Thanks for replys guys. I changed the PCI-e, didn't make any difference. The new one woudn't work in the old spot in the MB. I put the new one in a different slot in the MB and it started working but very poorly, doing about 100 sols only out of 700 which is usual.  After that I put back the old PCI-e that I tought it was bad and it worked in a different slot in the MB.

It seems that one of the slots pci slots from the biostar tb250 died, very weird.

Now it's back and running in normal parameters with the old PCI-E!

One GPU vanished from device manager.

Hey guys. One of my rigs 4x 1080ti has been running just dandy for at least 4 months. All of a sudden one of the GPU's dissapeared from device manager.

What is the most common thing that dies in this situation. What should I replace first? Is it the card itself? How do I check if the card died ?

Thanks.

I agree with the view that we should not pay more than MSRP for the cards. One way to look at risk is called "value at risk". Taking the worst case scenario, how much money will you lose (example, crypto all crashing 80% tomorrow).

Those who went with 480/580 at $400 USD will find their cards worth $100. Even if their GPU can make $6 a day for 66 day ROI, their value at risk is 75% of their upfront cost.

Those who went with 1080ti at $700, but make $7 a day has a 100 day ROI. However if crypto crashes 80% tomorrow, their cards are worth $600 at least. That's only 14% of their upfront cost, value at risk is way lower.

If a person can put $10K value at risk. He can buy $71K worth of 1080tis, or he can buy $13.3K worth of 580s. For the same amount of money RISKED (not in upfront capital), he gets much much more hash.

After doing some calculation, including rig costs and estimating difficulty of resale, 1080ti are the best. 1070s has to $350 or less for me to consider. 1080tis do suffer a bit more in depreciation however.

Some of my 1080ti rigs Smiley

That's beaufiullll. What PSU are you using? I have two of these exact model and 6 1070 asus.

Re: 8 pin to dual 8 pin (6+2)

I have evga 1000G. This PSU comes stock with 2 cables that work for 1080ti. I tdp around 70% on 1080ti already tested. They stay around 170Wx4 = ~680w plus the rest goes up to around 800w from the wall. This fits in the 80% push for the PSU which I think it's healthy.

I would have gone with evga 1600w PSU but they are ridiculously out of stock and didn't want to wait. As soon as the bigger psu comes in stock I am ordering it and I'll make another 4 or 5x 1070s rig with the 1000w PSU.

So you mean you have a couple of 8+8 pin cables?

I do have extra 8 + 8 pin cables. I do. Am I being terrible noobish right now? Is there a "trick" that is right in front of my eyes but just don't see it ? If I plug it in with a second 8 pin cable and use the 6 pin at the end, windows won't see the GPU. It's in device manager with the yellow warning sign. As soon as I put the right cable (8 pin to dual 8 pin (6+2)), it is recognized.

I must give juice to 4x 1080ti. I only have 2 of those 8 pin to 8 + 8 (6+2) per PSU. I have another rig 6x 1070 on a corsair PSU.

The rig I want to place the 4 1080ti is a EVGA PSU... Somehow the companies hate each other and even though the cables are same family, they won't fit.

Now my question is, if I cut or use sandpaper to modifiy the shoes that won't go into the PSU, would that be a big nono ?

I tried to find cable to buy separately, they seem to sell them only in complete set, which is almost $100.

You want to blow some shit up?
By all means modify the psu cables.

There are lots of power supplies that can handle running 4 1080 ti's, buy one.

Don't buy the most expensive mining cards, only to cheap out on the power supply.

You must have gotten me wrong. I have two separate PSU. I only lack on enough cables for them. 1080ti needs the 8 pin to 8 + 6 pin cable.

They make adapters for that....to turn an 8 pin into an 8 + (6+2)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LVZBJML/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

look for 16 awg 18 awg is dangerous imo

This. And even then I'd be skeptical. 8-pins can deliver 150 watts (6 pin can do 75 watts) or 12.5 amps each so running twice that off of one cable is not a good idea.

There's a reason higher end PSUs give you more 8+6 ports and cables instead of simply giving you more 8+8 (or even 8+8+8+8) cables. I don't think I ever got a 8+8 pin cable with any PSU, only 8+6.

If you go down that route of splitting the 8-pin into 2, check the temperature of the cable all the way and get back to us, I'm curious.

What I do know for sure is that you should never interchange cables for different brand PSUs, they don't use the same standards even if the cables fit perfectly so you'll end up frying stuff.

Crashing problem

on 09/06/2017, 04:00:38 UTC
Currently running 6x 1070 tpd 80%, clock +200 and -502 mem.

Everything is stable in nicehash except when ethminer comes along. It takes forever to start, and after a few attempts it crashes, restarting the ethminer. In order to make it switch to other miner I have to manually close the window ~10 times or restart the rig.

This is the error I get with it.

BIOSTAR TB250-BTC

Hey guys, I don't seem t be able to figure this out. I tried biostar way http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/support/faq_content.php?S_ID=768.

I enabled mining mode in bios, I don't know what else to do. What am I doing wrong. I have the latest update installed and so forth. I can't make the 2 cards to work. Funny thing is that after a restart, the "failed" cards switch between themselves and it seems random.

I would really appreaciate your help.

Hey guys, I am having really hard time getting the amd rx580 8gb. I was bumped down on one website from 6 units to 2... then on another website righ after I placed the ~$1800 order the website crashed. They are all back ordered and so forth. I started considering 1080 GTX for ~500 a piece. I would like someone's more experienced opinion regarding this issue. Should I go for the nvidia or wait and do the AMD like everyone else.

Hey I have recently placed the order for my first rig. I am currently playing with Geth and so on, trying to figure out how to connect to the actual mining pool when I will choose one.

My question is, can someone show me a step by step tutorial that is not outdated?

Thank you.

I am still between these two. Same RX580 chipset

ASUS ->>>>   1380 MHz boost clock (OC Mode) for 7% performance improvement over reference

or XFX ->>>> With a 1430MHz clock speed to help meet the needs of demanding games.

that difference in MHz will have a noticeable effect?

New mining rig - config help

on 27/05/2017, 22:54:01 UTC
Hey guys, I am in the order process for the following:

MB: biostar TB250 - BTC
GPU: 6 x Asus AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5
Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin
PS: CORSAIR AXi Series AX1200i Digital 1200W
CPU: Not decided yet, waiting for some suggestions.
SSD: Not decided yet.

This is my first rig, I was always interested about mining but never had the cash for it. I would like to know what you guys think of this and I would appreciate any advice you may have.

Thank you.
