On Monday we are going to release a new wallet with an update to the rewards system. I have asked for feedback on this in the developer statement and have not yet received any.

A goal in restructuring the algorithm is to shorten the mining time frame but keep the total money supply at 4M coins. Therefore my current thinking is to increase the multiplier in the algorithm in such a way that 4 million coins are distributed in 6 years instead of 600. Here's what it looks like:

(abs(sin((x+600)/200))*1050000.0/(x+600))+(1.0/(x+600))

The bumps will be about twice as big as they are currently and everything is distributed a lot quicker.

If anyone else has other ideas please discuss here. Will finalize Monday and release a new client that will change the algorithm approximately one week from then.

There was a port change, the Tor port was conflicting with machines running a RZR wallet. New port is 9069 which is more sexy anyway.

Please update ASAP, the old client will not be supported by the network after 1 week.

Developer Statement

Hello. My name is Dave Fletcher. I am a robosex addict. [coffee slurp].

I am the developer for RSN. I wanted to introduce myself to you all, tell you a little bit about who's behind RobotSexNickels, and give you an idea of where we are headed into the future.

For the past four or five months I have been following cryptocurrencies with a passion. The ecosystem and communities that are  growing around these currencies is exciting and amazing. Exploring a hot new technology is always a huge priority to me, sometimes to the determent of those around me. My uncle had a watch that he gave to me to play with when I was 10. Keyword "had".

Diving in head first is the best teacher. So I came up with the silly coin name. My full time job is a web design and development partnership with my wife, Laura. The name completely inspired her with a vision, so she went to town with the RSN graphics and website. Meantime I used my ninja C++ foo to make RSN work technically.

At first I attempted to maintain the same secret identity veneer that many cryptocurrency developers adopt. I quickly learned something: I am not cut out for secret identities. Then I asked myself why I was doing that and the only answer I came up with is "if RSN goes horribly wrong, I don't want my name on it". Well, that has changed. First of all, our network is working great, having everything go horribly wrong from the start is no longer a worry. Secondly and importantly, I realized what I should have known since the beginning: making mistakes if fine and expected since I'm just a silly human not a robot. It only becomes a problem if I don't stick around to fix such problems when they arise!

So I now pledge my support for RSN as myself instead of sexyRobot. Some of you know me from running a lottery bot on various IRC channels. If you know me from IRC then you will know that I stand by my software and when it goes wrong ensure everyone is fairly compensated. This holds true of RSN also - I will not abandon it. You can find Laura, that's nagzter, and myself, Dave, in #robotsexnickels on freenode IRC.

Let's talk about the future of RSN.

First the block rewards. I was having some experimental fun when I came up with the structure. The reward has dropped too low too fast. A short term goal is to rework the rewards to distribute those funds earlier. This will take a wallet update and there will be at least a week of notice. I am keen to hear feedback before we start.

Secondly, let's create a purpose for RSN. Hot in development is the Robot Sex Nickel slot machine.

We have more long term plans on the horizon, stay tuned!

Update 9/26/2014 mining rewards are changing, everyone please update your wallets ASAP. On block 33660 which should occur sometime near next Tuesday, block rewards get 100 times bigger! Originally we had kept the money supply low in an effort to achieve some scarcity. But this hasn't kept miners around and hasn't driven any buy support. So let's have some fun! Robot Sex Nickels for everyone! Fire up those Scrypt miners next week.
