Ok, so we have a new dev on the scene for POSv.  Here is the proposal. I am curious what people's feedback is in terms of technical risk and implementation.  Once this looks good we will execute ASAP.  Also would be happy for people to sign up for testing.

Here is the new dev's proposal:

Quote
1. We will use new blockchain. Current one will not be used after migration to POSV anymore. The new one will keep all the balances from an old one. Question: do you also want to re-send transactions with messages which were on old blockchain? This is doable however complicates things.

2. Such setup gives us several bonuses:
- freedom to perform tests for a week or two so people will be able to download new POSV wallets and check if their money is still there.
- we will check if messaging works
- and check how staking works
- you will also have shorter blockchain which speeds up future client installations

3. After tests are finished we will let external parties (exchanges, pools etc) know they need to proceed with wallet update.

Does this mean the CCN folks are not doing the POSV coding? If not, who is doing the coding? What code base will be used? Do they have experience doing this type of blockchain conversion? Will the source be public? What other decisions have been made?

+1

We are working out the details. The code may be based on Noblecoin.  Again we want POSV as the intention is then to contact more solar industry journalists etc. and accelerate grants.  that being said, we want to make sure that PSOV is implement safely so please be patient. If it comes to a trade off of quality & security versus time, it may take more time.

Hi Nick,

I think, time is not a problem for Solarcoin investors  Wink

We are not daily coin traders. Solarcoin is the only altcoin has a real purpose and plan. There are dozens of scammers and dishonest people around. So you can continue as you like, we will support you  Smiley

well as trade2winnn has said he is doing this for pretty much nothing, and gets hardly any donations.

I would like to see VDO have a btc address with 2-5% of ico funds in it, for PR team, keep address and payments all transparent.

Then as a community can decide on how much a month to pay trade2winnn and fonzy if he wants to work with trade2winnn i'm sure he has plenty of ideas and would encourage members to actually join a VDO team. Personally I don't have the time or enough invested to take on such a task.

I think like tw0rak, and hope this is a planned accumulation phase before something crazy happens, time will tell  ; )  either way i like my idea but if ico is gone it can't happen

You basically hit the nail right on the head.

I wont beg for donations, that's tacky.

I will continue to stand by VDO and support it.

My VDO address is posted all over this thread, I have just been accumulating for a while. I will buy them for 300 sats all day long.

Currently Nerio is working a decentralization platform to support VDO. That should be pretty big for VDO.

I have also been working on my own coin and that will drop soon.

I will keep you all posted on newer developments for VDO.

The new wallet will be opened next year or 2016 ?

The truth and clearity of solarcoin is really damaged.  Sad

Next weekend, next weekend ~~~

Is there one week containing 30 days??

Yeah come on bro, this ain't your typical coin thread here on BCT bud!  Please read through the thread to remind yourself just how lucky you are in front of this one man:-)  I could be wrong but I don't think there have been any missed "promises" here to tarnish the project trust either, seems to me those involved with this project have been very cautious as to what they promise and all seem to take great meaning to what they say.

If you've got some Solar Coin stacked up bro, you are a wise man and I am pretty sure we are all aboard a train headed for the stars:-)

We have just been informed that the group that hosts our 4 seed nodes is shutting down immediately.  We will look to find more as soon as possible.  In the mean time, if there are connectivity issues by chance, that is the reason.

That blows..

If several of us keep the wallets open for peering, that should help us get through this, correct?

Yea, keeping your wallets open will definitely help.  It bothers me, cause adding these 4 nodes seem to help the network a lot.  They apparently had significant server problems and are just shutting everything down.  But yes, keep your wallets open - more connections the better.  If anyone knows of a good source of at least 3 nodes - let us know.....

I have a cloud server, Guncoin wallet is always open. Ip address is : 191.238.100.177

Good news SolarCoin community!

All 3 (Mac, Windows, Linux) clients for the 310,000 hardfork are now completed, tested and handed over to the SolarCoin team.  Expect updates and downloads coming soon!

Update: The SolarCoin team has tested the Windows wallet and it's working great. There's a minor kink to be ironed out on the Mac wallet, and hopefully that will be fixed soon and we can release all the wallets this weekend.

Is KGW will be available when the pools updates the code or do we have to wait until block 310K for this too ?

The pool is closed for now, because nobody mined except me  Cheesy I can prepare a new pool when the fork is ready or if developer is experienced about pool setup, I can give server credentials.

Thanks. I'll let you know if the team decides to do this. We're going to start by reaching out to the existing pools and see if they're willing to switch to the fork. I'll post another update as soon as I know anything definitive.

You are welcome  Smiley

As you know I am not a professional pool owner and just trying to help Solarcoin community. I learned how to setup a MPOS pool and Stratum server by reading and trying. If existing pools refuses to switch, I will do my best to help  Wink

Since the ultimate goal is PoS, why favor Option 1 over Option 3?

I vote Option 3, unless for some reason people think Option 1 would lead to a larger price rise.

Option 1 or 1B would produce a couple million fewer coins into circulation, so the price might rise a bit faster and higher. But I don't think it would be a big difference. We might have 33 million coins in circulation when we switch to PoS instead of 35 million, something like that. About 5-10% fewer coins.

Option 3 might give us a somewhat better chance of persuading pools to switch to the fork. But I don't know enough about how pools operate to have an informed opinion about those prospects. Anyone want to weigh in that?

Instead of persuading pools, why don't we setup our own Solarcoin pool with 0 pool fee ? It cant be so hard. If there someone experienced about pool setup, I can provide a server on azure.

I assume you mean for the purposes of forking the coin successfully once the algorithm is done?

Yes exactly.

We can start trying build a pool fot the current algorithm and when the new one is ready, replace it.

Finally I managed to setup a Solarcoin Pool  Grin Grin Grin

I am mining there now and testing block finds and payments. This pool is mostly for learning purposes. When the new source code available, I will update it. If the big pools refuses to upgrade, we can use this pool. If needed, I can give administrator user and passwords to the Solarcoin Board.

It uses a medium size server with 2 cores and 3.5GB ram. I can easily upgrade server later.

http://slrpool.cloudapp.net/MPOS/public/index.php

Is this pool still working? If so, should we use it as a place where our community of miners can mine the fork when it's ready?

Sorry for late answer.

I wanted to give it a shot but I couldn't get passed your pools security. I never got the email. Sad

As I said earlier, I dont have a professional email service. I tried it for Gmail and Yahoo and It worked fined. Maybe you should check your spam folder.

Well done indeed.   I signed up - got the verification email - setup a worker - and then pointed my troublesome GridSeed miners (6Mh ish)  at your pool.  (A wicked test since they seem to be very fussy).

My username is the same as here to avoid confusion.

I am delighted to report that the stratum and vardiff are working perfectly and the little GridSeeds are humming along and the stats look sensible.  Response times are good - well there are only 2 users Smiley.  I shall test the payment system when I get something to send back.

In short - excellent.  Now let's pray you don't get swamped by whales Smiley
