Ok strangest one yet -
if my 13 x 1070 NVOC miner hard freezes for whatever reason - it causes a network storm and my entire network goes down until i hard reset the miner. Mobo is ASROCK BTC PRO H110 using on board intel gigabit ethernet.

is there ANYONE that has had this issue before and if so any idea how to fix?

Still cannot solve the issue.
I tried with nvOc 0018 and 0019.
To sum up:
I have MSI Z270 gaming plus (quite similar to MSI Z270-a PRO).
Previously 4 ZOTAC Mini 1060 6gb
Now added two EVGA 1060 6Gb
Celeron G3930

  • Was mining well with 4 Zotac on nvOc0018 and OC
  • I added two EVGA 1060 6Gb to the build, only 4 gpus detected always
  • I enabled above 4G memory, 6 gpus detected, starts mining and the OS hangs after 5 min always
  • I updated MB Bios and now it throws this error: https://imgur.com/a/QblT1 (No overclock)
  • I tried with nvOc 0019 and it restarts after 10 minutes

Okay, I've found the problem:
Two days ago I tried running the whole rig with a wired connection to the router (it was previously connected via tl-wn722n wireless adapter).
It worked, it runned for a day without issues.
So I moved the rig to a friends house, to test his wifi connection, and it also worked.

So, to sum up:
I enabled above 4g memory in my motherboard and connected two more gpus, that caused problems with my wifi connection, and finished in a constant OS hang.

Any ideas for whats going on here?

Very unusual problem. If your 6 GPU rig was working at friend's house wifi with the same wireless adapter but not at your house, I would update your router's firmware. I remember there was similar problem with some routers' negotiation/handskake that would cause computer to freeze. Besides updating your router also check if there is new firmware for the wireless adapter as well.

Do you have any more info on this issue you described with the OS freezing with some ethernet issue with negotiation? i believe i have the same issue.

Ok - so i've narrowed it down to a kworker process which is hogging all of a single core and causing the system to slow to a crawl and eventually freeze.
its alternating between kworker/3:7 or 3:10 or 3:6 or 3:9 or something similar.

does anyone know the best way to investigate what these kernel tasks are trying to do which is causing the system to slow so much?

screenshot of htop: https://ibb.co/g0FCOw

EDIT - this ONLY happens when i run 12+ GPU's this does not happen with 11 or less GPU's and i have changed risers/ swapped GPU's with no change.

Yes
My 13 card 1070 rig showed only use of 2.61gb of ram

I took a 4GB stick out and left it with 4GB ram and it’s running like a champ

But yeah this CPU core saturation issue is bad.

ah thanks will unplug the other 4gb next maintanance Smiley
so the core usage is high for unknown reasons ?

not sure.  i can't even edit mine in windows.

is SSH enabled? what's the default username/password?

m1/miner1 mate

I’m not sure why core usage is so high, I’m waiting on fullzero to respond Smiley

What mining client are you using?

I don't have access to the source code for the ewbf / zm / claymore clients:  if they are doing something wonky you need to ask the dev's themselves.

If there is some process other than a mining client utilizing the CPU intensively let me know.

I’m using claymore

Here is a picture of the htop screen showing core usage and process, any idea ?

Your link doesn't work.

I know that the Claymore client intermittently uses your CPU; but Claymore is closed source.

What CPU are you using; and for how many GPUs?

Apologies about the link - this one should work

Im using 13 GTX 1070s on a Asrock BTC Pro with a G4560 pentium CPU on NVOC 0019

I am also getting a general OS slow down when the miner kicks in;
I ran htop to check out usage. And something is chewing almost 100% of one of the cores and this is also when the system is laggy and slow and I believe is contributing the OS freezing.

Any ideas what process this is ?

EDIT: sometimes it’s on core 3, others it’s core 4 changes every reboot

Still on v0019 but im getting hard freezes randomly - sometimes it mines for 100hours straight then hard freeze, others it may only run for 4 hours and then a hard freeze.

is there somewhere i can look in ubuntu which may have some kind of log with errors or something?

Tried to use the "auto update" to get to 0019-1.1 and my machine failed to load, was stuck on black screen forever.
had to re-image back to 0019

Is there a way i can update the nvidia drivers on NVOC v0019?
I've downloaded the latest drivers 384.90 as of 21-9-2017 but im not 100% on how to upgrade the existing drivers.
if you have downloaded the .dpkg run this command

Code:
sudo dpkg -i Package_Name.dpkg

But its better to update from repo with :
Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install nvidia-384

Or fully update/upgrade system with:

Code:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Thanks for the response - my issue is that whenever i try to open a new terminal window to try run any command - it tries to launch the miner.

Can someone please tell me where the logs are stored for claymore miner ?

I have a GPU which is causing the miner to reset and I would like to see which GPU it is from the log
You should enable logging in 3main
find the claymore line in 3main and add L to arguments like this :

from
Code:
screen -dmS miner $HCD ...
to
Code:
screen -dmSL miner $HCD .....

then you get a screenlog.0

This will work; as will modifying the code block in 3main for the COIN you are mining to enable Claymore logs.

Thanks for this

I made the change in 3main and there is a screenlog.0 file that has appeared but when I try open it up I get an error "this file is of unknown type"
Right click on the file > properties > open with >  "gedit"
Set default.OK.
Double click screenlog.0

Legend
Thanks
After checking the log I can see I'm getting "illegal memory access" on all GPUs then GPU failed restart miner.
Then claymore resets and it occurs again after 1-2hours
Settings haven't changed from before and previously  it was stable for 4 days prior.
I have reduced the memory clock a little for now and will see what happens.
Any ideas ?

Happy to report -

Once i got rid of that shitty celeron processor and upgraded to the pentium G4560 - all issues went away immediately.
NVOC - greatest mining OS ever.

Ok - so my rig stops applying fan % correctly once i get to more than 11 cards.
once i connect the 12th and/ or 13th card to the ASROCK pro btc board - it wont apply the fan % to all the card / regulate auto temp at all. and the computer becomes almost un-usable due to how slow the UI is.

any idea whats up?
running 8GB DDR4 ram
128gb SSD
Celeron G3930 processor

Ok - found an issue.

I've tried setting "manual fan speed"
and played around with the maximus auto fan control - but some of my cards just dont want to run the fan speed i set in 1Bash.

When i was running off 1PSU with 8 cards it ran perfectly.

I just added a second PSU to my ASROCK BTC PRO board to run 13 cards and 4/ 13 of the cards wont adjust their fan speed correctly.

EDIT: With every restart its getting less and less stable - fan speeds are NOT changing on majority of cards now.
