Re: ● Why Bitcoin is Not Mainstream Yet & my Suggestions! ●

I agree with most of your ideas, but the biggest roadblock to implementing them is organization. Bitcoin is basically a grass roots currency, and as such, lacks organization and leadership. If organization and leadership were implemented, Bitcoin would lose much of its appeal. Kind of a catch-22.

I spend my Bitcoin and I use it to play poker. Most of my Bitcoin expenditures are for Amazon gift certificates. Most of my computers and all my mining equipment was bought with Bitcoin.

Re: Do you still keep a fiat retirement account?

If you are a true believer that be dollar and other fiats are doomed should you then cash out your fiat retirement account for btc, metals or real estate?

I have a Roth IRA with some money in it and I am debating on if I should liquidate that or keep contributing to it for the next 30 years.

That would be foolish. Bitcoin is way too volatile for a retirement account. It's a great speculative investment, but it makes a lousy investment for a retirement account.

Bitcoin is definately not dead, but it's a long way from stable though.

If you need to ask for investment advice in a forum like this, my advice would be to not spend a penny until you've done your own research and know why you are, or are not investing your money. Never take advice from a forum.

Edit: corrected typo.

I know that your intentions are are probably good, but if the only thing that this coin will offer is an insurance policy that nobody will underwrite (and believe me. Nobody will underwrite it), it doesn't have a chance. Even if a miracle does occur and you do find an underwriter, who will pay the premiums?

Re: iGotSpots Scam Dev

In order for a scam to take place, a promise, payment and non fulfillment of a promise or delivery needs to occur.

That's simply breach of contract (or on this case it would be an implied contract). The issue that nobody is addressing is intent. The breach must be made with intent to defraud in order for it to be a scam.

Also, his statement that he would launch 1000 coins and not support any of them takes any implied contract off the table for all subsequent coins (unless he turns around and implies that he will support a particular coin) because he stated up front that he would not support them.

If anybody has significant damages as a result of his actions (or lack thereof) there is probably sufficient grounds for a lawsuit, but there's no grounds for criminal prosecution.

This has been completely debunked.

I have had nothing but excellence across hundreds of trades at Cryptsy.

That's the same thing that GAW said when it was revealed that they were being investigated.

It simply indicates there was a deficit between your perceived skill in investing and reality.

Oh, it's more than that, but I agree with you that it's not a "scam." That word seems to be everyone's favorite word, but it's usually misused. Most "scams" in crypto are the result of incompetence and negligence, but the intent was honest. It's a moot point however. The end result is the same.

Maybe people will finally learn and try doing some research before throwing their money away, but I doubt it.

I have used Doge and Litecoin, but the majority of my transactions are in Bitcoin. Except for trading on an exchange, there is very little use for most altcoins.

Re: How can Alternate Cryptocurrencies Compete with Apple/Android pay?
by
sdmathis
on 02/10/2015, 12:57:07 UTC
Title says it all. It would seem Apple/Android pay may have rendered altcoins obsolete or at the very least, irrelevant. We all know the arguments but the general public. Just. Does. Not. Care.

It's simple. Name recognition = trust.
Apple has name recognition.  Android has name recognition. Altcoins don't.

Honestly, who do you think most people will trust with their hard earned money? A multinational corporation or some sweaty fat guy trying to make a quick buck by cloning coins in his mother's basement in Bulgaria. People don't trust crypto nearly as much as they trust Apple.

Until we stop supporting  the incompetent and dishonest "developers" (we all know who they are) and other blatant scammers, altcoins will remain on the fringe of acceptability and will continue to be useless for anything other than making a quick buck.

Does the above make you a scammer? Probably not, but its pretty borderline the way you handled the entire situation. I don't think the accusation can be totally unexpected.

People like to think of themselves as having been scammed. That way they are victims and are absolved of all responsibility for their losses. If people would only do a little research before investing, most of these losses can be avoided.

Re: How to create a Altcoin?

How to create a Altcoin?

1) I have forked all the files in the source code on https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin

2) Then I have changed the following in the entire source code. I used a search and replace tool.
2a) bitcoin to examplecoin
2b) BITCOIN to EXAMPLECOIN
2c) Bitcoin to Examplecoin
2d) BitCoin to ExampleCoin
2e) btc to eec
2f) BTC to EEC
2g) Btc to Eec
2h) BtC to EeC

3) Then I have changed all of the files names from bitcoinfile.xx to examplefile.xx.

Can I just upload the files onto Github.com? Is there anything else I have to do before hand?

No. You've only scratched the surface. If you want to learn more about creating altcoins, this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1060540.0 has a number of useful links.

Huh why allow them to go on?

Because if they don't allow them, the altcoin section would be empty.

BiPolarBob is Quickseller and that's a fact.

I seriously doubt thar BiPolarBob is QS. If you can show some proof, I might change my mind, but it's going to take some real proof before I can swallow that one.

Great tutorial. It works perfectly. Thank you very much.

I have one question. You stated that some altcoins need QT4 instead of QT5. Do I have to choose just one or the other, or can I install both? Will any problems occur if both are installed?

Thanks.

Re: Is there any chance Dogecoin will ever reach 1 Doge = 0.10$ ?
by

What's the features of dogecoin that could help it to reach to even $0.01 ? really nothing .... so the answer is no unless btc reach to 100 k USD .
It has a logo on a nascar? That is the only thing that I really see it making itself stand out ahead of the pact.

Even an garage on sillicon valley or another place can be enough to start.......

You're not actually comparing Doge to Apple Computer. Are you? Doge is simply a "me too" coin with good PR where Apple is one of the most innovative companies in the world. There is no comparison.

In crypto, Market Cap is irrelevant. A more meaningful indicator might be volume. Looking at 24 hour volume, both Monero and Dash are leading Bytecoin. Number three isn't bad, but it's definately not the mark of a new king.

Doge has shown us all the value of good PR. That's something that the more innovative coins is lacking.

thank you everyone for explaning , specially @Denker , @Sarthak , and lol @crazyjack

What about is there any chances for 0.10$ each doge ? i can wait 5 years

The same thing said some BTC holders at first, They sold early and you know the rest.  Smiley

but there is motherload of difference between quantity of bitcoins and dogecoins

The same that gold and fiat.  Wink

You're deluding yourself if you think that Doge will be hitting that level. The supply of Doge is just too great for the limited demand. The only way that a coin with a massive supply like Doge will ever hit those levels is if the U.S. dollar sees hyperinflation. Even then, the purchasing power won't be much different than it is now.
