Re: What's the best answer to this question ? "What is its backing? "

this thread has gone in the right direction.  if someone asks what is "backing" a currency, they simply don't understand money.

Free To Choose 1980 series by Milton Friedman. He pretty much lays down the law on economics and the implications government policies. He dispels many commonly held myths, most of which are still prevalent today.

you are totally misreading friedman's point.  it was related to governmental monetary policy in the real world at the time.  in fact bitcoin is very much in line with his ideas about ideal monetary policy.

I don't see how anyone can read the OP and think KD has a case for keeping his money. Based on his owns words, I think he should be going to prison.  Compare what he did to what Martha Stewart did. Do we know where he lives? American DA's freakin' love to take on cases that will be big in the news.

what exactly did martha stewart do?  it sure as shit wasn't commit any actual crimes.

Kevin, after what Mt Gox did in the "their side" thread to try and CONNECT YOU with the hacker, I sure as hell hope you file that injunction.
I sure hope too, will make it easier for us.

wtf is this supposed to mean?  kevin has been nothing but up front about everything.   this response is gross as hell.

creating a totally offline "savings" wallet using linuxcoin...
by
radracer
on 16/06/2011, 18:59:11 UTC
i want to make sure this a valid method to create an offline savings wallet using linuxcoin

1) boot from linuxcoin iso cd on offline machine
2) run bitcoin client, note address
3) copy wallet.dat from /home/user/.bitcoin to usb media
4) shut down (at this point wallet.dat should be gone from RAM and now does not exist anywhere but my usb media)
5) whenever i wish to put coins in "savings" i send coins to address from 2)
6) if i wish to "withdraw" from savings in the future I copy the wallet.dat from my usb media to a computer running bitcoin, and once it has downloaded the block chain i can spend the coins.

i want to make sure i dont fuck anything up and lose my coins trying to secure them. so let me know if i have overlooked any steps or if anything i'm planning here is wrong...

just to clarify, no one has "hacked bitcoins" what happened was someone had their personal computer compromised, which allowed a hacker to transfer their bitcoins away.

if you look at the bottom of the post he claims "Also just FYI – He is AKA – NAKOMIS and NOAH etc etc on your ANONOPS IRC."  @Anonakomis is the twitter profile that has been taking responsibility for the theft and also claiming to have sent some of the coins to wikileaks, lulsec, etc.
