Re: Not all cryptocurrencies are "currencies"

People turn part of their company to crypto because they want to have more money. ICO is not regulated so any team/company is able to do it.

Small companies don't have capital and time to create their own blockchain, so they use tokens, most popular one is ERC20 tokens, run on ETH blockchain.

Yes right. But those tokens are noway to be treated as same crypto currencies.

Not all cryptocurrencies are "currencies"
by

There is big misconception among the people about Crypto Currencies.

Not all cryptocurrencies are "currencies". Yes, some are currencies, including Bitcoin, Zcash, Dash, and others. But most are not.

Let's take this example there's a series of new technologies that effectively enables companies to tokenize what were previously called “frequent flier miles” or other types of customer engagement tools or rewards. Customers can buy or earn these rewards and then use them to get goods or services from the companies distributing them. Now we don’t call companies that issue frequent flier miles “frequent flier miles companies”. We call them airlines, and recognize that they have frequent flier miles as a feature. That’s what most cyrptocurrency/utility tokens are.

That’s what most cyrptocurrency/utility tokens are. Every day, more and more companies are tokenizing parts of their customer interaction. But that doesn’t mean their currencies. And it certainly doesn’t mean that the value of other companies that are tokenized should go down. They are simply issuing tokens for their services which you can redeem later and these token are fixed for their service.

Most people don’t understand Crypto yet, including me too. It’s dense and confusing and takes real work to understand. But problem starts when these people go to governments or to decision makers pain the whole picture in red.

Re: Are heavy fees and transaction delays in BTC causing crypto market to fail?

Your question is more economic than technological  correct?
The best deal is direct selling(p2p) using online sellers " local bitcoin "and pay cash.

These companies/sites use the highest fees to ensure that the payments will be received as soon as possible and guaranteed
Hmm not really you know why because any crypto payment starts with these exchanges from fiat money to crypto, only then comes p2p transactions.

On Kraken, you can buy quite a lot of major crypto directly with fiat.  So I don't think that this matters.  Moreover, if you buy "BTC" on an exchange, you are actually only buying an exchange IOU.  Nothing happens on the block chain, and no miner fees are paid for.  The fee is only paid when you "withdraw" your coins, that is, when you nicely demand your exchange, to send you real BTC or other when you try to redeem their promise (the IOU).  Until then, no real crypto coins are handled, all this is just on the web site of your exchange.
So if you buy a BTC IOU, and you then exchange that BTC IOU for Zombie Coin IOU on the same exchange, I don't see how the high fees on the BTC block chain that has nothing to do with this, has anything to do with what you're doing.

Of course, if you want to buy BTC on exchange 1 and send it to exchange 2, you have to pay twice a block chain fee.  This is why it is a bad idea to use BTC for that.  Use something like LTC or BCH or another cheap fee coin, it is much cheaper.  The actual price of LTC doesn't matter.  The only thing that might matter is the volatility between you exchanging your BTC IOU into a LTC IOU, withdrawing them, receiving your LTC from exchange 1, and you depositing your LTC on exchange 2, and exchanging the LTC IOU into a BTC IOU.  LTC being a very fast chain, the price change (the volatility risk) should be small.   You are only exposed for about 10 minutes or so to LTC volatility.  Whether LTC trades at $1 or at $1000, doesn't matter at all.  The amount of BTC you had on exchange 1 will be close to the amount of BTC on exchange 2 ; if the two trade fees on the exchange are small compared to the BTC block fee, you win on fees, it is faster and smoother.

Thank you so much, really I never thought of this instead of sending BTC directly we can covert to any other coin and send it and later convert back to BTC to cash it, it makes transactions faster. Thank you so much. I like the idea.

I concede that the concept of probabilistic payments probably has been "on the shelf" for a while and not much has happened.
However, the concept has recently resurfaced in conjunction with the Lightning Network.

Take a look at the following paper:
https://courses.csail.mit.edu/6.857/2017/project/7.pdf

Wow the solution is already here...!!! its not implemented? or who is stopping this? I really don't know how it works if there is consensus they should for lightning network.

But really can someone tell how this decision making thing works? like who decides what technology should be implemented or rejected specially in case of Bitcoin issues?

It depends. How long are you planning on holding anyway? If you're not planning on selling soon, then why bother? Dips and crashes has happened multiple times in the past, and will definitely happen a lot more times in the future. It's just up to you if you're patient enough to stay invested. After all, bitcoin is a long term investment.

