David Drake, founder of LDJ Capital, was the moderator for a match up between Nouriel Roubini and Tone Hays. Drake was quick to note Roubinis prediction of the 2008 economic crisis.

In the discussion, Roubini notes that his experience in blockchain stems from his ability to see a bubble when it exists.

Vays responded with his outlook on the crypto space. Former trader Vays, now a speaker and prominent YouTuber, says he disagrees with Nouriel on the dysfunction of the crypto space. However, Vays maintains that anything besides Bitcoin $7248.45 -0.03% is useless, and anything else is scammy or fraudulent.

Roubini placed a strong emphasis on the tension between institutions and regulations.

Vays went on to compare Bitcoin to nuclear waste if you dont know how to properly store it, disaster may strike. Vays still remains a devotee despite this apparent pitfall.

Roubini held fast, remaining extremely skeptical of crypto. Roubini emphasized numerous pump-and-dump schemes, as well as traders exchanging shitcoins day in and day out.

Roubini says that while 99.9% of cryptocurrencies will fail, Bitcoin is the only crypto that would exist should everything else go haywire. Tone Vays was quick to respond by noting the unconfiscatable nature of Bitcoin if stored correctly, as well as unconfiscatable value transfer.

Roubini quickly back that it is not true they cannot be confiscated, noting economists like U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin who worry that the currency may become the next Swiss bank account. Roubini was extremely skeptical that any modern government, especially the Trump government, would tolerate the anonymity associated with Bitcoin.

During the tail end of the dialogue, Roubini lit into crypto mining, saying that the centralization of mining is a hypocrisy in light of the cryptos decentralized claims.

Neither party pulled any punches, and the match-up led up to a brief talk about mining centralization before wrapping up for good.

Synthetic Bitcoin Is 100x More Lethal Than the Real Thing

Derivatives trading isnt new, but its been enjoying a renaissance of late. As the cryptocurrency market has traded sideways, traders have upped the leverage and rushed to swap BTC derivatives that promise greater risk and reward. While platforms like Bitmex and Deribit have profited from the boom in synthetic assets, many traders have been left high and dry.

Derivatives Trading Is a Hazardous Pursuit With Little Margin for Error
Bitcoin investing is often portrayed as navigating a bumpy road, with each trough and pothole invoking a rallying cry to Hodl and persevere till the finish line. If the analogy is accurate, then derivatives trading is like speeding down that road on a motorbike at 160 mph. One false move a flash crash here; a DDoS there and its game over. Hit a pothole as a hodler and all youll lose is some USD off your portfolio. Do the same on 100x leverage and youll be liquidated on the spot. Trading synthetic assets, particularly on high leverage, is not for the faint-hearted. Nor is it for the inexperienced.

Synthetic Bitcoin Is 100x More Lethal Than the Real Thing
A handful of Bitmex traders have gotten very rich indeed
There are three types of synthetic options available to bitcoin traders: futures, derivatives, and margin. Some platforms, such as Bitmex, Whaleclub, and Deribit, offer all three. Traditional exchanges such as Bitfinex, Hitbtc, and Poloniex offer margin trading only, and then theres the likes of Okcoin which offers futures and margin but no derivatives. Heres how the three options play out:

Futures: A type of derivative contract that can include leverage of up to 100x, futures are an agreement to buy or sell an asset in this case synthetic BTC at a future date for a certain price.

Derivatives: A type of contract whose value is derived from that of another asset. On sites like Bitmex, its possible to trade options, swaps, and futures all types of derivatives with the possibility of higher returns thanks to leverage which multiplies the potential profit or loss, depending on how the trade goes.

Margin: A type of trade in which money is borrowed from a broker with the expectation that they will be repaid upon generating a profit. A minimum level of equity must be maintained on the platform, typically around 30%, to cover losses. If the balance falls below this, additional funds must be covered to account for the shortfall.

Derivatives Can Be Dangerous
Synthetic Bitcoin Is 100x More Lethal Than the Real ThingCrypto Twitter and Telegram channels are filled with tales of woe from leveraged traders who got stopped out and had their position liquidated. If conventional trading is cocaine-like in its addictiveness, high leverage is crack cocaine. One of the biggest gripes for traders, particularly on Bitmex, is those unexpected events that can wreck even the best laid plans. Even experienced traders are taking a huge risk, over and above those associated with bitcoins natural movements. DDoS attacks, downtime, log-in errors, and sudden price spikes have caused traders to lose everything. When such events conspire, there is little recourse, for complaining to the Seychelles-registered Bitmex will get you nowhere.

