I decided to take this on and their reports are such a mess it only makes me happier I decided to stop using them. I can't help but think as I look at this mess that it's not that poorly designed by accident.

The problem is, the Feds love love love to do social engineering via the tax code. Give the masses and incentive to do this, and a disincentive to do that. We all know they are going to tax it, just as we know they are going to regulate it (it there anything they just let be? no) I think the worst thing that can happen is we let them pass tax policies that work against it, say for example moving it around from wallet to wallet as I said in my example above.

I will be starting a thread challenging the IRS to declare what I owe them in bitcoin capital gains. I want to prove to everyone that they don't have a clue.

Really? I think anyone that's familiar with including gains/losses on their tax return would find it pretty easy; and for anyone thats never done capital gains/losses would find it about the same difficulty as manually entering your 1099-D. I had to enter values from a 1-K from an LLC this year, now that was rough.
If you haven't kept records or have 1000's of trades and never looked at how much you've gained/lost then it might be cumbersome.

I haven't looked over the specifics of mining and how that applies though.
Have you asked anyone for help?

I think there are a ton of unanswered question with this ruling. For example, what if I buy one BTC at Coinbase this month for $500, move the coins to a wallet next month when they are worth $600, and finally move them back coinbase next year to sell them, when would I pay tax on them? To follow the blockchain as some people suggest, I'd be paying the tax every time I moved them. But that is crazy. If I buy a $5,000 Soyer painting, and I find out it's now worth 10k, I don't pay a tax on that gain because I moved it to a more secure room.

This is the 3rd or 4 version and they have been flawless for me, but I just tried the latest update on two of my machines and it failed on both. It seems to be related to the API, which I see the previous couple of posts are about, but not in reference to it failing. If it matters, both of my machines are on window7-64bit with the latest version of cgminer. I tried several different things, such as doing it from a fresh start, with both a new copy of cg miner and not importing any of the watcher config (except for the config file for cgminer) I tried some other things too, but I'm a little lost when it comes to configuring API setting. Just before sending this here, I ran the debug and giot the message "no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1"

I've been trying tonight to use the password recovery and afterwards it shows my email on the page, saying it will send me the recovery instructions, but nothing ever comes. I tried is a few times over the past couple of hours and still nothing. And yes, I checked all the obvious things such as the email that is shows being the right email or if it went to spam and whatnot.

Re: Alt-Coins

Hi everyone,

I am quite n00bish to this whole scene (i.e. bitcoin and alt-coins), but it has been one of my biggest hobbies for the past few months, and I'd like to quickly say "Thanks" to this forum, which has helped me tremendously with the learning curve.

I finally made an account, and I would like to ask a few questions:

  1)  Which alt-coin currently has a high SHORT TERM value (over 6 months from now) and why?

  2)  Conversely, which alt-coin has a high LONG TERM value (over 1 year from now) and why?

  3)  How can I use guiminer-scrypt for P2P mining? Am I just dumb..?

Thank you all in advance!

EDIT:

Also, does anyone have any ideas as to why Bitcoin's value is down to $ 65 USD Huh

When you figure that out you'll probably be able to tell me why gold is down to $1200 ounce. None it makes that much sense except for the swings between fear, uncertainty and moments of greed. Ask people who have been around for a while how many of them say they believe BTC will one day be worth in several hundred and I suspect most will say they do, but how many of them are selling out of fear now?

Don´t mine anything with NVIDIA cards !!! They´re very power inefficient !!!

The Best cards to mine Litecoins are 7950, then 7970 and 7990.

Good Luck.

the 7950 are definitely better than the 7970 and cost about 25% less

Can I post about the last time I took bitcoins instead? I started to accept them at our restaurant, but unfortunately (unrelated to bitcoin) we just closed our place. I will miss it and like being one of the first restaurants taking them. Oh well, life goes on.
