I think you should try to inquire as to what malicious behavior it contains.  It sounds to me like they are reselling rebranded software and have no clue what they are talking about.  I was able to get Symantec and GFI to reclassify the previous version as a potentially unwanted tool, which is accurate, unless there is behavior that would classify it as something else.

Sent them an email asking them to clarify.  Will see what they respond with...

Got a response from them:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

The file is riskware and the detection could be renamed to SPR/BitcomMiner.A. The new detection will be available with one of the next VDF updates.

For further questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Shaps, that's not the best algo.  The cryptoasm_x64 is the best algo.  You're using either the C miner or 4Way.

d3m0n1q_733rz, when I check --help, the only options for algo are c, 4way, via, cryptopp, cryptopp_asm32 (and auto).  If you try to specify "cryptoasm_x64" you get an "Unknown algorithm" error.  Am I missing something?

Since we are on the topic of CPU mining, I do have a question:

On my Core2Duo laptop, win7
CGMiner (best algo): 2.1 MHash
Ufasoft: 6.0 MHash

On my Core i7 laptop, win7
CGMiner (best algo): 9.3 MHash
Ufasofr: 15.7 MHash

I obviously realize that these minuscule compared to what a GPU does but I'm curious what there is such a large performance difference.

ckolivas - any idea why?

I also contacted Avira to report a false positive for the latest version (0.20) and got the below response.

Ufasoft, if you want the miner to be trusted and used broadly please release the source for the latest version (current available version is 0.10) and build instructions/environment for windows/linux.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

The submitted file does not show a false positive detection by AntiVir. It does indeed contain malicious behaviour, the detection is correct.

For further questions don't hesitate to contact us.

v1.5.6: cryptopp_asm32 seems to think it is doing around 50MHash on a Core2Duo.

[noob question]  Besides a GPU rig I also run a miner on my core2duo laptop sometimes just for fun (cpu only).  I've noticed that ufasoft does around 3x - 4x the Mhash that CGMiner does.  Any idea why or how I can get CGMiner to match the performance?

@ufasoft, are u planing update to support nvidia gpu's?

+1

I think one of the best aspects of this miner is the fact that it "just works" without having to specify any options.  It figures out how many threads to launch for CPU mining and if you have an ATI GPU it mines on that as well without specifying any args which deviate from the defaults.  Besides that, it's VERY efficient and VERY small.

It would be "complete" if it also had CUDA/Nvidia support built in and automatically detected the appropriate GPU mining algo to run based on whether an Nvidia or ATI card was present.  I run this on my ATI machine but on my Nvidia box I run puddinpop CUDA along side.  It would be nice to just have ufasoft across the board.

Any chance this is in the plans?

I wonder if something less rudimentary is better?  For example, paying a 0.01 BC fee to remove noob title?

I want to install a client on a multiple machines but other's have access to them as well.  Is it possible to connect to a pool like deepbit with username only to credit the right account with the work but not include the password so it is not exposed?
