⭐ Merited by NLNico (1)
As a participant in The Legend of Satoshi Nakamoto from the very beginning in late summer of 2014, I'm absolutely thrilled that someone has finally solved this last piece of the ARG. I learned so much about cryptography and bitcoin during the solving--and made treasured puzzle friends in the process. What a wonderful experience!

So excited to read about the solve!

Congrats to the brilliant creators and solvers!

4Pollo, would you mind making those corrections on your grid and reposting. I'm not adept with the style and formatting on bitcointalk.

Also, just to clarify, here is the distribution I've found, slightly bit different from other postings. Again, not sure it matters, because frequency analysis doesn't seem to work:

12 1b
11 6b
10 7a
     3b
     3d
8   1a
     8a
     9b
     7b

7   2a

6   8b

     5a
     2d
     4d
4   3a

The picture has many cells and the colors and triangles could all hold information.

im guessing u mean something like

This looks like a pigpen cipher which was also used in the previous unsolved puzzle.

Also note that the placement of the white triangle on each 3x3 grid can have 4 different orientations, but only 3 orientations are ever used. There is no grid that has a triangle in this orientation: ◣

Using the grid numbering as above, and the position of the triangle, where ◤=a, ◥=b, ◢=d, the map becomes:
Code:
6b 7a 8b             7a 2b 2b    1d             6a    9b
8a    1d    1d    3d 7a 1a       1d    2a 3b 1a 6d 5a
         7a       6b 1a       7b 5d 5b 4a    7b 2d
      9b 2d             8a 3b 5a 3d 8b          2d
         6a 7b 9a    8d          7b 7b       8d    4d
4d    6b    3d 2b 7b 2b 2b 7b 2a 9b 5b 4d    8d 1b 4b
   1b 8a    2a 4b                      2a 1b 8b
6d             3d    6b 9a 4a 8b 3d    7d 8a
   1a    9a 4a 6d    7d          1a    5a
3a    6a 2b    7d    4a    7d    6b    3d    3b 7a    4b
               3d    3d          9b    4b 3b 4b    1b
            9a 5a    9a 5a 3a 6a 4b    8a             9b
         3b 1a 9b                      2b 8a    8d 6b
   8a 2a 6a    8a 1b 1b 8a 7a 1a 7a 3b 9a 7a    6b    4d
   7d    9b       5b 2b    6b    6d    1b 1b 1b
      *b          3b 1b 6b 3b 3a             3b 7d
      1b 6a    3a 8b 5b 9a       7a 2a       8d
   2d 6b *a 6d 5d    5d    1a 1b 7a 5b    6d    7b    5d
7b    2d             3d    8d 3d 9b             7d 8b 6a
And the character count is:
Code:
1b 7a 6b 3d 8a 7b 3b 9b 2b 1a 9a 7d 6a 8d 8b 4b 2a 6d 5b 5a 2d 5d 4d 4a 3a 1d *b *a
12 10 10 10  9  9  9  8  8  8  7  7  7  6  6  6  6  6  5  5  5  4  4  4  4  4  1  1

So there's 26 unique characters, so we probably just have to assign the right letters to these.

Here is a corrected version of the earlier posted grid (4 corrections marked with underscores):
Code:
6b 7a 8b             7a 2b 2b    1d             6a    9b
8a    1d    1d    3d 7a 1a       1d    2a 3b 1a 6d 5a
         7a       6b 1a      _7d_5d 5b 4a    7b 2d
      9b 2d            _8d_3b 5a 3d 8b          2d
         6a 7b 9a    8d          7b 7b       8d    4d
4d    6b    3d 2b 7b 2b 2b 7b 2a 9b 5b 4d    8d 1b 4b
   1b 8a    2a 4b                      2a 1b 8b
6d             3d    6b 9a 4a 8b 3d    7d 8a
   1a    9a 4a 6d    7d          1a    5a
3a    6a 2b    7d    4a    7d    6b    3d    3b 7a   _4d_
               3d    3d          9b    4b 3b 4b    1b
            9a 5a    9a 5a 3a 6a 4b   _7a_            9b

Some thoughts for directions to decode the aztec code that might not be an aztec code:

  • interpret the empty spaces instead: “When in your house black crows give birth to white doves, then you will be called wise”?
  • interpret blocks of it as bitstrings and then convert?
  • interpret blocks of it as braille?
  • interpret blocks of it as some other script, like http://www.omniglot.com/conscripts/ancients.htm ?

None of those really account for the 2 pixels that don't match the symmetry though, nor does it use the markings...

I went back over the map, and found a couple of corrections to make (and suggestions for those 2 hard-to-read blocks bottom left):

Good work on the puzzle, Dalek and others. The 26 unique characters seem to indicate that there's an alphabetic character correlation for each yellow block. But no luck at all decoding a message with frequency analysis, reading the map in many directions (including spirals).  I have a slightly different distribution for your 1b, 7a, 6b, etc; just labeled it differently (and I spent hours painstakingly reading the map): 12 11 10 10 10 8 8 8 8 8 8 7 7 7 6 6 6 6 5 5 5 4 4 4 4 4. That difference isn't really significant for frequency analysis though.

After so many tries, I’m wondering if this just doesn’t require frequency analysis after all. Yet after trying other strategies for assigning alphabetic characters to the yellow blocks, I’m just stuck.

In the past, Coin_artist's art puzzles presented a relatively easy-(but not simple)-to-find bitcoin address, and the ensuing stages of the puzzle eventually led to finding the private key. I’ve got to assume that the current step should be relatively easy. It’s a rabbit hole and is supposed to entice us. And it shouldn't require advanced programming or crypto skills. I don’t have those, yet I have been able to keep up with most stages of her prior puzzles.

