking and logging whats been going on for a while, and freezing bank accounts from everyone associated with BTC exchangers, etc. Oh can't happen? Look at Liberty Reserve.

You remind me of rigtards in the poker community.  Roll Eyes

I don't agree with either of your lines, but if I'm not mistaken Absolute Poker / Ultimate Bet had quite the 'superuser' fiasco a few years back. Pretty rigged IMO. The feds swooping in on Neteller and absconding with players money was also a very real happening for a few of us.

The government can't take Bitcoin unless the users allow it. Many would happily trade fiat for bitcoins off exchange if it came to that. If it is made a federal felony or results in time at Gitmo, we might not be so inclined, but until then Bitcoin as a protocol is as free as the speech in the user's respective country.

Liberty Reserve served a needed place in money services legit and otherwise. That need will continue to be met because it is indeed a need.

The more legit merchants and individuals that adopt Bitcoin, and the more it proves itself over time; the more impossible it becomes to place Pandora back in her Satoshian box.

finshaggy what you dont realise is that on the left panel where it shows your name, below it has a counter that tells you how many times you have been ignored.

it is such a shame that you pretend to have ignored me purely to avoid answering the questions i ask..

because i know that you have not infact ignored me because the ignore count has not increased.

but as i said before you would prefer to ignore direct questions about the basics, because you have no answers nor intend to go into the beginning of researching answers, due to your lack of intentions to begin these projects.

you spend all of your time writing up new projects in the hope someone will pay you money. and never spend the time to research a project to make it a workable plan.

what you also don't realise is that if your idea did infact have any notion of being a workable plan with a slim bit of success, i purely with my own funds could have easily have bought the land mass required for such a project.

and that is the part that makes me laugh the most. you have no intention to research the basics to get investment from big guys.  you do however want to swing wild images of uptopia around in the hope of scamming the naive users that could just about afford to send you some money, but not enough to chase after you and enforce a court judgement on you after you try running off.

Franky; while i think your tone is a bit harsh, you do make some valid points. A business needs a plan. That plan needs absolute understanding by the principals. Then comes presenting the plan to people that can help finance it and offer guidance and lessons about how to avoid common pitfalls.

Finshaggy should probably, change his name, learn how to write a plan with milestones and goals that need to be achieved towards success and challenges that need to be overcome, learn how to pitch said plan clearly and concisely; and finally dress a little better and avoid MJ for a few hours before presentinging the plan. There is nothing wrong with long hair, a beard, and eyes straight out of Pinapple Express. When combined with the lack of planning, all credibility is lost.

Finshaggy, I love that you are a dreamer. Add some planning and presentation, and you'll have the tools to succeed at whatever your dreams may be. Best of luck.

Not if you believe your god is omnipotent. If you believe your god is all-powerful then you do not have free will. If you believe he is not, then he is not a god.

What does omnipotence have to do with free will?

An omnipotent being would know the future before it occurred, in fact would be causing the future to happen as he wished. If you were traveling down a road and came to a fork would you go left or right? If you choose left and god knows you will go right, how is this an actual choice if you were really set on going left?

Aside from that, if you believe in the christian god, none of us chose to be placed into his twisted game of heaven versus hell, yet he purportedly eternally punishes anyone who doesn't succumb to his will. That is not choice, that is extortion, and it's against our manmade laws for a reason.

In addition there may be scientific evidence negating the possibility of free will, though I don't personally feel there's yet enough evidence for the hypothesis:
http://io9.com/5975778/scientific-evidence-that-you-probably-dont-have-free-will

Someone listened to one too many sermons rather than studying with an open mind. You really just described one of the great mysteries of man vs gods. It is angering and confusing to comprehend something so silly.

Let's view this though the lens of physics and science instead. Experimentally we have sent radio waves and small particles through time. What does this mean? It means that those creations existed at both inception and at another time. This opens the possibility that they were here all along, and will be present long after they are perceived.

I understand your logic. I just think that many of us are jaded by the simplistic and often dogmatic views espoused by modern Christians. They refuse to understand the physical world as much as the atheist/agnostic refuses to acknowledge the spiritual world.

Many agnostic and atheist physicists tirelessly search for the 'God Theory' that supposedly will reconcile the realms and explain why the laws that dictate large particle interactions (gravity etc) do not hold true in the quantum realm and visa versa. Although we can observe and measure both quantum and classical physical phenomena; we cannot reconcile the simultaneous existence of them both.

Enigmatic at the least. Demands further study with an open mind by all rational people.

In all seriousness, l would just like to witness a little empathy from time to time. A world without it kinda sucks.

Yeah lets have empathy for someone taking advantage of my money. Sorry but I can't... Fraud is a serious crime, and should not be taken lightly in any sense.

I'm pretty sure the OP paid into the system that he now would like to extract some value from. We all paid into it in case we need it. The OP is just asking for what HE already paid for. The only person taking YOUR money is the bureaucratic infrastructure to which we fund.

