Re: CoinTracking - Profit/Loss Portfolio and Tax Reporting for Digital Currencies
by

on 25/03/2018, 22:41:42 UTC
I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate my mining income with cointracking, if someone could help me out.

I can make a tax report which calculates gains and losses.  But my mining transactions that I've imported into cointracking are not calculated with that, since I haven't sold anything I've mined yet.

Is there a way to calculate what my income has been? The IRS says it should be calculated at the point of receipt, so it would be nice if cointracking added up the value of all my mining transactions at the time they were mined.  Instead of calculating the current value of all my mining proceeds.

Thanks for the help!!

this is the exact date

7th  Feb: We can see the Monero fix here:
               https://github.com/ShenNoether/RingCT/commit/6640e808018bb47ea34fd112dbf2d2bef9c1156b
               https://github.com/monero-project/research-lab/commit/b215a98a749c452c0a0336ab4ee93b1d71df2e78

11th Feb: Shen Noether wrote this public blog: Broken Crypto in Shadowcash
12th Feb: The Monero developers and Community leaders also started a forum campaign to discredit the Shadow Project, and at the same time raise the profile of Monero by for example by posting these ---> ShadowCash is mathematically broken. I urge all SDC supporters to join Monero

Normally what usually happens and is expected is that if any vulnerability or major bug is found, it is common professional courtesy to let the developers know of the problem before you make it public and that didn’t happen here.

I remember the "bug" was taken quite seriously and needed verifying. I believe one user from this community on this thread jumped the gun and called "fud" when presented with the whole breakdown of shens notes and not just some speculation from the monero crowd. A unnecessary knee jerk reaction, but unnecessary all the same.

I believe the ShadowCash developers tried to break the code before actually having all of shens notes(as the speculation was coming from multiple monero and other troll accounts here on this medium). I believe they said as much and assured the community that they tried and failed to break it in the 10 hours they tried. Remembering that was based on speculation alone! Once verified however, after having shens full notes and breakdown of the correct way to break the codel. The community was told that shen was correct and was thankful to him/them and the bounty was arranged. That was handled for the most part in other mediums of communication but i do remember it all being here, eventually, as well, from members of this community.

Most skidmarks just have to remember there was a bounty for this exact reason in the first place. Shadowcash, its developers, and community members are far better off, now, then they were before shen brought up that bug. The system worked and peer review paid off. I still believe if the developers here were after money alone they would have dumped the project and gone to work for Microsoft...a long time ago!

Why do i believe this? Because you can actually have a relationship with the development team here (and it is a TEAM comprised of professionals not some upstart pretending to be a team). I have had one and got to know them quite intimately. I believe they are one of very few teams who actually show their faces and meet their community in public places. The ShadowCash team is among some of the great names who publicly back their ideas and code with real interactions, in real places.

They are not only great people but have proved over and over again that they believe in something as a collective and will do what it takes to work together to chip away at those goals.

P.S Dev team, i cant seem to find info from official ShadowCash sources. I think its really important to show the findings of shen if only as a badge. It is valuable that you are that transparent, everywhere.
There is nothing to hide, it is a bit embarrassing, but you handled it like the professionals you are and ShadowCash is far better off now because of it. Be proud, stay diligent, and stay safe.

It also shows how the Shadow team is much more professional than Monero's.  Even after this fiasco where monero devs acted childish and unprofessionally, didn't a shadow dev find two different really bad bugs in monero's ringct? Yet the dev let them know, instead of starting a campaign to discredit monero.  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they found a unlimited coin generation bug and a deanonymization bug.

Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Currency has been released
by

I think the 'Sia Wallet Encrypted Backup Seed' appears when you make a new wallet so you can copy down the seed.  Because when the wallet first opens you don't know what seed is being used for your list of addresses.  Once I make a new wallet though do all my addresses come from that seed that I was able to copy down?

If I import the siakey into my wallet are my siafunds wiped from my siakey and imported into the seed addresses? I'm worried if that's so, I won't always have my siakey to back up and if something happened with my wallet that my siafunds would be forever lost.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, once you make a seed, all of your new addresses come from that seed. You may still have old money in the old addresses though, so you'll need to keep all of your seeds unless you send all of your money to yourself. After you import the siakey, you'll only lose the siafunds from the siakey if you move them around or claim siacoins out of them. If you are using your siafunds, they will eventually be transferred to the seed that the wallet is using.

Sorry for the poor UX in the wallet, we're going to be actively working on it at some point in the near future, but have our hands full with the host and the renter, and with improving test coverage across the project. Thanks for being patient.