I do believe, though, that the keypad entry for the text adventure will be discovered by interpreting the map somehow.

Those are my completely unhelpful thoughts.

Too bad there isn't a public Slack chat for posting our progress. Anyone want to start one? Much better interface.

Here's #9: You are in a rusted iron chamber. Water is trickling from large iron pipes above you. On the wall someone has scrawled “When in your house black crows give birth to white doves, then you will be called wise.”

Interesting puzzle. I missed the last one. Anyone kind enough to explain the rules/instruction for the puzzle?

The fun thing about these puzzles is that there are no rules or instructions. Except for these: http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial/10com.jpe

Was thinking along the same lines. The orange squares seem deliberate, not just for artistic effect. But how do we know to read from upper left to lower right in each 3x3 block?

And did you notice that the dark green "paths" in the puzzle look like pipes? And the terracotta colors simulate rust. And the shimmery triangles make the yellow blocks look like water. The painting evokes the scene described in the text adventure. Very clever!!

Puzzle solving has moved to Let's Talk Bitcoin forum. I don't know if this will be a temporary detour during the next chapter of the puzzle or a permanent move. If you have been following and want to participate in the ARG, refer to this post
So at the end of video we're being redirected to http://letstalkbitcoin.com/account?r=/rabbit-a01daj2dakf9

Looks like a referral, but when I put "rabbit" as login and "a01daj2dakf9" as password, all I get is "Account not activated. Please check your email"

EDIT: Entered my own credentials, and looks like the rest of the game will take place through the forum...not sure though.
Here's what appears after I log in with that referral:

Wow, that was a whirlwind. Nice BRICK WALL, OP!! http://whit3r4bbi7.com/onedoorclosesanotherdooropens/

then http://whit3r4bbi7.com/onedoorclosesanotherdooropens/adooradooradooradoor.php (thanks to FableOfTheBees)

then http://whit3r4bbi7.com/onedoorclosesanotherdooropens/door_1_2.mp4

then http://letstalkbitcoin.com/account?r=/rabbit-a01daj2dakf9

then register at https://counterwallet.co/#

then send some btc to your counterparty wallet
then send some out of that wallet to your LTB account

then verify  on LTB, then open Community tab on LTB, then click on The Legend of Satoshi Nakamoto on the left, and welcome to the next stage of the adventure...

sorry if I missed a few steps in that process

Glad you posted, alphabetacanary. Same questions about those frames.

OP put an astounding amount of art, intelligence, heart, and soul into this puzzle. And it has been a wild ride so far. We can show her our support by continuing to follow the path, see how far we can go. We may eventually get stalled and need some hints. But we can most certainly wait for those, as long as it takes. There's no hurry. The fun is in the journey, not the destination.

Interesting, Micaman! I can't remember if the content of either alpha or beta mp4 moved us forward. OP put a lot of creativity into them, so it would be good to revisit.

Indeed, I think we have a lot of loose ends from earlier stages... [and I'm really intimidated by the Game of Life challenge Smiley ]

For one, did anyone find the private key to the QR code found in the Banksy notes https://blockchain.info/address/1BZ3wRijRMcZ5u85fkPUgtpX3gbqBSEvQJ )? 0.3 btc is still there, I'm assuming no one has claimed it.

What about that fuzzy (text?) image in the alpha video?

As a diversion, I tried to do something with the audible notes in the Philip Glass scores on both alpha and beta, thinking about both morse and binary (Glass has been keenly aware of the binary quality of his compositions http://www.thefader.com/2012/05/01/new-music-an-interview-with-philip-glass ). On beta, it just sounds like 101010101010 for 8 bars.  On alpha, the notes go 001 011 (or 110 100)  for, I think, 30 bars. I looked at his musical scores for notes. I got nowhere with this line of thought. Perhaps OP just wanted to use a binary-sounding score for the videos--clever!. Micaman's spectrograms may hold more promise.

I also played for a while with the 404 string f8bf41177a5f5e808a7ccb648b51080b031f15ca8018d91a576263d6cc626eb6  and the .gif string  c524c32c714f1ffbbdcffd76bb3dbd7e3abe012a11bb81f2c4936018a6fd2490   but all conversions led to valid private keys to addresses with 0 bitcoin. (an educational exercise nevertheless)

Itod: on my screen, I see various blue hues behind $ATOSHI FALSE B-E-W-A-R-E.

alphabetacanary: Good find. I love those Dore illustrations. And thanks for the 3-D bunny from the stereogram. Wonder if the 3-D indicates something going forward.

Charon was the ferryman in Greek myth and Dante's Divine Comedy, charged with transporting newly deceased souls across the rivers Styx and Acheron to the afterlife. In Dore, he is pictured beating those in the river who are delaying their journey.  OP: "if you lose yourself / Godspeed to the bela7ed"

Uh Oh, that's exactly what I've been doing...

Bees' knees! This is SOO interesting...

Here's a dumbed-down, useful article about Game of Life (for whom this is all new, like me): http://www.math.com/students/wonders/life/life.html

Thank you, RussHarben and @FableOfTheBees for pushing us forward with great insights.

More shoutouts for recent work:

Itod: Awesomely helpful posts above, especially the imgur with stills from the running bunny video.

alphabetacanary: Thank you for explaining the recent step-by-step--really necessary for those following along. I look forward to knowing what you saw in the placeholder Magic Eye pic. I still can't see it.

Micaman: Excellent sleuthing under the hood, as always.

I was able to access the next step without dealing with the extraneous capitals LFTABFBIWNF, but maybe they will come in handy later. The last line bothered me for quite a while, but now I think I understand why it is Capitalized That Way (as a hint to the key phrase).
