I've found that the API crashes if you leave the miner status page up in your browser.  I've stopped leaving the page open and only check it periodically.  Seems to help.

If you go to Services > Miner and click save/apply.  It'll restart the miner and the API used by the monitor page.

Thank you for releasing this software.  The installation was well-documented and easy to follow.  I'm getting the same hash rate with 1 amp less of input power.

And thanks Bitmain... for using an unfair advantage.

Re: Internet Security for Mining

Is internet Security for mining a thing?

I was curious if miners use internet security to protect their location? I figured there was a chance of people being able to track back your location. I wanted to see if VPN or other security measures are common practises for miners. Most people these days use internet and other forums of security for their own home. I guess this question relates mostly to off-site mining locations.

With the news of more equipment being stolen from medium-large mining farms in Iceland and other areas there must be a demand for security side protection.

I'd bet that equipment theft is from either obvious tells or loose lips.  Your IP address doesn't provide a street address, and it would only really be known by the pool operator and your ISP.  Your IP address doesn't show up in the block chain unless you're announcing transactions.  Typically, the pool does this for you.

There are other security considerations.  But revealing your IP address to your pool operator may not be one of them.  It probably wouldn't hurt to run through a VPN provider though.

I think many of these operations involve lots of people.  From real estate owners, electricians, property managers, and on and on.  And everyone is proud of Bitcoin and what it has accomplished.  So they're naturally going to be excited about farming and want to share this with others.  If you can resist that temptation, tell your property managers and electricians you're just running a private server cloud, you'd be better off.

Other security considerations, in my mind.  A monitored security system, video cameras storing video in the cloud, and theft/fire insurance and a good firewall with good audit-ability on the logs.

I asked for an itemized breakdown and he just didnt answer back - got more quotes lined up for next week

I wonder how busy he is.  I'm having some electrical work done in my home and quotes are all over the place (spa, 220v garage, rewire heat pump in new conduit).  The one company that's booked out until March has been the highest.  I'm going to have someone I know with an 01 certification do my job as a moonlight for 1/2 the price.  I hate overpaying for plumbers and electricians, especially when it's not that challenging of work.

You could probably do most of the work yourself and just have an electrician terminate the wires.  Use schedule 80 pvc indoors is sufficient and easier to work with than EMT - everyone knows someone that knows someone with an 01 cert.

I'd price out what the supplies cost.

10x - Solid #8 or #6 x 3 wires per outlet @ 20 feet per wire
10x - 50 amp breakers
150-175 feet of EMT
10x - 2 gang electrical boxes.

That's the material list or close?  Price it out at Home Depot.  I think you're way over 500 in materials.  But not 1000s off..

Then you'll know what you're paying for his time.

Also, get at least 3 quotes.

I got the boxes. But will price out the rest on lowes

Cart Summary
Subtotal:   $655.36
Buy 10, Get 10% off   -$7.96
Buy 3, Get 5% Off   -$4.89
Estimated Taxes: ?   $66.82
Estimated Total:   $709.33

The electrican actually messaged me back today and offered to do it for $6000.

I need to get more quotes

Maybe he's trying to take advantage of you because he thinks your a high roller (and maybe you are).

But business is business.  Make him an offer of time and materials, not to exceed $2500, if he can have the work completed by the close of business on Tuesday.  Tell him you've received other quotes that are lower than that number but they can't do the work for 2 weeks or something.

I just got the same email and I am pissed.   I paid them .39 BTC total for 3 units and they will not refund my .39 they will only give me todays exchange rate..

Now they want me to pay them another 6k to get the 821 units..   That is over triple the price I paid them for the original units yet not even double the hash power..

In my eyes MinerWarez is a fraud point blank!!!!!

I am going to tell them to refund my money and the next batch of miners I purchase will be 841s and directly from Canaan. Until the point that the 841 is released I will run what I have purchased from my unofficial vendor who in fact just got a shipment of 160 in yesterday.

For all those who feel the need to comment about the fact that I have purchased from an unofficial vendor save your breath and shove your comments..  Here is a photo of the units we picked up 10 days or so ago..

I'm not sure if Canaan or Minerwarez is being shady.  Either way, there's some fuckery afoot!