As discontent with Bitmex has grown, Deribit has welcomed traders with open arms. It professes to offer faster trade execution than Bitmex, but with only 50x leverage versus its rivals 100x. Bitmex is still the whale in the derivatives market by some distance, recording 24-hour volume of 355k BTC versus Deribits 5k. Exchangewar.info notes Deribits lower fees, and there is also less controversy surrounding its margin trading for now at least. No matter how reputable the platform traders choose, or how good its uptime, it should be acknowledged that derivatives trading is a dangerous business in which a handful of pros profit massively and the remainder are lucky to walk away with their initial stake.

Bitcoin Price Key Highlights

Bitcoin price is consolidating inside a rising wedge and is nearing the peak of the pattern.
Price could break out of the formation anytime soon, signaling which direction a longer-term move might go.
Technical indicators are giving mixed signals in terms of bullish or bearish presence.

Technical Indicators Signals

The 100 SMA is above the longer-term 200 SMA to indicate that the path of least resistance is to the upside. This means that the uptrend is more likely to resume than to reverse. These are also near the wedge support to add to its strength as a floor.

However, RSI seems to be heading lower to indicate that selling pressure is returning, even though the oscillator didnt reach overbought levels on its latest climb. Stochastic is also turning lower without hitting overbought territory to signal that sellers are eager to return.

Market Factors

Bitcoin regained ground late last week when the SEC announced their plans to review their decision to reject several bitcoin ETF applications. In their notice, they cited potential price manipulation and fraud in cryptocurrency markets as reason to reject the proposed rule changes but might still be open for more comments.

This could also keep hopes up for the next set of bitcoin ETF application decision due later next month. Any indication that the regulator might be ready to approve these proposals would bring strong gains for bitcoin and its peers in anticipation of stronger liquidity and even more securities tied to the market.

Of course any major changes in market sentiment could also lead to big swings, especially as volatility is expected to return after the US Labor Day holiday.

US SEC to Review Rejection of Nine Bitcoin ETF Applications

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will review its decision to reject nine applications to list and trade various Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs), Reuters reported August 23.

On Wednesday, the SEC disapproved a total of nine inquiries from three companies to bring BTC-based ETFs to market, claiming that the products did not comply with the requirements by the Exchange Act Section 6(b)(5), in particular the requirement that a national securities exchange's rules be designed to prevent fraudulent and manipulative acts and practices."

Shortly after, the SEC released letters stating their intention to review the decision, having delegated authority to take action on the applications. However, the letters do not specify a deadline for the decision nor what the review will entail.

ETFs are marketable securities that track an index, commodity, or basket of assets, that are proportionately represented in the funds shares. ETFs experience price changes throughout the day as they are purchased or sold on a stock exchange. If the SEC allows a BTC ETF, a fund would purchase an underlying amount of actual BTC and distribute those funds into shares, which further are distributed to shareholders.

Last month, the SEC rejected an appeal for a Winklevoss BTC ETF fund by Bats BZX Exchange, Inc. The first application was rejected by the SEC in March 2017, because of the largely unregulated nature of BTC markets.

A day later, SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce published a statement of official dissent from the agencys disapproval of the Winklevoss fund appeal. Peirce argued that the SEC fundamentally erred with its latest decision and that the agency overstepping its limited role, when it focused on the characteristics of the underlying BTC market, rather than the derivative. She suggested that the disapproval order will likely inhibit the institutionalization of the BTC market.

Bitcoin Looks Unlikely To Cross $10,000 Again This Year

July was a solid month for cryptocurrencies overall, with the price of Bitcoin reversing the steady declines seen over the previous two months to hover around $8,200 around the end of the month. This marked a strong recovery from the low of $5,755 seen in late June, but was still well below the all-time high of almost $20,000 last December, and also a good 18% lower than the ~$10,000 figure seen less than three months ago.