The OP is just an individual trying to extract the value that was provided by the tax revenue he paid for a benefit he now needs but never used. Just because you don't need it, but are forced to pay it; does not  mean Jim is taking your money. Fraud is avoiding paying what is owed, and taking that which is not deserved.

Under our current system, we are required to pay in and then leave the decision making to a largely inept system. We should at least agree that Jim is deserving based upon the information available; and the system is broken at its very core.

Can we find something on which to agree? Or am I just a bleeding heart liberal and you a cold hearted conservative? I don't believe either is true.

Hugs gweedo.

With this method I can trade using a Hourly based EMA. And by the way I’m also considering to use 2 EMA base or more in the trading system. Like checking on a 4-hour base to have the trend of the market and selling when the 1-hour  base EMA are crossing. Is it an admissible idea?^^ I suppose you’ll tell me to back test this method. I tried to do so but failed when I needed to use Ninjatrader :/ is any one able to supply me some help or documentation on back testing using ninja or any other tool?

I'm happy to hear that you are profitably trading.

Your idea of looking at the trading system across different timeframes (1-hour, 4-hour) is certainly valid.  It's a concept known as "multiple timeframe analysis".  It's based on the theory that the trend of any given timeframe will more than likely be influenced by a higher timeframe.  In trading jargon, the trend of the higher timeframe is known as the "primary trend".  So, the idea would be to only hold BTC on the 1-hour timeframe if the 4-hour timeframe says you should hold as well.  Or in trader speak: "Only trade with the primary trend".

I do suggest testing it and you can use Excel, Ninjatrader, or even test it by hand.  You can express all of the moving averages in a single time period to make testing easier.  For example, the 10 period moving average on the 4-hour chart is the similar to the 40 period moving average on the 1-hour chart.

The general steps in NinjaTrader
-Import the data you're trying to test - it has to be in this format: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/helpGuides/nt7/index.html?importing.htm
-Create the strategy using NinjaTrader's strategy builder (or code it yourself...strategy tester is pretty easy for most scripts...and NinjaTrader already has a moving average crossover pre-programmed)
-Backtest the strategy across the data you imported using the Strategy Analyzer

Goomboo; you never crease to amaze me both quality of your analysis and your willingness to give it away for free. You make some awesome contributions that you not at all obligated to share.  Thank you.

The clear and concise way you present time as it is relevant to trading is the best I've seen this concept described.

In what language do you write analytic code to test current theory and past performance?. Is it the same as your predictive models?

In the rawest of forms, I have found Python to serve these purposes well

Keep up the good work goomboo.

The dump surprised me a little -- although I should be used to them by now. Held, as usual, so no skin off my nose... but I do wonder as to what the dumper(s) were trying to achieve.

Volume was low as it was a long weekend, but the rest of the week looked potentially positive after the weekend's rally and with the sign of volume returning.

But all the dump is likely to do is remove the wind from the market. As we've found from the previous dumps, they no longer cause any long-term significant downward price movement following the dump.

This results in a stalemate, with bulls unwilling to buy from fear of seeing someone dump to manipulate, and bears unwilling to sell as they know the price won't go down.

So, what? Do we say hello to another 3 weeks of 0-volatility and 0-volume?

I really don't like the manipulators. They're basically crapping in their own playground.

People who use this to their advantage without having the capacity for market manipulation do pretty well with the means at their disposal. Probing dark orders and capitalizing on others' greed and deception pays big dividends in both the near and medium term. Long term realization will happen regardless.

Savvy traders recognize and play off others' tactics. All of us who trade are market manipulators in some sense. Responsible trading tends to stabilize an otherwise volatile market. Most market manipulators do so in order to stabilize the market while limiting loses and improving the potential for gain. Times of high volatility tend to be based in emotion rather than logical analysis.

The most solid play involves choosing an entry point at which the buyer is willing to buy and hold. Trading is for gamblers and short term speculation. Failure to understand this can be catastrophic and skews ones risk of ruin in a negative direction.

Value is fairly concrete inconsequential of others' motives.

Edit: my one hundredth post. I wish it was better, but I guess it'll do. Post 500 will be better

When the 'weak hands' sell they often buy back at a cheaper rate with more coins.

This is most definitely true. Perhaps not for all of them but this 'weak hand' does it often.

Until they get caught in a bear trap... Then they are empty hands.

I know a few people who were selling and buying back cheaper, and managed to make gains for a while. They were doing okay at first, but they got caught off guard when price made a major rally, and ended up buying back in at a loss. Now those guys are currently holding less coins than if they had just held...

Basically I think trading is great if you really know what you are doing and can completely detach yourself from your emotions. But I don't know anyone who can actually do this, so I tend to advise my friends to buy and hold...

There is so much inexperience prevalent in trading bitcoins that it is hard to make a mistake that cannot be corrected in the near term. I've made plenty and all were easily mitigated with fairly mindless corrective trades. Bitcoin is one of the few remaining forgiving markets.
