You can buy from most websites with TheBigCoin.io. Used it for web hosting because I don't have paypal and it works without problems. You can also order physical products with TheBigCoin.

Re: I have been hacked... what now?
by

Sorry to hear.

If your crypto is stolen you cant get it back, unless you locate the hacker and persuade him to return it. Thats why it is so important to control and protect your private keys.

In the future it is better to use Linux or Mac instead of Windows (less chance of viruses). If you really want to use Windows, get a new harddrive and reinstall fresh. Store your passwords in encrypted text files or better memorize them. Dont use autofill feature of your browser or store passwords in unencrypted text files/documents. Research software before you install it and use a trusted antivirus software (not needed for Linux but necessary for Windows).

Ledger should have been safe but it sounds like you had a remote access virus. If you continue to use Windows for daily tasks, make a read-only Linux USB to send crypto with your Ledger. This will give you a safe environment to make and broadcast transactions. You could also keep your private keys completely offline and only connect to internet to broadcast signed transactions but 1) ledger should be enough 2) if you already have a virus, even this doesnt help.

Possibly you could report the paypal and bank transfers as unauthorized but I am not a lawyer.

Edit: Read that there could be compromised fake/used Ledgers. In this case, get a new Ledger direct from the company website (https://www.ledger.com/products/ledger-nano-s).

Right now I only have Monero (XMR).

I use bitcoin as a currency, earn bitcoin and run BTC full node now. Nothing against bitcoin. I just only have monero right now.

Re: I want to airdrop satoshis, can you tell me where and best way please?

It would be easier to automate this with a blockchain API + small hot wallet.

Process would be: User inputs their bitcoin address (=username) then number of videos watched, sats earned, and withdrawals are saved in database.

You can set a minimum withdrawal of e.g. 10k sats due to bitcoin fees or integrate lightning network (but I think at this time you will need to run a fullnode on your server, as it seems like light nodes are only available as apps) and send 20 sats instantly.

I dont know if you will earn money from this but faucets are popular and I would rather watch an ad than retry google captcha 3 times because they reject my solutions because I use tor.

Ask For Bitcoin works and is trustworthy (worked on a project + hired someone without problems). Its a nice crypto freelancing/microtask website with lightning network support and escrow, similar to XBTFreelancer (or Fiverr if it would accept BTC). Admin is helpful and fast responses. If you want to earn BTC or find someone to help you with a task, try it out.

Export your private keys, AES encrypt them with a secure passphrase (use base64 or ascii armor encoding so that you can write it down), save in text file on your computer + in usb/phone/safe cloud storage/email attachment and print out the encrypted string and keep in wallet/drawer/safe.

You can AES encrypt text files with GPG: https://steemit.com/privacy/@retprogramisto/how-to-use-symmetric-password-encryption-with-gpg

Dont save your private keys anywhere unless they are encrypted.

If you have a large amount its better to store it in multiple addresses so that if one private key is compromised the others could be safe.

You could also use hardware wallet such as Trezor or Ledger, but still backup your encrypted private keys somewhere else in case the hardware breaks or you lose it or it is stolen.

Brain wallet is insecure, dont use it.

Re: Can someone help me hiding my name behind a domain

Buy with crypto from a registrar that offers Whois Guard e.g. NameSilo or Namecheap or just enter pseudonym and virtual address. Domain registrars dont ask for government ID.

I got the hosting and the domain with my persona paypal.
Its news website, not any illigal thing. Just the freedom of speech is very limited in my country.
This is what crypto (especially monero) and tor are for. You can transfer the domain e.g. to Namecheap and buy Whois Guard but with court order the registrar will probably disclose your infos. If there is a real risk, consider the hosting and domain to be burned and buy different hosting and domain from a different company with bitcoin or monero (either use pseudonym + virtual address or use host like OrangeWebsite which only requires email address).

by

If it was a virus consider to use linux instead of windows. It is very unlikely to get a virus with linux.

Never give your private keys to anyone and if you use a web wallet, bookmark the legit website and check the URL and SSL certificate before you login to avoid phishing.

It is better keep your keys offline (in password encrypted text file with secure backups) and sign all transactions offline. Here is a guide from myetherwallet about how to make offline transactions: https://kb.myetherwallet.com/offline/making-offline-transaction-on-myetherwallet.html

Use https://coinb.in to generate addresses and transactions. Save your private keys in a password encrypted text file and make secure backups. You can download the coinbin source and run it offline for more security (to generate addresses and sign transactions). You only need internet connection to get inputs and broadcast transactions.

Re: Best use case of blockchain so far?
by

on 22/11/2018, 00:39:01 UTC
Due to the unstable exchange rate, bitcoin is risky as a storage method (to store money cash or even gold is more predictable) but bitcoin still works as an accessible, quick, low-fee, international, pseudonymous and safe method to send and receive money (and buy/sell products and services) without banks or government ID. Bank transfers, PayPal, Western Union or cash in mail cant offer what bitcoin offers. If you convert your bitcoin to fiat (=cash) for daily living costs, you will be fine. If you want to speculate/invest/hodl and dont invest more than you are prepared to lose, you will also be fine. Bitcoin isnt dead (and will never die as long as people run full nodes and miners) and still 100% works as a currency.

I remember when bitcoin traded at $250, then $500, 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k and 18k ATH. I understand that it can be dangerous to lose money due to course changes. I exchanged some of my BTC to cash for security and because I cant afford to lose more. If you feel anxious about the drop, do what is best for your situation, if that means hodling or exchanging some of your bitcoin to fiat. But even $4000 isnt bad in the bigger picture and definitely doesnt mean that bitcoin is dead, as a currency or as investment.

It is better to encrypt your keys or seed with a password. Encoding can be reversed (and should never be used "for security purposes" because it is not related to security), encryption can only be reversed if you know the password (or you crack the password but with secure passwords longer than 20 chars this isnt a problem yet). You can use gpg --symmetric --cipher-algo AES256 or openssl to aes encrypt your keys/seed with a password then encode the encrypted string to hex/base64/etc. Encryption will make the string longer but also means that no one can steal your coins if you lose your paper wallet and someone reverse engineers your encoding.

Another idea is to print your encrypted seed/keys on credit card size paper, laminate it and store copies securely in different places.

Edit: Your screenshots show google docs and windows. For anything that requires security please use linux, e.g. tails USB and avoid google services.

Re: To anyone new and wants to know about crypto and privacy

Very good article. It is true that you shouldnt need government ID/KYC to be able to participate in crypto and buy/sell/trade cryptocurrencies. Crypto with forced KYC is no different than a bank.

If you already bought crypto with KYC (instead of p2p trade (2), local meetup, bitcoin ATM) you can still anonymize it and protect yourself with Monero (XMR). Unlike bitcoin, monero has obfuscated blockchain and you cant see from the blockchain who sent how much monero to who. You can find more infos about monero and download the wallet here and buy monero from following exchanges.
