That means that somebody owns 2% of all ethereum.

I think you could crash the market with much less than that, let's be serious Smiley

Plus that this was the largest account at presale, we could have higher values than that (atm I can see 5 accounts with 1.5 mil each: https://etherscan.io/accounts).

A BLAST FROM THE PAST: Vitalik's post about ETHER presale in 2014
by

I was looking for some info on eth price at launch and price evolution and I stumbled upon this small gem telling the story of ETH presale (seems ages ago if you are new to crypto - new meaning <6-12months).

Some funny/amazing info regarding ETH presale:

Quote
we have to date received over 25000 BTC from selling over 50 million ETH

Quote
A total of 6670 transactions have been made, with values ranging from the minimum 0.01 BTC to a high of 500 BTC

Quote
all purchases were for 2000 ETH / BTC
(btc price ranged in that period between 600 and 800usd)

Quote
The largest single purchase was 500 BTC (1 million ether), followed by one at 466 BTC (933,580 ETH) and 330 BTC (660,360 ETH)
somebody bought 1 000 000 eth !!! Smiley

Now you've seen the numbers, you do the math...  Grin

Am I the only one sitting here thinking. Oh, great, something else for Coinbase to screw up?

We want it or not, Coinbase is one of the most important gateway for fiat-to-crypto (if not the most important). Lots of ERC20 that are quite popular with the crypto community will gain exposure to American capital - even if it's "only" from regular users (but could be institutional money also).

So, I will put this under good news if you don't mind...  Grin

Essentially what you need is a crystal ball/seer/soothsayer.

Don't need one, I prefer to exchange opinions with people more experienced; just add their input/experience to my own.  Wink

That being said, if someone did suggest a coin to you and you went off blindly mining it, even at the expense of earning less than you would mining ETH. Would you begrudge them if you mined it for a week/month/year and then it ended up being worth nothing? Would it be their fault for suggesting it to you? Or, would it be your own fault, for not doing your own research in the first place and seeing what options are open to you, rather than taking someone else's advice.

Ofc, I wouldn't mine some coin just because someone suggested it, but I would put some time to do a small research on it. Better to have a starting point that to get on the 1500+ coins listed on CMC, right? Smiley

If mining ETH is the only profitable coin for you to mine at the moment, why would you mine something else at your own expense when you can just buy those other coins with your profits from mining ETH?

Here I would say for a cost of opportunity. choosing to win less (lose some) in the short term to gain bigger roi in medium term. As a comparison: Library Coin (LBC) has a potential of growth based on history higher than ETH - just by looking at the charts; so, wouldn't be smarter to mine LBC adn wait for the bullisgh market to return? This was my question...

Some friends of mine told me that Electroneum has potential.

Actually I mined ETN at some point when they were closer to the launch (not just at launch), but I gave up because it seemed for me its price won't be able to grow because the team had issues with the ico (something with security) and delayed for weeks the launch.

Idk, maybe I should revisit the ROI figures for ETN...

OFFICIAL: COINBASE/GDAX to list ERC20 tokens soon
by

Coinbase has just announced that they are going to support ERC-20 assets, meaning that Ethereum tokens would be added to GDAX and later on possibly to Coinbase.

This means any of these coins can get a listing on GDAX + COINBASE soon. Great news I'd say!  Shocked

PS: what's your best guess for the first listing?

PPS: there's a framework for listing on GDAX, here's the document

Best alternatives for GPU mining (AMD) except ETH?

Hi guyz,

what are some suggestions for the best coin to mine atm with AMD gpus for best medium term gains? Pls don't give me a link to whattomine.com, I read their recommendations.

I am asking for coins with best potential for growth in the next 6-9 months that can be mined with gpus - even if their current ROI is under eth.

Any suggestions?

APEX (CPX) to be listed on chinese LBANK exchange
by
samovarul
on 22/03/2018, 23:18:26 UTC
Apex (CPX) announced that they will list on LBANK exchange (chinese) at the beginning of April.

Quote
We are happy to announce that APEX Network (CPX) will be debuting on LBank, a consistently top 13 exchange by volume and growing. LBank has the highest exchange volume for Vechain, and some of the highest volumes for coins such as QTUM, Bitcoin Cash, and ZCash, and soon Telegram (GRAM).