Okay great thanks for all your help! And it's great you're working on the nuts and bolts before the UX

Thanks! In mine it's install-dir/resources/app/Sia/ and then what you had.  In /Sia/wallet I have wallet.json, wallet.log, and Sia Wallet Encrypted Backup Seed-____________.Seed.  Do I need to backup all 3? All they all encrypted or just the Encrypted Backup Seed? I don't want to store unencrypted backups.

In addition I was wondering how to check my siafunds address? I have a SiafundAddress_Key0.siakey file but when I open it in text edit it's all gibberish.

Thanks!

The wallet.json and the encrypted backup seed are both encrypted, you can't open them without the password. Just backing up the wallet.json is enough, at this point I'm forgetting why there is the 'Sia Wallet Encrypted Backup Seed', I was using it personally at some point but now I don't remember what it was good for.

To check your siafunds, you should import the siakey into the wallet, and then restart 'siad'. The wallet should then be able to display your siafunds balance.

You can make backup all blockchain and it is stored in appdata/roaming/sia folder.

That is incorrect. I struck it out just so no one mistakenly follows it.

The contents in the roaming folder are unrelated to Sia and are Electron files to speed up operation of the UI.

If you intend to backup your data it is all stored in the same folder you installed Sia in a series of folders at either:

install-dir/siad.exe
install-dir/siac.exe
install-dir/wallet/ (Contains wallet.json)
install-dir/consensus/ (Contains blockchain)
install-dir/gateway/
install-dir/host/ (Contains any hosting contracts you may have)
install-dir/renter/ (Contains .sia files to retrieve your uploads)

or

install-dir/sia-ui.exe
install-dir/resources/app/siad.exe
install-dir/resources/app/siac.exe
install-dir/resources/app/wallet/ (Contains wallet.json)
install-dir/resources/app/consensus/ (Contains blockchain)
install-dir/resources/app/gateway/
install-dir/resources/app/host/ (Contains any hosting contracts you may have)
install-dir/resources/app/renter/ (Contains .sia files to retrieve your uploads)

(I might not have the paths exactly right since this is from memory right now but that's the idea)

I found this info very helpful, It should deff be on the OP easy for everyone to find since SIA works a little differently than basic coins. just as simple when you know where/what you're looking for to make back ups etc.

I have been away from sia for awhile and my wallet version is pretty old.  Last time I was here (like 4 months ago) there were issues with coins being lost.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can safely download the new wallet version and how to get my old wallet.dat file in the new program?  There were changes on where the wallet.dat is saved so I'm not sure how to proceed I don't want to lose any coins.  I also had sianotes as well.

Thanks for the help!

1: Download and sync the new sia client. Don't unlock your wallet until it syncs.

2: Click the wallet tab then "new wallet" (or something like that) on top right of screen.

3: SAVE the long password they give you! That is your password.. and you can also recover your coins with it even if you lose your wallet.json file

4: Unlock your wallet and then click load legacy wallet. Point it to your old wallet with the old funds and you should be good to go from there.

If you have siafunds.. I believe you can import them using the same method. I haven't done this myself though not because we can't but because I just want to make damn sure everything is working the way it should before I play with those.

FYI: Your wallet.json file can be found in your sia folder under resources>>App>>Sia>>wallet
You should probably still make a copy of this even though the long password is as good as your wallet.

Thanks for the quick reply! Why is the wallet.json file there instead of in library>>application support like most other wallets?  And is the wallet encrypted in this version?  Thanks again!

My wallet is on the right block and is unlocked for staking.  It says not staking because don't have any mature coins but my coins have 1000+ confirmations.  Any ideas why?

Hey everyone! I've been away from the forums for a while but am excited to see how well shadow has been doing while I've been gone.  I had some questions that would be great if someone knew the answer to.

Why are we trying to retrieve the funds given to Zeuner? Don't we want someone examining shadowsend?  I read after the alpha market release there are plans to hire a cryptographer.  Would he/she be looking at just the market code or shadowsend as well?

Also, I made an HD wallet (I know I'm late) and didn't put a passphrase in.  I sent all my coins to it and made a backup of the HD wallet, not that it is really needed.  I wanted the wallet password protected so I hit settings, encrypt wallet and it warned me that all old backups wouldn't be useful for security reasons.  Is this true? Should I replace those backups? And either way my phrase always works correct?

It was really awesome seeing how well the devs handled the bug and I can't wait for all the great things still to come.  Thanks for the help!

I haven't kept up to speed on Anoncoin since the crash around November 2014.  So it's been awhile!

If possible could someone fill me in on what's been going on with Anoncoin or where I could find development updates and future plans? That would be great thank you! Last I knew we had the RSA UFOs generated and work on implementing zerocoin was started but not finished by gnosis.  Also, the devs were trying to fix the difficulty algorithm and some issues with sending transactions.

