Re: Why are you going back to MtGox?

Yes, Gox's lack of communication is about as unacceptable as it gets but with the TH market remaining stable to a degree throughout, and Gox users being given large trade discounts, I do not see why anybody who has taken the risk all this time at Gox is going to sell out now. Even if they leave Gox and go to another market out of principle, they will still be trading.
As pointed out in this post by another, they've added additional security measures, caused more volume on TH which is big because now you can get a trade executed unlike before which was my major concern due to such a small volume of trading, along with other benefits like a 2nd viable market to use.
Some one else pointed out that the traders at Gox will sit and wait to see who does what and then after a while if TH remains stable may decide to use similar values as a starting point.

We see more volatility over media coverage but even that is not causing too much change.

Just common sense although that may have absolutely no place in the BTC arena.

This is incredibly painful for me to watch.

Just imagine for a second that you were a brilliant mathematician, you eat, shit and sleep math.

One day you see a big gathering, and someone has been chosen at random to answer a math question, and they will win untold fame and fortune.
The question is fun, if a little simple, but you have to squirm as you watch this nincompoop fumble around and fuck it up.

Guys like me who love servers, server architecture and scalability arguments, dream of days like this.

We love to overengineer even when it is not necessary (we try not to).

this is a no brainer, a quality problem.
If i knew that on date x, time y, that i was going to have n users hitting my server all at once, this would be an easy task.

It would be fun, it would go smoothly, I would have a plan.

I can only think the guys at MtGox are either grossly incompetent or incredibly greedy (they still have all this stuffed on to some box under their desk).4

The problem I see is increasing their last mile connection speed to their ISP as this cannot be done quickly. Here is the states it takes 2 to 6 weeks and you are at the mercy of the provider. All the equipment processing speed is useless without this upgrade.

Torturous...

Unless someone can tell me different, what other exchange can handle the volume gox does and be as secure at they should be after their recent changes. Trade Hill has expanded it's security requiring a human verification field but how secure is that alone?

I am crazy, but I transferred in 2k to test Dwolla.  It worked Smiley

I assume you had the funds in Dwolla already so how long did it take to show up in the Gox acct?

I plan to keep my dollars and BTC's on the market site for now until I feel more secure with how to handle the BTC"s on my own.  In light of the recent events with the one major exchange I am waiting for OnlyOneTV to broadcasts that segment on securing ones wallet they have been talking about doing.

First I want to make sure my USD $'s are available in my account then I plan to keep a close eye out for the first couple hours of trading to see how things are trending. I would only assume since a price is set on other markets that things will not change much besides people moving some money to another exchange.

if Kevin wasn't such a bright guy I don't think there would be as much concern about his story being accurate.

Bitcoin Currency Payment Problems from Various Markets
by
rjs
on 16/06/2011, 00:24:01 UTC
Can others post their experiences when requesting a chosen currency be sent to them after buying and selling bitcoins from some of the available Markets?
I am curious to see if there has been any difficulty in this part of the transaction ever, and if so from who.

The specific questions is when someone asks to have their money returned to them from an exchange are they getting it.  What is to stop an exchange from not paying you other than potentially risking loss of users and business? With the volume MT GOX does it could be quite profitable to just close up shop and walk away with the Cash and Bitcoins. I don't see what could stop this from happening with the cash scenario, although I am not sure what is digitally possibly regarding the bitcoins siince they are the ones making the trades between two parties. I guess this question has to do with the mechanics of how the coins are being traded on their end.
