If Namecoin were listed on binance, it would go to $1000.

I asked Grok, and this is what he said:
Quote
Given the additional information you've provided, let's reason through this step by step:

Step 1: Understanding Hashrate in Context of Merged Mining

Merged Mining: Namecoin uses merged mining with Bitcoin, meaning miners can mine both Namecoin and Bitcoin simultaneously. This process allows Namecoin to leverage the computational power (hashrate) of the Bitcoin network.
Hashrate Comparison: You've mentioned that Namecoin's hashrate is half of Bitcoin's due to merged mining. This is significant because:
Security: A hashrate that's half of Bitcoin's still provides substantial security since Bitcoin's network is one of the most secure due to its high hashrate. Therefore, Namecoin benefits from this shared security, reducing the risk of 51% attacks.
Mining Incentive: Miners are incentivized to mine both coins because they can earn rewards from both, which indirectly supports Namecoin's network security by tying it to Bitcoin's.

Step 2: Analyzing the Challenge of Lack of Exchanges

Exchange Availability: You've highlighted that the real challenge for Namecoin is the lack of exchanges offering trading. This is crucial because:
Liquidity: Fewer exchanges mean less liquidity. Liquidity is vital for any asset as it affects how easily one can buy or sell Namecoin without significantly impacting its price.
Visibility and Accessibility: Being listed on fewer exchanges reduces Namecoin's visibility to potential investors and traders, limiting its market reach and accessibility.
Price Discovery: With limited trading venues, the price discovery process might be less efficient, potentially leading to price volatility or undervaluation due to less market activity.

Step 3: Impact on Namecoin's Value and Adoption

Market Cap and Price: The lack of exchange availability directly impacts Namecoin's market cap and price. With fewer places to trade, the demand might be suppressed, keeping the price lower than it might be with broader exchange support.
Adoption: For broader adoption, especially in the context of decentralized naming systems or other use cases Namecoin aims to support, having more trading options would be beneficial. It would make it easier for developers, users, and investors to acquire Namecoin, fostering growth in its ecosystem.

Step 4: Conclusion
Given these points:

Hashrate: The fact that Namecoin's hashrate is half of Bitcoin's due to merged mining provides a robust security framework, which is positive for Namecoin's credibility and safety. However, this technical aspect alone isn't enough to drive value if market dynamics are not favorable.
Lack of Exchanges: This is indeed a significant challenge. The limited number of exchanges reduces Namecoin's market presence, liquidity, and potential for growth. It's a critical barrier to increasing its adoption and market value.
Strategy for Improvement: To address this, Namecoin would benefit from:
Increasing Exchange Listings: More listings on reputable exchanges would enhance visibility, liquidity, and accessibility.
Community and Marketing Efforts: Efforts to promote Namecoin's unique features and use cases could attract developers and users, potentially leading to increased demand.
Did I Know This?: Yes, with the information provided, I now understand that the primary challenge for Namecoin's growth and valuation isn't its technical security or mining efficiency due to merged mining, but rather the lack of trading options on exchanges, which significantly impacts its market dynamics.

This analysis underscores the importance of market infrastructure like exchange listings in the valuation and adoption of cryptocurrencies, beyond just their technical attributes.

Step 3: Applying the Binance Effect to Namecoin
Given Namecoin's current price of $1, let's apply the average percentage increase from the Binance Effect:

    Current Price of Namecoin: $1
    Expected Increase: +41%

Need more developer for the Namecoin.
We are currently relying on a small number of developers..
Yes, after 10 years we are in the same place, bar a few upgrades to the latest bitcoin codebase.
but most importantly, we need side-projects and exchange listings.

IDK but is so hard for Bio or Domob to just apply on several exchanges and come back here and say "exchange x asked for x money and exchange Y, Z. and post a donating address for each on the website. or even here ?

i think Bio is taking it too far by requesting small changes to the website be done thru github.
Because any non-programmer will probably put off by that. it's too dificult.

He could at least put several polls about the direction of the coin.
And more exchange listings is a no-brainer.!

Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated

Hi all.  I was involved with the Devtome writing for DVC thingy about 10 years ago.
I just found my old wallet.dat file and am trying to sync any DVC I have earned since I last looked.

Is there still a way to exchange DVC to BTC?
I can't really remember what I did last time to do this.
I seem to remember converting it to another currency first, then to BTC maybe via 2 different sites/services?

Any help would be appreciated
i search and i found davicoin and dragon vein and even divinecoin stole the ticker DVC. so its worring that not even coinmarketcap or coingecko remember these coin.
last time i saw it was at vircurex, that folded very long time ago. and freeiexchange.
from waht i see there are scam tokens on eth etc that are listed and trading /facepalm.
source code on github should be ok.

I've been here since 2013. i am not a programmer, but worked in IT.
i wish i could help. from what i see this is the problem. Bio has been managing the community,
but there has been no leadership, no action, or too slow.
And most of us here can't program. We can only give some feedback

is there any kind of roadmap?

i don't see even the 10 month renewal period bug changed. it should be a year...
let alone more advanced features.
i suggest integrate privacy features, maybe optional,
just copy the code of other coins...
that will spark use of NMC and attract attention.