Yeah actually not other option except to hold... yes I noticed like it goes down in start of year but will rise back to normal. Only thing which bothers is there were claims that bitocin will be upto $40000 in 2018.. well lets hope it does Smiley

What is your cryptocurrency portfolio and in what ICO tokens have you invested your savings?
It`s not your fault. The entire crypto market went down.Just don`t sell anything and HODL.
I think that there is a correlation between the bitcoin price and token prices. The token prices increase every time the bitcoin price goes down, and they decrease every the btc price goes up.I might be wrong ,but i had some Viberate tokens last year and i sold them at the wrong time.
Don`t trade ,if you don`t have trading skills.

Well currently i hold like this
BTC: 0.161
LTC: 2.0
ETH: 0.212
XRP: 710
ADA: 770
XLM: 500
SC: 1500
XDN: 1500
ENG: 22

About $1500 in different ICOs (Mark.Space, WePower, Digitex)

Yeah i guess i'm really bad at trading and don't have skills in it. So I should stop the trading game and just wait and watch.

No need for panicking about the value of our portfolio now because greater days are ahead. Cryptocurreny business is a green horn. Therefore, it is even better to invest in now so that the future will be assured. Buy into more promising icos if you can and this is the time to go for it.
hahaha thank you for advice bro... but no way Smiley i'm not investing more I will wait at least until I get back to break even Smiley

Re: Will bitcoin continue to fall to $ 6,000$-5,000$???

Will bitcoin continue to fall to $ 6,000$-5,000$?
Yesterday bitcoin has fallen below  10,000$. Today bitcoin continues to fall deep down to 8,200$ and possibly more.
I bought bitcoin at 15,000$. Who can advise me to keep or sell bitcoin at this time? Will bitcoin continue to fall to 6,000$-5,000$? what should I do? please.. Sad Sad
yes... i guess $5000 is and ideal price for BTC, I also bought some when it was $15,000 but I had some fraction when it was below 8k. Well I'm keeping it.

Why? Reason is you will need it later for any ICO or if you decide to buy any other crypto currency.

No, fees aren't charged as a percentage. It's misleading to present it this way.
Yes, I agree 100%, presenting fees in percentage is wrong. But I calculated for per my transactions buying crypto using fiat money. Also if we talk about average online transaction amount let say on visa is 60 Euro or 75USD from 2010-2015. We can assume similar average amount people would be spending in crypto currencies too. Keeping this in mind fees are very high.

1. Abstract the transactions away into a different protocol layer (i.e. off-chain payment channel networks)
2. Improve the scalability of transaction verification to increase the capacity of the on-chain protocol layer
Well to be honest yes we all know scalability is one of the reasons but why we haven't had the solution already? Even if there are solution in some crypto currencies but those all coming with big question marks already.
Can ripple be that currency? Because I heard it addressed such scenarios again at the same time many experts not even ready to call it a crypto currency but kind of fiat with label of crypto currency.

Doesn't it look like we are still far far away from such ideal scenarios? like we have in form visa and credit card payments.

How to manage Crypto Portfolio or track crypto investments?
by
shahzadafzal
on 05/02/2018, 10:30:13 UTC
Can please somebody guide how to manage crypto portfolio? Are you using any software or website to track all your investments?

Due to large number ICOs and different crypto exchanges its difficult to remember unless you login to each website and check individually.

I was using https://www.cryptocompare.com/portfolio/ but its very complex and very difficult. Does not show overall investment have to check each transaction separately which is not helpful.

If anyone aware some of other website please let us know. Thank you.

I watched my $5000 metamorphose to $2075 :(
by

on 05/02/2018, 11:18:15 UTC
Forget investing in land or gold... bitcoin is the real game..  that was OCT-2017.

I started poring my small savings into crypto and for last 4 months I have invested $5000 on and off and did not get a chance to cash out a single penny. Just kept buying different crypto currencies and ICOs.

But as of today if I calculate all my crypto empire its valued $2075.

Where did I go wrong?

I'm sure no body scammed me.. I did all my prior research before buying any crypto currency or investing into any ICO. But still I lost $2925.

Is it only me or all of us (new comers) have similar story. Yeah we missed the honey-moon period of bitcoin but it would go this bad, I never thought of it Smiley