I just got an email from minerwarez. they say the price is $2898 each.
so, I bought (2) A741 for $1600 total and they are 7.3TH x 2 = 14.6 TH.
Now I have to pay $2898 for one A821 that gives you only 11 TH.
WTF is this?? we shlould sue them for holding our money and use it.

copy of the emal:
Avalon 821 Purchase update for unfilled December orders:
Thank you again for your patience and understanding.  Canaan has made this special allotment available and, as communicated, this offer is available only for the number of miners previously paid for (i.e. for each Avalon 741 unit ordered, paid for, and not filled in December, customers can order one unit at the discounted rate).
The orders will be sent out in March 2018 and the price per unit is $2,898.00 USD (retail orders will open in April at a higher projected price point).  Customers wishing to order the Avalon 821 will be asked to make full payment by January 31st, 2018.  We look forward to hearing from you by January 15th, 2018.  Any outstanding order not specifying will be refunded for their December 741 order.  All requests for refund will be honored.
Below is the information provided by Canaan Creative for the Avalon 821.  We ask that you remain cordial in your interactions with our staff and with Canaan’s sales team.
Sincerely,
Minerwarez

Let your money speak for you.  Just get a refund.  I guarantee if the situation reversed itself and the cost of miners was lower than what you paid, you wouldn't get a refund for the difference.  I really despise preordering gear after going through the Butterfly Labs fiasco.

I'd rather pay a premium for something in hand than put money on a future purchase.  They're essentially selling mining "futures" that only pays one way (pays them).

If you ask "Will I die?", it means -----> go hire a professional qualified electrician.

Yep.  If you're in the United States, and your structure is insured.  You want to hire a qualified electrician and obtain the necessary permits to perform electrical work, period.

Not a stupid question at all. I do have 200 amp service in the home. I looked at pulling additional service, but electrical code in my area says you can only have 1 entry point into the premise.  I could upgrade my panel from 200 to 400 though. It will be a while before I go to that length.

I may be wrong in this, but I’ve calculated each Antminer S9 pulls a little under 6.5 amps per miner at 220v, which equates to 39 amps for 6. The 6 GPU rigs will pull even less than that, so even with the fans, switch, and other misc equipment, I’ll only be using 80-90 amps max.

Right on, as long as you have space in your panel and you don't exceed 200 amps, you should be OK.  It'd suck to trip that 200 amp breaker from your mains.  All those clocks to reset.  Smiley

Re: How to make rig connect to Wi-Fi in case Ethernet fails?
by

So you have an ethernet bridge between two wifi routers, with a direct, cabled ethernet connection to your miner to the remote side of the bridge.  And you want your miner to connect to the wifi (far side of the bridge) if the bridge goes down?  What kind of miner is this?  You'd probably have to run a scheduled script or have both connections active at the same time.

My recommendation is to always home run a cable to devices that are critical.  Wifi, while it can be reliable, will always have more interference/trouble than a properly cabled connection.

I'm not an electrician, so this may be a stupid question.

But you're allocating 120 amps to mining in your house.  Most homes have 200 amp service and panel.  I'm no math wiz either, but that's 80 amps for your home?  If you have a heat pump, electric range, and dryer.  Aren't you stretching your electrical budget for the rest of the home?

Are you pulling in new service from the street?

Just doing a little more recon on bitfury.shop.

1.  It's behind CloudFlare
2.  Bitfury.com is not behind CloudFlare
3.  http://www.crimeflare.info/cfs.html - reveals an IP address possibly associated with this cloudflare account.

Some CloudFlare-user domains with a direct-connect IP address of  185.145.131.236

bitfury.shop
catherby.pw
ddos.wtf

Hmm..

Then using the leet hacking tool of Google - dolbonavt@gmail.com  email address comes up with some not-so-nice results.

Run, don't walk away from this deal.

Yes BitFury is definitely a very real company.

On there website www.bitfury.com they’ve stated beware of scams here’s our web page addresses.
It doesn’t list BitFury.shop <- this is important.

I’m
Just saying I’d be wary of it personally.

I agree - why is the domain registered from a Russian registrar?  Bitfury has no presence in Russia that I can see.  The photos of the product are also sketchy.  Looks like there are 6 Antminers in a rackmount conversion chassis.

Safe to call scam on this until proven otherwise.

So get a refund and buy 2 S9s for the same price I should’ve been able to get 6 741s at?

That’s the Reneg I’m talking about.

Absolutely. I agree with you, I should have my miners already and that’s the problem. They’re screwing me
In a big way here

So you ordered in October, and expected delivery in early December.  And in that space of time, the demand for miners has spiked and the cost of miners has risen.

And if you'd received mines on time you would have mined X bitcoin.  But right now, you've got nothing but empty promises.

Did you pay with credit card?  If so, I'd check on the timeframe your card issuer will allow you to charge back.  You definitely got the short straw.  I don't know what else to tell you.  Wish in one hand and shit in the other, and which one fills up faster.  You got a shitty deal, but time is money here.