Notably, there was a recovery in the level of activity on the Bitcoin network over the month of July, with the average number of unique addresses and the average transaction volume per unique user improving from the lows seen in June. However, with both of these key metrics sliding lower over the first two weeks of August, the price of Bitcoin has slumped to below $6,500. Given the current weakness in Bitcoin trading activity, we have reduced our forecast for number of unique users as well as transaction volumes in our interactive Bitcoin Price Estimator. We now expect the Bitcoin price to settle around $9,500 by the end of the year for our base case scenario down from our earlier estimate of $10,500. The graphic below captures our base case forecast for the monthly average price of Bitcoin this year based on our estimates for transaction volume and number of Bitcoin users, and also shows a possible price range for the cryptocurrency taking into account a relatively bullish as well as bearish outlook for the rest of the year.

Understanding What Drove The Price Fluctuations Over Recent Months

The global cryptocurrency industry has seen a flurry of new developments since December. Many of these developments had a negative impact on the growth prospects of cryptocurrencies, such as restrictions by banks on the use of credit cards to buy cryptocurrencies, and calls by financial regulators across the world for caution while investing in digital currencies (with some countries even banning their use). This sent cryptocurrencies sliding in value from the all-time highs seen in mid-December 2017, as demonstrated by the slump in Bitcoins price from almost $20,000 then to below $6,000 in early February.

However, Bitcoin prices saw a sharp recovery over April and early May, primarily because the traditional financial industry began warming up to cryptocurrencies. While Goldman Sachs became the first investment bank to start a cryptocurrency trading desk, IntercontinentalExchange (which owns the NYSE) reported its ongoing work on a new trading platform that will allow institutional investors to buy and hold cryptocurrencies. As this points to increased adoption of cryptocurrencies in the near term, the good news propelled Bitcoin prices higher.

But Bitcoin prices slumped in late May when Mt. Gox dumped more than 8,200 Bitcoins on existing exchanges, and further in June when two South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges were hacked. In addition to having a negative impact on Bitcoin pricing, these events also dragged down Bitcoin trading activity, as evidenced by a notable reduction in the number of users on the Bitcoin network. The trend reversed in July, though, with renewed institutional interest in cryptocurrencies driving activity levels. This was driven by growing optimism around the SEC potentially approving a Bitcoin ETF.

The SECs approval would make Bitcoin a more accessible investment option for investors globally, and definitely presents a sizable upside for the cryptocurrency. However, little has been able to quell investor concerns about the security of cryptocurrency exchanges over recent months something that we believe will continue to weigh on activity levels in the near future.

What Does This Mean For Bitcoins Price?

Like the price for anything, Bitcoins fundamental price depends primarily on demand and supply. Demand for Bitcoin is primarily driven by two factors: the number of active users, and how much they transact. On the supply side, the number of available Bitcoins is capped, and about 80% of the capped number is already mined. As such, it is sensible to focus on the demand, both in terms of users and transaction volumes. In our interactive Bitcoin Price Estimator, we forecast changes in the number of unique users as well as transaction volumes for each month over the rest of 2018 to arrive at our estimate for Bitcoins fundamental value.

As we detailed above, given the headwinds faced by both of these metrics over the month of August, we expect them to grow at a modest pace over coming months. As a result, we believe that the Bitcoin will very likely remain below $10,000 for the rest of the year.

Bir başka Bitcoin milyoneri daha dikkatle hazırlanmış bir kripto para komplosuna yakalandı. Güney Koreli bir iş adamı, 2.3 milyon dolarlık (2 milyon Euro) Bitcoinini nakite çevirdi. Ancak daha sonra eline geçen banknotların sahte olduğunu fark etti.

Olay, Fransanın Nice şehrinde yaşandı. Hedefe alınan Güney Koreli iş adamı, Singapurda başarılı bir kripto para girişiminin sahibiydi.

İş adamını dolandıran iki kişiden birinin Sırp olduğu tespit edildi. Polis, Sırp adamla suç ortağının kurbanlarını yatırım vaadiyle kandırarak lüks bir otele götürdüğünü bildirdi. Burada gerçekleştirilen görüşmelerin sonunda kurban, Bitcoinlerini transfer etmeye ve karşılığının nakit olarak ödenilmesine razı edilmişti.