How is this old-school coin doing? Namecoin from the days when Elon Musk didn't know bitcoin existed and was a normal person)

the status is that no one here has bothered to apply for listing in any exchange since ancient times.
Just getting into (any exchange) would be huge, but seems that nowadays any exchange is demanding that the "official" developers apply, (and pay) something they are not doing it.

the status is that this is coin has been the grandmother of the pump and dump and it have leave more people reeling with loses than we can count. most "investors" have been burned because of the "no marketing" policy.

the status is that the actual users of the coin don't care about the price because hey, cheap domains, but this people were mostly Assange and some domainsquatter guy. (so we got 2 users and one is in jail...)

the status is that this could be one of the greatest coins but have fallen behind because it's just following bitcoin, only some hackers (the owner of btc-e and wex) have (had) big stash of the coin and doesn't seem innovative, because they didn't bother to fund any development.

but time will tell. and one of this days i'm gonna drop a couple btcs and we will 10x but first we gotta get into the big exchanges or at least the no KYC ones like bitget.

because without being able to use a coin to move funds between exchanges there is really no use case for it. even doge can be used for that.!

Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services)
by

Not sure I see any constructive feedback.

From what i can gather on the russian subforum, things are still the same crypto-funds are locked by the red-admin until things clear up with the site, i am unsure as to who is running the site. but there seems to be a inflation of wex tokens, someone hacked some account of someone, maybe partner site, and issue a bunch of wex tokens back then.

Now while the exchange could fix this or not is unknow but for sure some guy "penek", from novacoin, ex mod and programmer on the site has now reset the passwords of several bitcointalk accounts, thus leaving users in the dark and spreading FUD, telling everyone with their bots that "it is the end". he probably used that to pump and dump coins and now to send users fleeing to other exchanges. maybe he even owns one in Russia. who knows.

I only check that NMC withdraws work and according to the blockchain Wex wallet still has some.
Now, we don't know who is in charge of the site and if they want to scam or just launder the other funds or what other shenanigans have urged the admin to stop "main" coins withdrawals and only allow privacy coins to continue.

Thank you but this one just like the others out there says "not suitable for mining". I just want to dual mine it with Antpool. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's just a disclaimer because the wallet is in "beta". However there's another, older, wallet in the same page that is for miners, Namecoin Core Client (Stable Release), should be roughtly the same but without the name-tab.

Hi Folks,

I am keen on merged mining with Antpool for namecoin. However, I am unable to find a wallet which supports Namecoin. It seems like a lot of the folks on this thread are supporting Namecoin so I wanted to see if someone can point me in the right direction. Can someone please take couple mins to explain 2 things?

1) Where can I get a Namecoin wallet without tooooo much hassle?
2) How do I enable merged mining with Antpool?

Thank you very much.

1) https://namecoin.org/download/

2) You need a pool that enables merged mining. Some mine NMC and sell them automatically and gives you mili-btc. They do not give you NMC. You have to buy them.

Isn't Xapo already a Bitcoin Bank? I've heard they will protect your coins in some cold storage computers shielded inside an underground bunker with security cameras and armed guards, sounds pretty cool.

blockchain.info does something similar as well iirc, i remember reading on their site that they store the online wallets on secure servers with a dedicated security guard and all that, but that doesn't exactly constitute a "bank" either. one of the selling point of bitcoin is that you can "be your own bank," but the idea of letting a central organization holding your bitcoin and investing it, while giving you interest like a fiat money bank, seems both interesting while it goes against the idea of decentralization.

No, blockchain.info stores your bitcoin encryted, your password is used to decrypt them, that's why they can't be robbed but YOU can if you use a weak password.

Cex's actually rents the GH/s from some chinese miner, they pay a electricity fee and charge you a maintenance fee, that's why they shut down cloud mining. It's not profitable at this price levels, now you can see their miners are mining on chinese pools, they presumably have lower electricity costs. You will not be able to cloud-mine on cex.io until btc>350, you can continue mining with your own hardware on ghash.io thought.

I'm sure between the hack last year and now egopay scamming they didn't even want to renew the SSL certificate.

they should have just come forward, take a loss on balances or just explain that they are selling the site to recoup losses. Anyway, let's hope this is for real and someone bought the site, keep the balances and if there¡s any shortcoming just take a cut in the balances instead of operating a fractional reserve. that was the downfall of gox.

i mostly agree with Spoetnik , if you are an investor stick to the 1# and #2 coins, and what you think is long term.

Most of the alt-functionality could be implemented in them later. If you are a speculator, and do not mine or code it's not really worth the risk. Everyone has made some gains and loses speculating but this is dangerous with most of the 2014 coins.

it's very nice, people using vircurex should move here, but no volume...

i think you should consider adding more funding options, i think many people will be interested in buying their favorite alt coin with euros, dollar or other currencies.

just an idea, try partner with a payment processor or open bank accounts in a country not served yet by exchanges!
i'm sure some people want to open a bitcoin atm but don't have any exchange in their country. (i'm talking india and the like )
