For the last couple days, I'm having random disconnection issues to all 3 servers.  I am using cgminer 2.10.5 and my Internet is still working fine when these short drops occur.  They usually only last a few seconds, but it is enough to cause cgminer to move to the next pool in the list.

Anyone else noticing this?

This then gives a smaller number of people bigger ammounts of power to act on the market.
Bitcoin is in an extreme situation where at the moment half the available bitcoin are in hands of a (on a global scale) small group of people.
I think that this will be a serious problem for bitcoin in the future, but others have disagreed. Smiley

I have seen similar threads on that subject.  I haven't completely decided yet, but I am finding myself agreeing more with those who say people will sell BTC as the value rises and it gains more popularity.  I don't think BTC was ever designed to do away with the rich vs. poor divide.  But, and this is what I like most about it, it takes the monetary power away from government with their printing presses.  And, without monetary power, government is mostly impotent.

The OP isn't about double spending.  But, the point was being made in this thread that BTC and the gold/silver paper markets are similar.  While it can be argued they are similar in that they are both small compared to the fiat market, and can thus be more easily manipulated, you can't just make BTC out of thin air.  Well, no more than 50BTC every 10 minutes or so by mining.

But, the point of the BTC system is someone can't give you a piece of paper to trade claiming ownership of an asset they already traded with someone else.  It is the lack of double spending in BTC that differentiates it from the "paper" market in gold/silver.

coblee, any updates to the client? I still get a crash every time I run the client after I reboot. If I reinstall, it runs fine.  Win 7 x64.

I'm a GPU miner with about 600MH/s on one machine under one worker.  I haven't seen my Diff go higher than 1 during this whole testing phase, so it doesn't appear to be affecting my variance at all.

Is the only way to get a Little BFL through the upgrade process or can they be ordered individually?
You can order Little Single without upgrade process - http://www.butterflylabs.com/pre-order-form-bitforce-little-single-sc/

Keep in mind I think they said they won't be shipping any "new order" little singles until the complete pre-order Jalepeno, Single and Mini-Rig backlog has been satisfied.  So, if you intend to pre-order a little single, it might take a bit longer to get to you than one of the other items.

You could also use your CPUs for Litecoin mining. Last I checked, LTC are still worth some BTC, so you would probably net more BTC by exchanging them for CPU mined LTC.

When just starting out in Bitcoin, and waiting for hardware to arrive, CPU mining has its merits. You learn about mining, start feeling out pools and feel like you are participating. Just don't expect to make a bunch of coins with it. But, taking those first steps, CPU mining will help.

It seems like every pool operator spends many hours tweaking code for their specific pool to keep things running reliably.

Yeah, good on BFL.  Customer service has definitely improved recently.  It will be fun to see what the haters have to say when we are receiving ASICs next month.

Do you guys who watch the market this closely use a lot of antacids? I would have ulcers if I kept up with movements of the market minute by minute!

I want as many coins as possible but I don't have a ton of fiat sitting around.  What I do have is a bunch of video cards, so they are happily hashing for me.  And, I used the coins they minted to order ASIC.  For me, it is mining or no coins, so I mine.

Re: [Poll] What have you doing with the coins you mined?
by

I'm in this for the long haul.  Holding all my coins except the ones I sent to BFL for ASIC.

I don't associate selling with not being for the long haul.

What if all miners will hold all the coins mined ? I believe that it will help the Bitcoin economy and Bitcoin adoption if a percentage of the coins mined are "released" into the market. Via exchanges to USD, via sales in BTC, via gifts, whatever.
That is a very legitimate point and I think you are correct that coins need to move around in order for there to be more wide-spread adoption.  If I see a service/product I find value, I'm not opposed to using coins to buy it.  But, I'm much more in a saving mode than spending, so it would have to be something very good to get me to use my coins right now or in the near future.

I think that is true.  With ASIC, power draw is much less a consideration when calculating profitability.  But, in hot climates, you also have to calculate cooling costs into the power equation too!
