Thanks to the bitcoiners who attended and came to say hello during the event!  It was a great time with around 220 people in attendance.  The audience was very diverse so I believe I was able to appeal to some more mainstream individuals in explaining the magic of bitcoins.  The other panelists were very engaging and I learned a lot about Woergl's and other complementary and local currency systems.  All in all a good night.

Thanks guys.  I have been cramming by looking at slides on slideshare and I feel pretty good now.  I may be a bit bitcoin heavy in my focus, but why  not since I do not believe anything else out there has as much scope.  I followed Flooz pretty closely in the day and I know of Gwolla, e-gold, Liberty Reserve, mileage points, Linden Bucks, Facebook Credits, SocialRewards, etc...  I will look into Beenz and QQ Coin.  Again- I am pretty comfortable with bitcoins...it's the other stuff I am worried about  Embarrassed

Greetings fellow bitcoiners,

Around 2 weeks ago I agreed to speak on a panel that a friend of mine said was looking for speakers.  I speak at a lot of conferences and I tend to be comfortable.  I expected the usual 30 to 40 person room with 3 fellow panelists and a moderator.  Well the panel is today and the room is a 350 person theater so I need to get myself well versed on the state of alternate currencies by the time I leave my office in 5 hours.

http://mindfocus-eorg.eventbrite.com/  This is the panel  Guess which one I am Cheesy

I own 500 BTC purchased at $0.70 and I have logged on 30+ hours on this forum so I am comfortable with the state of BTC- the problem is I have no idea what else is out there and  I want to be prepared since the moderator will probably expect us to be conversant in all the bitcoin related stuff that is out there.  I only care about bitcoins which is why I have had no interest in anything else except things like namecoin, etc that are discussed here.

My team is collaborating with certain other partners and patent holders to launch a secure mobile bitcoin wallet by the end of this year.  That initiative has the working name of SpreadTrust but we are in wireframes with an internal iOS beta anticipated late in October.  Our partners have issued patents that will help our product stand out and provide a rigorous level of two-factor authentication using a mobile phone.  I do not want to get into specifics about that project right now because I want to save it for when we have something to show you.  I also want to have our engineers prepared to answer your geeky questions because my last involvement with programming was in 1983 on an apple ][ and the language was BASIC so suffice it to say that logging into a website is the extent of my technological capabilities.

I would appreciate links to PDF's, Powerpoints, Essays, and Videos that can get me fluent in other related systems....sort of a primer on alternative currencies.  I can skim pretty fast so a few links willhelp me, or even names of stuff that I can Google myself.

Thank you in advance.  Please come say hi to me if you will be an attendee at this event.  It is not bitcoin related but 350 people in Los Angeles could possibly be converted to our religion if I do a good job.

Thx

XOXOXO

Sanjay

Sanjay, if your bitcoin client is not running, this does not mean your wallet is lost. Sometimes bitcoin client doesn't run for me either and I've got to manually close any previous executions before it will run(sometimes multiple times). If your wallet is missing, bitcoin.exe will still run. Check your "c:/users/(your account)/appdata/roaming/bitcoin/ " your wallet should be in there somewhere if it is still there.

Hope this helps.

Thank so you much!

I think this might have happened to me as well.  I purchased 500 BTC into wallet ID 1Jf48wufcDpPQ2EEgX1jUULuTHVzDhqBSF which I left unencrypted within the generic bitcoin client wallet on my desktop at home.  I tried to launch the bitcoin app this weekend but it did not run.  I am not a very tech savvy person so I am not sure if it is somewhere on my computer and I just can't find it, or if it was stolen.

Any advice appreciated.  I tried to provide details to see if anyone has any suggestions.  Thanks and sorry for hijacking, but I figure there are more than 2 dummies that ened help Cheesy

LOL check out their example of use in commerce: http://tdr.uspto.gov/jsp/DocumentViewPage.jsp?85353491/SPE20110625085727/Specimen/1/22-Jun-2011/sn/false#p=1

A fucking letter wherein they sell one bitcoin for $17.50.  I spoke to my IP attorney and he said that the application will be rejected since it has not yet been granted and a simple google search will prove that the filer is an idiot.  There is only a filing date on this and no registration date which means it has not yet been issued.  They have filed for International class 036 which is financial services and completely in the public domain.

The only exception to the above is if Satoshi is secretly the filer in which case good for him.  I highly doubt it though.

Keep sending those protests and this will not be granted.

The approach to take in fighting the trademark is that bitcoin is a generic term for describing actual bitcoins and as such is already in the public domain...

"Trademark rights can also be lost through genericity. Sometimes, trademarks that are originally distinctive can become generic over time, thereby losing its trademark protectionKellogg Co. v. National Biscuit Co., 305 U.S. 111 (1938). A word will be considered generic when, in the minds of a substantial majority of the public, the word denotes a broad genus or type of product and not a specific source or manufacturer. So, for example, the term "thermos" has become a generic term and is no longer entitled to trademark protection. Although it once denoted a specific manufacturer, the term now stands for the general type of product. Similarly, both "aspirin" and "cellophane" have been held to be generic. Bayer Co. v. United Drug Co., 272 F.505 (S.D.N.Y. 1921). In deciding whether a term is generic, courts will often look to dictionary definitions, the use of the term in newspapers and magazines, and any evidence of attempts by the trademark owner to police its mark."

I got my friends turned on to BTC and the featured it on their blog: http://newtechpost.com/2011/06/09/bitcoin-global-decentralized-currency-with-no-central-bank

They had interviewed me about my company a few months back and I mentioned my love of bitcoins so they followed up with a nice piece!

They seem to have a great approach towards building larger software projects by breaking them into smaller pieces.  Their love machine software also seems to be perfectly designed for using with bitcoins.

The above is a Qwiki which could be improved if others here were to suggest other images and videos.  I am new to the site and still learning what the options are for improving Qwiki's.
