The concept around this is not to look at it as spamming but rather an open source news delivery system in a traditional paper form Smiley

I imagine 0.0% of people receiving the faxes will look at it that way. To me, spamming will only sway people negatively rather than convincing anybody that Bitcoin is legitimate. The only people who will view it otherwise are people who already believe in Bitcoin. In my opinion, anyway.

Re: Criticize my tamper-proof paper wallet design... and steal 0.1 BTC if you can.

I believe this is why the textual private keys aren't lined up so any damage will damage different parts of the key. See http://i.imgur.com/4Pmh5lp.jpg ( grr, had the wrong link here before I decided to remove the half letters to simulate more damage ) -- [ printed wallet, cut the flap in half, and removed any half letters ( simulating a pretty huge space of damaged textual key -- and honestly, I really doubt damages from a fold will damage exactly one letter ) ] -- QR code removed because I'm feeling silly and have 0.05BTC sitting on that address if anyone can recover the private key.

I'm re-reading this and now I'm undecided. I first thought it was a bounty. Is it?

Well, it *was*: https://blockchain.info/address/15mNseGxoTxq3yWeR6utULoeQdWuJYSgNy

Okay. That was me. I just wanted to make sure I was actually allowed to steal it. But I guess I'm derailing this thread a bit. Sorry.

Would you like to know how I would fix the problem?

I would. Please proceed...
Therefore, impairment testing, such as the "road sobriety test" and various other more high-tech means, would likely replace the breathalyser or blood tests as measures of impairment.

But is this possible/feasible? Is there really a way to measure sleepiness or distractedness or whatever else? If there is, your idea I think is something I would agree with.

I'ven't ever heard a plan like this, but it is indeed quite intriguing, particularly the last paragraph.

The calibration didn't align the front and back 100%. I used Zoom: 3, Shift: 7 if that helps anybody else.

With any combination of zoom/shift settings, did you manage to get the calibration page to print out perfectly *centered* (horizontally centered, that is?) That's the factor that influences how accurately the front/back line up. For zoom 3 / shift 7, what browser / OS were you using?

Chrome / Windows 8.

So far I've had the best success with Safari, pretty good with Firefox & IE, possibly some problems with Chrome.

I'll see if I can try another browser soon.

Not yet. I'll think about that some, like a "master zoom" function. However the resulting wallets wouldn't size properly for the tamper-evident tape I sourced -- so you'd be obligated to use regular tape.

It was just a thought. It may not be doable. It's awesome as is Smiley Since carrying it around in your wallet sort of defeats the purpose, my thought is probably bad, but maybe a function then to print a "public" bill that has only the public key and doesn't fold... that way you can carry it around without worrying that your funds will be stolen, even if your (physical in real life) wallet is. Both (the "secret" bill and "public" bill) would be able to print on one sheet of paper.

Anyway, just spitballing. I think it's really cool already. Cheers!

Very cool! Works well.

The calibration didn't align the front and back 100%, but it probably has to do with the printer rather than the design. I just had to cut the edge a little closer. All this did was uncenter the Bitcoin symbol over the private key, although it was entirely visible. I used Zoom: 3, Shift: 7 if that helps anybody else.

Any chance there will be an option to specify the size? Would that mess up the Zoom/Shift settings? I think it would be cool to have it the same size as paper currency, but I suppose paper currency has different sizes throughout the world.

Great stuff Smiley

I kinda like MtGox. It's way more open and cheaper and less bureaucratic than conventional stock exchanges.

Who's that in your avatar?

That is Destiny Armstead.

For some thread relevance... I have vowed to stop using Mt. Gox (barely used them anyway) and instead move to CampBX. I have not used them yet, but I probably will sometime this week.

I wonder what QR code generator you use, because I didn't think it was possible to get QR codes to misread

Hmm, I hope this is just a blurring/resolution issue from taking a screenshot and then shrinking the size and applying JPG. I'm using the same code and QR generator as bitaddress.org -- the only fundamental difference is the web interface, CSS/HTML and the background art.

For what it's worth, I was able to instantly scan all of the codes from this page without issue.

I wonder if the lower resolution coupled with a lower quality scanner was the problem...? I used a Galaxy S3, but I have no idea how that camera compares to anything else.

Over/Under now listed for the LAC/POR NBA game tonight.  Any other special requests to be listed?

This was my request. I exchanged a few e-mails before placing the bet. The responses were quick and seemed to be honest, but of course that's not much to go on.

I lost by about a billion points (had the over lol), so unfortunately I cannot say anything about the payouts.

I guess we'll know in the coming hours whether something went wrong or if it was a scam all along. As a betting man, I know where I'm placing my money...  Undecided

Re: [ANN] Free Bitcoin Vanity Address Generation Website. 75% PRICE DROP!!!
by

I should probably report that nibor squared everything away shortly after his last post above. I received the addresses and did not have to pay again.

And then immediately after, the price dropped to where what I paid for 2 addresses could now get me 25 lol. I decided to do one more just for the heck of it. Payment was accepted automatically and quickly and I received the address quickly as well. It appears everything has been fixed.

With the new pricing, it's a good service if you don't want to generate your own and/or have the computational ability to do so very quickly.

Somehow Mr. CryptoCurrent was able to deal with me, which is no easy feat. Super friendly, communicative, and of course most importantly provided a timely service exactly as promised. As you might deduce from my username, I had been looking for an alternative to my former go-to service. I've found it. Very happy all around.

Conflicting reports here.   Some are saying there are Bitinstant BTC-e reserves, some say there are none.    Another guy said it's clearly visible on some page.... where is that?

https://www.btc-e.com/

It's listed at the bottom of the far right column. It currently says 146 USD.

Many people want bitcoin to flourish but I can tell you that it never will as long as things like this keep happening and you have no recourse to retrieve your funds.

Well, this is a problem with BitInstant, not Bitcoin itself. There are many other payment processors. BitInstant was, until now, just the most convenient for many. In the past, I've had nothing but positive experiences, but this is enough that I will never use them again.

Does anybody know a bitinstant alternative for the United States? I HAVE to have my bitcoins now and I can no longer bullshit with bitinstant.

There seem to be a few alternatives where you can deposit cash at a bank, but unfortunately despite being huge national banks, they do not have branches anywhere near me (which is why I've always used BitInstant).

Anyway, despite my dissatisfaction with BitInstant right now, this is their support thread and I think we should respect that. There is a wealth of knowledge on these forums. I'm sure you'll be able to find other threads that can answer your question in more detail.

BitStamp seems to be gone as an option now too. I was considering trying BTC-e and then BitStamp but they disappear before I get the chance. It's probably good that they're not an option if the orders can't be fulfilled. I'm really disappointed with all this, but I still don't really have a reasonable alternative. I hope it gets worked out soon, but it seems like it's just getting messier  Sad

The problem so far is BitInstant BTC-e reserves are non-existent. They've not been replenished for a long time now. So until you see some serious "Reserves" amounts listed at https://btc-e.com/ (reserves are at $33 USD right now), I think BitInstant has to perform "manual" transfers which don't involve the reserves, but some other account that has bitcoins or USD (how much that account has I don't know).

Speaking of which, I just noticed that BTC-e is no longer listed as a deposit method. I don't know if this is old news or how long it's been removed.