APEX Network debuting on LBank is well positioned as a first exchange listing — Lbank, with 60% of its users in Greater China, houses a substantial amount of demand for CPX on the secondary market that was previously inaccessible during the Token Sale. LBank is also an exchange that strategically chooses tokens, as it has only listed 26 tokens up to date. LBank will work with the APEX team to strategically handcraft and promote the launch of CPX in the Greater China market.

Listing is confirmed for early April, no changes. Date will be announced 1-2 days in advance.
LBank will have a version update and will be completely international friendly, before CPX listing. You can switch to English version on top right.

Regarding our latest announcement
- Listing is confirmed for early April, no changes. Date will be announced 1-2 days in advance.
- LBank will have a version update and will be completely international friendly, before CPX listing. You can switch to English version on top right.

Apex is a NEP-5 token released on the NEO blockchain, until now the only exchanges to launch NEP5 are KuCoin and Binance.

It seems that the APEX CEO said they will never list on KuCoin (why?!), but now they announce a pretty noname exchange. For a token with big promises this looks a bit unusual - ofc, every investor expected them to be on KuCoin at least, if not Binance.
It is also possible they will list on the new NEO DEXes - NEX and Switcheo.

What do you make of this announcement?

Bithumb and other news for ICX are just pump&dump - no fundamental reasons to grow without mainnet

The reason to grow is anticipation, estimating volume increase significantly through new requests and with the requests also increase in price. Free economics 101, theoretically.

I think the most important question / idea is - how can we get rid of them or make them play fair.
Don’t think we have any solution right now...

PS: the author of the article suggested to remove them from cmc and other reliable sources of information.

I don't think that it will be 50/50. As it will lean more towards supporting the cryptocurrencies.

Agreed, it's not 50/50 long term, while crypto will grow it will be needed to become regulated. My major concern is that this "regulation" will also be a source of censorship - "let's accept only what suits us & our partners, ban the others" style.

But, for now, I'd hope we are a little far from that point.

OKex and many more faking trading volumes / wash trading
by
samovarul
on 21/03/2018, 14:12:47 UTC
TLDR:
- many of the exchanges with high daily volumes are faking transactions,
- OKex being the main suspect with 92.9% fake volumes
- Huobi the 2nd on the list, 81.8% fake volumes
- most of the chinese exchanges are faking it hard: Lbank, Exx, RightBTC, CoinEgg, Zb, BitZ, Bibox, CoinEx, BTC-Alpha…

Why should you care?
One may argue that “since it’s not a regulated market it’s not even illegal, why shouldn’t they do what they want?”, and one would be wrong. Precisely because the market is not regulated the responsibility behooves the market actors themselves. Spreading awareness and boycotting exchanges that endorse this practice is the least we can do.

One may argue that “well they’re not hurting anyone”, and one would be wrong. First of all, by inflating their volume, they position themselves in a way that could allow them to defraud gullible investors. More importantly, if you’re neither gullible nor a VC investor they can and they do have an impact on some cryptocurrencies valuation. Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash notably, have had as much as 75% of their volume circulating on one or the other of these exchanges. OKex alone consistently accounts for over 30% of either currency’s volume.

G20 closing statement on cryptocurrencies: We will keep monitoring it
by
samovarul
on 21/03/2018, 13:39:10 UTC
According to ICODrops - G20 closing statement on cryptocurrencies: we acknowledge it - but it needs regulations. We will keep monitoring it.

https://www.screencast.com/t/71PP1k62jki1

This should be seen as a good news for Bitcoin and crypto space; we knew regulation is coming, it's great they didn't decide to take a strong position against the technology.

Hi guys, my antminer l3+ is stuck from time to time and I have no way to reboot him (it's in another location).
What is the best option to do a restart/reboot remotely?

I have it connected to a bridged router, which connects on wifi with my main router.
After I reboot manually, when everything works ok, I can access it through ssh, but not through web interface (i don't know how).

PS: it is possible that my problem is the bridged router, maybe it hangs and the l3plus is without connection..
