[TUTORIAL] Running up a Bitcoin node on Synology NAS
by
roshii
on 04/03/2019, 12:46:01 UTC
I'm not up to reformatting the whole tutorial and will just lazily invite you to visit https://bitcoindev.network/running-a-bitcoin-node-on-synology-nas/ to check it out.

It will be walking you through the steps of setting up a bitcoin node docker container on a Synology Network-attached storage (NAS) device in just a few simple steps.

In a sense, Bitcoin is about claiming back full ownership: your keys, your money. Network-attached storage is also about claiming full ownership over your data. Considering that a typical NAS might likely have spare storage, and typically runs 24/7, this makes them perfect candidates on which to run a bitcoin node.

Have fun.

The Case for a Crypto-Portfolio Management Tool
by
roshii
on 24/09/2018, 14:39:18 UTC
I am happy to release Brane's white paper https://brane.cc/white-paper, arguing in favor of a portfolio management tool, describing required functionalities and setting a road map for future extensions. It concludes :

Quote
Brane will offer all the tools necessary to private investors to manage their crypto fund with a simple internet connection and computer. On top of the later, investors will be able to include or exclude any third party or asset they deem non trustworthy, following their very own analyses or belief.

In the longer term Brane, will not only connect investors and create a decentralized market for data and computing resources but will also allow anyone with limited knowledge in crypto investment to participate in this market and delegate management to Brane which will retrieve and run best proven strategies matching investor's profile.

A simple features overview can be found on project's home page https://brane.cc.

I'll be happy to receive feedback, good or bad, always welcome!

Kickstarting a crypto portfolio management tool
by
roshii
on 14/06/2018, 14:22:22 UTC
After more that five years trading cryptocurrencies, I did face difficulties tracking positions held at various exchanges & wallets and realized close to nothing existed for one to track its positions without going through a third party.

I have therefore taken the initiative to start working on a tool that will be able to talk to various crypto exchanges and wallets to ease management of crypt-investments by:

-    Reading cryptocurrencies balance held at exchanges and wallets
-    Providing real-time and at date portfolio balance
-    Aggregating exchanges price data, i.e user specific price index
-    Providing quantitative market analysis
-    Automating trading

Please have a look at initial SRS on Github if you'd like to know more about it and do not hesitate to contact me to request functionality that would be important to you or if you wish to participate in product development.

--> https://github.com/roshii/brane

Once the basic features highlighted here above will be fully functional I do plan at adding functionality that would allow sharing (selling?) automated trading strategies that works best and truly decentralize investment by not relying on any third party like ETF for anyone willing to invest in crypto.

Re: CoinWallet.eu Stress Test Cancelled + Bitcoin Giveaway
by
roshii
on 11/09/2015, 17:39:05 UTC
Seems to me that the stress test, also known as Bitcoin Giveaway, has failed to harm the Bitcoin transactions in any way.

While Mem pool is quite large and tx back-log has also grown, it seems that the only back-log are the spam transactions them self.

Real transactions are going through as usual Smiley

Indeed, not a big deal for the network as a whole in the end Smiley

Hardware requirement to run a full node is increased however: mine is now using about 1 GB RAM (while meme pool size has decreased already) instead of 350 MB usually... CPU usage seems a little higher as well

In any case, that is/was to be expected with network growth

anyone taking bets that the database wasn't backed up and they lost all the data on the whole site?

Data seemed to be there when I posted as I could see order and communication history.
However site is down as I am writing.

Their email server doesn't react as well... That s*** doesn't smell good as I am/was still hoping for my compensation....

BA is back online and posted the below on eCoinTalk

Posted Today, 04:59 AM

Dear customers,

Our website is currently down due to HDD catastrophic failure.

We have been waiting for our ISP to bring it back online for the last 24 hours. 12 hours ago they brought it back online but the mysql database is corrupted. While we tried to restore it from the backup we lost ssh access and we are unable to login anymore. We are waiting for our ISP to restore the access.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We are doing our utmost to bring it back online but as the server is in Germany we cannot fix it ourselves and must wait for our ISP to fix it.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: Proposing new feature in Bitcoin protocol to reduce the number of thefts
by
roshii
on 23/10/2014, 12:23:33 UTC
This thread is not a serious thread about any sort of protocol recommendation, frankly what they're describing is so misguided and ridiculous, it's not even "wrong".

The OP is a wire fraud criminal who fled Romania for the UK in the mid/early-2000's to avoid prosecution, and is currently running a scam with the Black Arrow Prospero line of pre-ordered miners to the tune of several million dollars of customer funds.

Black Arrow did not actually cash out any customer payments made upwards of a year ago until mysteriously finally moving them from the original payment addresses exactly when this thread was created, which indicates that this entire thread is merely a cover for embezzling the entirety of their customer's payments that were performed in bitcoin.

Well well... I was wondering for some times what action should I take... I now know and have no trust in BA left: I'll file a complaint with the Hong Kong Consumer Council.

Does anyone knows if "group complaint" can be made under HK law? Or does it have to be individual claims only?

Re: Proposing new feature in Bitcoin protocol to reduce the number of thefts
by
roshii

It would only be vigilantism if someone stolen them to avenge the victims of black arrows incompetence and negligence, I've not seen any convincing evidence that theft is actually the case yet. Although that would be better than the alternative.

Even though time passes and does not comfort my feelings it do not feel stolen (yet) and still want to believe BA will offer proper compensation at some point in time.

I personally think BA does have a real crap supply chain, vendor management and customer service...
They have proven (more than once) not being able to maintain a proper/realistic production schedule.
They have proven not being able to get what they require from their vendors
They have proven not being able to offer what they stated to their customers

It looks like I (amateur miner/developer) would start tomorrow an bitcoin mining ASCI company a promise delivery within 6 month, with off course no experienced team nor established vendor relationship.

This would have been a (meant) scam, I assume we'd not hear about BA anymore with their founder enjoying a pile of dollars somewhere on a sunny island.... But we still hear and read about them (mainly not in a positive manner though).

To make it short, I think/assume:
1. BA realized about supply chain management early 2014 - too late
2. BA realized about vendor management mid 2014 - much too late
3. Consequently, BA faced reliability issue on their X3 unit putting even more pressure on their (nonexistent) supply chain management
4. Consequently again, BA faces customer anger for defect product and delayed delivery putting even more pressure on their (nonexistent) customer service

Since I still trust BA has good will, I think it is a wise decision to continue with new product development since only next gen units could now fairly compensate customers. Refunding/financial compensation would just kill the company in my opinion and vigilantism by stilling from them would only benefit to the theft (BA customer would probably never see a single satoshi of such a theft)

For the history, I have ordered two X1 units back in November '13 and received them functional (without LCD and WiFi) late July '14. Units are working perfectly since then.
Now required from BA a free "X1 14 nm" as compensation, which they said they'd investigate...

I had found this post as well but was not sure it was the good direction to follow. Thanks to your confirmation I insisted and finally got it working. It took my some time to figur out that API was returning a list of dictionaries and not a dictrionary directly... Therefore my doubt...

Again, gracie mille, that works Smiley

Instead, why don't you propose a system where after you manufacture bitcoin mining hardware with customer preorder money, you deliver it to your customers in the advertised time period, with the advertised compensation plans, with the advertised quality.

+1

Cannot say that better!

I was wondering for some time if I was reading correctly?! BA talking about bitcoin protocol?!?
Nothing else better to do at the moment?!?!?!?  Un-fu****-believable...
