Received the two coins I ordered. They arrived quickly and were packed well. They do both have small nicks in them, but they might have come that way from Casascius for all I know.
I checked the addresses - one of them has an extra .001BTC that was added July 1, sent from an address that also sent .001 to a whole bunch of other addresses, the other doesn't. What's with that? Not really a problem (hey, free .001BTC), just kinda strange.

That's awesome and odd. I wonder who is sending out some free coinage? Haha.
As for the coins they come straight from Casascius in a paper roll of 50 coins and then vacumme sealed in a plastic bag. Once I receive them I use cloth gloves to place them in the plastic cases you received them in. I'm sorry they have nicks in them. I will check my other coins when I get home from vacation and will exchange them for you if you want.

That same address previously sent a whole bunch of 1BTC to many, many addresses and then 100BTC to two addresses and 25BTC to one address. My first thought was that was Casascius loading his coins and then doing... something sending a little extra. But spot-checking the 1BTC addresses doesn't show what I would expect in this case, which would be that all those addresses just had one (or two) transactions to them, and they all hold a nice round 1BTC (or 1.001BTC), but that's not really what I'm seeing. A mystery!

sorry if this is a repeat Q - with KNCMiner stating its 400/jupiter now what is the new hash per share now?
by my calculations it should be - 400/30 = 13.33. Pls confirm.

For those of you who aren't subscribed to the KNCMiner newsletter, it appears as though the Jupiter is going to have a little bit more grunt that previously expected - 400GH/s - giving us 13.3 GH/s per share instead of 11.6 GH/s.

The thing is, most people have switched to mining litecoins with their gpus due to their easier difficulty and lack of ASICs. So if you arent one of the people with rigs dedicated to mining, you should probably mess around with litecoin.
You're probably right that mining alt coins (litecoin) is more efficient for GPU miners, but many newbies just won't be interested in the added complication. Personally I can talk to friends about bitcoin, but with alternative coins it starts to become tedious. For many people one cryptocurrency is enough. For me, you're right, I should probably switch.

Of course! I hope I didn't imply I'd convert to fiat. So far I've mined bitcoin, converted fiat to bitcoin, paid friends for things using bitcoin, bought asicminer shares with bitcoin, but one thing I haven't done is converted any coin to fiat.

I'm sure I already know the answer to this question, but would pre-registration time count toward 4 hours on the forum? I've spent many, many hours lurnking reading bitcointalk threads, but it looks like none of that counts toward posting requirements until I register an account.
It's not exactly what it's made for, but in my experience the easiest way to get money into Mt. Gox is by way of Coinbase. Setting up an account in Coinbase was easy, though actually buying bitcoins takes about a week. From there you can send coins to Mt. Gox and do your day trading there by converting to/from fiat. If your goal is just to buy bitcoins through Mt. Gox then this probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but if you want to speculate/trade, this was the easiest way I found.
GPU mining got my foot in the door on Bitcoin. So far it's still cost effective for me, but the difficulty increase is about to make my poor GPU irrelevant in the next couple cycles. Even so, it's a decent way for newbies to get a few mbtc to start playing with and pique their interest.
