Actually, the return which these two will give in future depends on a number of factors. For instance, there is news that Google is going to ban crypto related ads and this will affect the prices of both bitcoins and ethereum negatively. If there are improvements in ethereum scaling issues, it may even take over bitcoins. If it is able to do so, you will see dramatic increase in the price. Thus my advice is even if you go with bitcoins, invest at least some money in ethereum as well for diversification.

What you see as a good opportunity to make money is affecting the bitcoin community negatively in the long run. Suppose, you were a new investor and someone told you that bitcoin investment is very profitable. Now you invested $10000 in one bitcoin and the price dropped to $8000 in next one week. Now, if you have not seen the past stats and are not aware of the fact that bitcoin prices are very volatile, you will just panic. In such a situation, you will not invest in future and also spread negativity about bitcoins based on your experience.

Just look at the post you made, it is even hard to get the complete meaning. You do not care about spelling mistakes or even where to start and end the campaigns. With this quality, it is not hard but impossible to get merits. Better improve your content, make some posts and then pass a judgement regarding merit system.
I think this is fair, it will make people more active and meaningful than spam, and this is probably the way to make bitcointalk the leading forum for bitcoin and digital money. Great people and excellent
Yes, that is what the admin wanted to achieve with the merit system. Most of the new members are trying to point out negative aspects instead of working on their posting quality. Also, we are seeign some members abusing the system and once they are recognized and then punished, we would be able to see a more clear picture.

Nice to see , everyone suggesting changes to the merit system as per his or her own convenience. No one is really concerned about the forum and whether it is benefited by the merit system or not. I think the admin should make hings more strict for spammers with future changes and never ask for any suggestions from members here before making those changes.
How do you deal with 20% plus drops. Do you try to sell at the top and buy back in? are you a hold on for dear lifer?
Such drops can be hard to digest for new investors. They start investing with the hope that their money will only increase after the investment. Personally, I have become used to these price falls. On the current local exchange I am using frequently I see drops of $200-$300 in minutes but it still does not makes me panic. I know that this is common as we keep getting mixed news related to bitcoins from all over the world. If the prices are not volatile, we will not be able to see those amazing spikes as well.

1) You are right about this, the signature campaigns gives them early exposure and helps to gain initial users. They can show this while applying to a potential investor.
2) It is obvious that any project being advertised here will attract a lot of eyeballs. Main thing is how many of people convert.
3) This being a tried and tested method, developers are now not scared to spend on this. They are giving away some tokens for free but it is still an added cost to them. Those coins could be worth thousands of dollars later when the over all value rises.

This option is available on most of the forums but it requires messaging the admin. Since, the staff here is busy with a lot of work, they might not have the time to fulfill these requests. Also, I think if some members do this. a lot of other members will also start making such requests even if they do not need it. Simple solution to the issue is to start with a new account with desired username but you will have to start from scratch.

I would truly hope that merit sources are not involved in selling/trading of merit because that would defeat the purpose of it.
They are picked by the admin and thus there is very less probability of that happening. Also, since number of merits and the person giving those merits is displayed and thus it will be hard for them to cheat as well. Admin can remove their privilege if needed.
we can share smerit each other with your comments that you think are good quality post. I think in this case everyone doesn't mind because we help each other. because usually just rank FM upward get many smerit (just my opinion)
That is considered as abuse. You should not exchange merits with each other. This can also be seen as a sign as both accounts are operated by one individual and those accounts may get tagged.

This is done mainly because members see most of the posts in meta section getting merit points. Initially when the system was launched, members were not aware about using smerits wisely. This is the only reason why there were posts getting 10-20 merits in meta section. Some members are trying to copy same approach for merits.
You can sit here all day if you want and discuss with yourself whether or not I deserve merit. My point is, that I was 8 activity away from getting Full Member 2 weeks ago, then this update came out, and now I am months, maybe even years from getting Full Member. This update might be good for some users that are already high up in ranks, but for others, it is nearly impossible.
Don't you think if the admin feels that the current system is too harsh for the members, he will make some changes. He already ensured that the old members do not suffer otherwise he should have made everyone start from fresh.
The merit mechanic is great. It encourages users to post well to rank up. Maybe in the future signature campaigns can pay out using Merits instead of BTC Thats something I think merit sources could be used well for.

It is good to have merit sources appointed by admin. Giving all those powers to members here can result in abuse. If we start getting 10 smerits for 10 merits we receive, just imagine how easy it will be to transfer merits between alt accounts. From account A to account B and then from account B to account C.
I joined before the merit system was introduced and have got all merit points from members. It feels really nice that I achieved this in short time. I gained the merit points earlier only and was stuck mainly because of activity. I really that all the senior members who noticed my posts and gave me the merits. I also encourage new members not to give up. Reaching the member level is not that hard. If you make those 60 posts with more effort, you will get more than 10 merits for sure.

Admin has not mentioned such a change in the official thread and comments. However, if this is introduced, it will be good for the forum. It will compel legendary members to also post quality content if they want to rank up. However, a better solution in my opinion is that all ranks should have requirements like getting fixed number of merits per year or they loose the current rank.

There is one more demerit of this approach. By banning new member making low quality initial posts, you are just eliminating the chances for him to improve. There is strong probability of a person improving his post quality after learning the rules here. For instance, suppose a member joined for signature campaigns. Later, when he applies for one, he notices that the manage is approving applicants only with good profile. He will then be forced to improve and we can see more effort being put in his posting here.
Some of us doesn't have an ability to give a merit right now but we can help our fellow member to commend a quality post. However, no one shall recommend his/her own post and that thread were specific for post recommendation only then let those kind hearted members to validate your suggestions.

There are a number of people giving away merits to other new members. You can quote your posts and apply there. As per your suggestion, you can add the quotes of another member as well. As the main purpose of the thread is to reward members with quality contributions. Nice to see a member thinking about other members here as well even after so much competition.