Anlaşmadan kısa bir süre sonra paraların tamamının sahte olduğu ortaya çıktı. İş adamına verilen 500 Euroluk banknotlar Photoshop kullanılarak oluşturulmuş sahte banknotlardı. Güney Koreli, kendisine verilen banknotların sahte olduğunu anlamasının ardından olayı polise bildirdi.

Cannesda gözaltına alınan suçlulardan biri, 110,000 dolarlık bir saat takıyor ve lüks bir araba kullanıyordu.

Son dönemde kripto paralarla ilişkili dolandırıcılık olayları hızla artmaya başladı. Yakın zamanda bir Finli milyoner, uluslararası dolandırıcılar tarafından soyuldu. Macaudaki kumarhanelerde gerçek bir finansal değer olarak kullanılacağı öne sürülen bir kripto paraya yatırım yapması için ikna edilince 35 milyon dolarlık Bitcoinini çaldırdı.

ABDnin Kaliforniya eyaletinde yaşayan 21 yaşındaki bir kripto para yatırımcısının, Bitcoin ile kara para akladığı ortaya çıktı. ABD'nin finansal hukukuyla adeta dalga geçen genç hakkında yasal süreç başlatıldı.
Kaliforniyanin Güney Bölgesi Adalet Bakanlığından gelen haberler, kripto paraların kötü amaçlarla da kullanılabileceklerini gözler önüne seriyor. Bu açıdan bakıldığında günümüz para birimlerinin de kötü amaçlarla kullanılabildiklerini değerlendirmek gerekiyor. 21 yaşındaki Jacob Burrel Campos isimli bir gencin karıştığı olaydaki rakamlar ise dudak uçuklatıcı.

Ocak 2015ten Nisan 2016ya kadar geçen sürede genç Burrelin bir Bitcoin alım-satım sistemi aracılığıyla ABDde yaşayan yaklaşık 900 kişiye 750 bin dolar değerinde Bitcoin sattığı söyleniyor.

Burrelin borsada lisansı bulunan bir kripto para satıcısı olmadığı, gencin bir süre yasa dışı yollarla para aktararak kara para akladığı söyleniyor. Bu nedenle genç hem yasadışı para aktarımı yapmaktan hem de kara para aklamaktan suçlanıyor.

Şubat 2015ten Şubat 2016ya kadar Burrelin ABDdeki banka hesaplarından gerçekleştirilen 30.000i aşkın işlemle en az 900 bin ABD doları elde ettiği söyleniyor. Bu miktarı kontrol etmek ve değişimleri gerçekleştirmek için gencin kullandığı platform ise Hong Kong merkezli bir kripto para borsası olan Bitfinex.

Ethereum Price Analysis: ETH/USD Could Accelerate Higher

Key Highlights
ETH price is recovering after trading as low as $282.73 and formed a decent support against the US Dollar.
There is an ascending channel forming with current support at $296 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD (data feed via Kraken).
The pair is likely to rise slowly and steadily above the $300 and $308 resistance levels in the near term.
Ethereum price is showing positive signs against the US Dollar and bitcoin. ETH/USD could accelerate gains above the $308 levels if it stays above $290.

Ethereum Price Support
There was a key downside correction initiated from the $320 swing high in ETH against the US Dollar. The ETH/USD pair declined below the $300 level and traded close to the $282 support level. A low was formed at $282.73 and later the price started an upside correction. It moved above the $295 level and the 100 hourly simple moving average. Moreover, there was a break above the 50% Fib retracement level of the last slide from the $321 high to $282 low.

However, the upside move was prevented by the $308-310 resistance zone. Additionally, the 61.8% Fib retracement level of the last slide from the $321 high to $282 low also acted as a resistance. At the moment, it seems like there is an ascending channel forming with current support at $296 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD. As long as the price is above the channel support and $295, it is likely to move higher. On the upside, an initial resistance is near the $308-310 zone. Above this, the price will most likely break the $320 swing high for more gains.

Ethereum Price Analysis ETH USD

Looking at the chart, ETH price is placed nicely above $295 and $290. More gains are possible if buyers continue to hold the $295 and $290 support levels.

Hourly RSI The RSI is currently placed nicely above the 50 level.
