Someone told me this about two different exchanges,

Yes, technically you could buy from New Liberty Standard before and during July 2010, but it wasn’t a true open market like we think of today. It was small scale, fixed rate trades directly with the operator, not an exchange with active order books. That’s why most people still point to BitcoinMarket.com as the start of real market pricing and broader liquidity.

What would be the difference between directly with the operator and not an exchange with active order books?

If bitcoin didnt have market value before July 2010, what does this mean? How could people buy it if it didnt have any market value then other than p2p, otc, and mining?

Would it be fair to say mt gox was the first exchange selling at a fixed rate in late july 2010?  What about new liberty standard?

What do you mean "real"?  Did new liberty standard ever sell like today but in 2010 or early 2011?

So p2p, otc, and mining were the only options before july 2010?  Could people start to buy btc like today in early august 2010?

Would it be fair to assume that it wasnt until july 30, 2010 that people could start buying bitcoin on any exchange and not only new liberty standard?  July 30 is the earliest date i can get on this calculator website...

Someone told me this, "Before July 2010 you could have bought tens of thousands of BTC for $1,200. Early on New Liberty Standard had absurdly low rates (e.g., October 2009 was about $0.000764 per BTC, and by early 2010 it was roughly $0.00547/BTC), and even by mid-2010 Bitcoin was still under $0.10. So depending on the exact date, $1,200 would’ve gotten you on the order of 12,000 to 24,000+ BTC (e.g., at $0.10 ≈12,000 BTC; at $0.05 ≈24,000 BTC)."  Did they get it wrong somehow?  Wouldnt 1000 usd worth of bitcoin in march of 2010 fetch like 333,333 bitcoins instead of this wimpy number?

Towards the end of 2010 that one could buy this amount?  But why do many others say otherwise?