Thanks!

Hi I haven't checked in on the project in a bit and was wondering how I get my coins off Koinify? Also, the mac wallet doesn't work for me there's no GUI just a FactomApps folder with a lot of exec files (walletapp, factom-cli, factomd, fctwallet).  There is also a StaticFiles folder with a lot of files in it.  Does mac only have the command line wallet for now?

Thanks

You can import your 12 word passphrase from koinify into poloniex.

Thanks so much! Didn't realize that

I just have fopund out, that sia is a project I will have a look at. Well, compared to sjcx it is yet far behind, but I am pretty sure when the block reward will halfed, the price will sky rocket. No doubt on that.

Did you mean that Storjx is behind Sia? That is right. Sia works in the live production environment now and you can upload and download files. You can make little money by renting out your space. Sia is the only live product in this space.

Yeah Sia is the only one that is currently working.  So while this press was great https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/sia-launches-decentralized-blockchain-based-storage-platform-similar-to-filecoin-and-storj-1449082814 it would have been awesome if they also mentioned Sia was the only working one.  Storj is still in beta, and filecoin I don't think is even open to the public yet.

Amazing dev team thanks for all the hard work and update!

I read that BitBay, Blackcoin, Sys, Sling, and NXT Free Market all have currently working decentralized marketplaces.  I stumbled onto the post after discovering the Sling thread.  Does anyone know if this is even true or these are just scam coins/vaporware?  I don't see how I didn't know decentralized markets were already working, or why investors wouldn't have moved to those coins and increased the market caps once a decentralized market was released.

Obviously shadow has multiple advantages over these coins, the biggest being true anonymity, but it's worrying to read that other coins have released working decentralized marketplaces and nothing has resulted from it.  Hopefully it's because they aren't truly decentralized markets or don't function well like shadow's will.  If anyone has any info on those coins/markets that would be great!

I just don't get how shadow has made so much progress and the price has only gone down recently.  Please don't be discouraged though devs because I haven't sold one coin and don't plan to! It's just strange that even with the first ever HD wallet we didn't gain more traction.  I'm hoping the same doesn't happen after the market release especially if those coins also had market releases and nothing happened to them.  Because I didn't know about most of them.

Shadow hopefully will get a lot more traction it already deserves a ton more now with true anonymity and first ever HD wallet!

Sia is about 6 months old and has been built by ~3 people. There is only one password, nobody has lost coins since 0.3, upnp is working, and you really only need to touch the UI.

You guys definitely have made substantial progress the last 3 months!! It's amazing about only 3 of you were able to build this network in less than a year.  Imagine after 2 years where Sia could be!

Could funds from the siafund sale be used to hire more devs? That way it's more than just 3 of you working on such a big project.

Thanks

The dev left, but a dedicated team took over

Does anyone know why the dev left? Sorry I'm behind on what's going on.  And is the marketplace functional? If so, I feel like a new competent dev would gladly take over working on a decentralized market.  Sounds amazing!

So I can't quit siad until the transaction is confirmed? Generally how long does it take for it to stop saying pending -110S?

And about the fees, I have four transactions that are just -10S with none of the money I sent going through.  Then today another transaction appeared that's -110 so one did work.  The address listed is not the one I sent to though which is strange.  Maybe some fees went through without the transaction because I was quitting siad? Didn't realize I had to wait for all the confirmations before I could close the wallet.

And yes I'm trying to send coins to myself does that change how I should do things? Thanks!

You can quit it, it only gets dropped from your local transaction pool, but everyone else will have the transaction. If you restart siad though, then you might run into issues.

It sounds like the coins went through. I'm not sure what's indicating to you that the send was unsuccessful, but if you paid the transaction fee you are probably safe.

I have 4 -10 S transactions in my wallet and then I tried again another day and now transactions are going through (with I'm assuming the 10S).  But they are appearing as the whole number that I sent.  Not sure how I could have had 4 transactions as only fees go through or maybe it's just a minor GUI error.  Either way it's only 40 S Smiley And it seems to be working fine now.

That's amazing that alpha release is this month! What features will it include? I feel like the price does not get all the amazing things happening!
Im not sure what the release will include but we will find out soon enough, no price does not reflect the amount of work put into this project but that will change consider it a buying opportunity, because the market is just one aspect of the future of SDC the dev team and members of the community including myself have a lot of things planned for the future of shadow.

Yes I have not sold a single shadowcoin since buying them awhile ago even though it's much lower now.  The price is pretty low considering we are the first coin with truly anonymous transactions, better ring sigs, HD wallet, and alpha release of decentralized market soon.  Hopefully people will start realizing how amazing shadow and our devs are and start buying!
