so with myetherwallet.com, you can send funds to an ICO because it's a wallet and not an exchange?

INRI666: I hadn't heard about the ERC10 tokens, I have no idea what will happen if I transfer some money to the ICO for Bancor.  I assumed they'd contact me with further instructions?  Or will these tokens be sent to the same ethereum wallet?  Sorry, haven't got much experience with the cryptoworld , especially with ICO...  Smiley

Yes myetherwallet dose it job just perfect. I have been using myetherwallet for a long time and it is just awesome.

Be sure you have a clean operation system, generate a new wallet, save the file and/or the private key and you can make the payment to the ICO you want.

Myetherwallet is not an exchange so that address will be yours as long as you have the private key and/or the UTC file.

And how does MyEtherWallet compare (safety wise) to Poloniex, Kraken, Coinbase or CEX.io ?  I read  many people totally discouraging to leave any funds on Poloniex (which I'm doing right now)...

which ethereum (lightweight) wallet

hey everyone,

I need to make an Ethereum payment Monday so I'm looking for a good wallet.
I've made several attempts in the last months to start an Ethereum wallet and finally I gave up (took daaays each time and failed in the end).

I would like to hear some advice on which wallet to choose.  I'd need to make a payment by Monday, so if it needs to sync 2 days again I want to start today...

-is the official Ethereum wallet the way to go?  I tried with the GUI version, but had no success (even on a pc with ssd)
-exodus, jaxx?
-online wallets?  I need the wallet to make a payment for an ICO (Bancor) but the payment cannot come from an exchange.  So I assume it cannot come from (eg) Poloniex, but is Coinbase or CEX.io allowed?

I lost a lot of money today with this ripple crash  Huh
Hope it will rise again  Cry

Can I ask how you lost it?  Were you using a stoploss (I'm kind of confused which of the exchanges have stoplosses) or did you sell yourself?  I heard people say their stoploss got activated during a dump last night (ETH), but I thought stoplosses were only used in CFD trading and not in exchanges (like Kraken or Poloniex)? Forgive me the ignorance  Wink

can't open XMR wallet with CLI

Hi,

I have generated a wallet some days ago with the GUI, I noted down my password, address and still have all my files.

Now I'm trying to open my wallet on an other pc with the CLI, but it asks me for a spendkey.  I don't remember getting a spendkey from the GUI wallet.  Is that key in my keys file that was generated by the GUI?

I ran:
Quote
monero-wallet-cli.exe --generate-from-keys C:\Users\....\Documents\Monero\wallets\mywallet\mywallet.keys    ->ok

afterwards it asks the spendkey.  What do I fill in there , a filename?  the 25 words?

I got the exact same error, same expected hash, same fetched hash:

You should either sync up from scratch, OR download a fresh blockchain bootstrap, OR enable checkpoint enforcing with the --enforce-dns-checkpointing command-line option

I'm new to monero, last week I started with the CLI wallet, after 24hrs, I had to completely restart the sync.  After that, I downloaded the raw blockchain and started syncing again ( fast mode).  It took forever again, so I installed the GUI wallet.
It has been syncing for 5 or 6 days now, and it seems it failed again (just saw this error in the log).

Is it always such a pain to create or install a wallet?  Is there a simple way to check the balance on the wallet I have?

Re: mining gpu: 4 or 8 GB of RAM?

good advice, thx everyone! Smiley

This topic was discussed alot before , the 4gb cards will be sufficient for not a long time also the resell will be low, if you are building now go for the best resell gpus which are in my opinion the 8gb , 470 is doing good ,
but you may wait for the 570 for best resell it will be out to the markets in couple of days or so , there is ppl already get it .

Thanks for the useful info about the 570 which will be released indeed one of these days.  I think I won't wait for them, they'll probably be more expensive and there does not seem to have changed a lot that would give a spectacular performance gain.

as to the op are you in the uk?
Belgium

I know this may sound  off the wall.
but  go with the nvidia   1070, 1080 or 1080 ti  and mine ZEC coin.
I would even say  if they are too pricey get a nvidia 1060 with 6gb ram
this is decent  for a low end nvidia

Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB Mini GDDR5 Graphics Card - Black
this is the next jump up the 1070
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Nvidia-1070-GDDR5-PCI-E/dp/B01GXZ7Q3Y/ref=sr_1_4?
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1070 G1 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E
mine zec  with them.

Thanks for pointing me out these cards. I checked the prices but they are all more expensive (except  the 1060 6GB ).  To be honest, through what I've been reading about mining, it appeared to me that people were always advising AMD cards to go for if you wanted to mine...  For now, I think my preference would be to go for the RX470 8GB.

mining gpu: 4 or 8 GB of RAM?

Hi everyone,

I'm new on this forum (and new to cryptos).  I'm gonna buy some hardware tomorrow to start mining, I don't want do build a rig but just have 1 (or maybe later 2) GPU in my computer.  I've done some research on what hardware to buy, so far I think I will buy

PSU:
  • Corsair RMi Series RM750i (111€)

One of those GPU's:
  • MSI RX 470 GAMING X 4G (173€)
  • MSI RX 480 GAMING X 4G (187€)
  • MSI RX 470 GAMING X 8G   (187€)
  • MSI RX 480 GAMING X 8G   (221€)

As for the GPU I can't decide yet (and I know there are many topics about the rx 470 vs rx 480 with the 480 havin a 10% higher hash rate), but my main question here is: would it be a shame to still buy a card with 4GB of RAM?  Right now 4 GB seems to be fine for mining (all / most) of the altcoins, but what's the chance that in the near future 4 GB will not be sufficient anymore and the card would be useless?  Or will 4 GB remain sufficient for a long time?

Any advice welcome Smiley
