So here's a question, what's the lifespan on this thing? I mean the concept is great. And there's always going to be start ups in IT that need money, but is Leancy ever going to get so big that more investments won't be needed? What happens then?

A fair warning to everyone, if you're using bitcoin be sure to deposit the exact amount you told them you would deposit on the actual website. Especially online wallets with fees and the ones that like to round the numbers. I'm going through the support process and it is an absolute nightmare.

Made the same mistake, but support has sorted it out pretty quickly. They did berate me for allegedly "using the wrong BTC address", though Wink

But yes, if you don't type in the very exact amount, your deposit won't go through.

Thought I'd post an update, I put in the support ticket last night. It was a decent amount of money I invested, so I wasn't exactly happy it was just out there floating the in the internet abyss. I woke up this morning and got an email from Leancy Support; "Hello, Corrected and Confirmed. Thank you for using Leancy." At 4:10 in the MORNING. Very impressed. It should take 3 weeks or so to get my investment back! Exciting stuff man!

Personally I would never put that much money into any exchange to begin with. I have a decent amount invested but I'm not gonna lose the farm if something tanks. I know prices are dropping pretty low right now but just try to remind yourself how volatile this market is. It's insane. There will be ups and downs, but do yourself a favor and HOLD. Seriously, Bitcoin isn't going anywhere. At least give it a couple more months. See if I'm right about the next bubble  Wink

Update: Mt. Gox is officially dead. Start watching for the rebound. If the price/BTC exceeds the pre-mt.goxbullshit average of around $800 the bubble has started. Sell as soon as you see a worthwhile profit, because the "pop" will sneak up on you.

Umm no I looked at the history, never before bitcoin was banned worldwide from the largrst economies in the world. Never before 1 million customers lost 90% value of their btc in box and after mallebility bug ppl lost confidence in bitcoin foundation devs who r doing nothing

"The lesson from the Internet is, anything that China bans, invest in it," Wilson said Tuesday, seemingly half in jest. But he backed up his comments on his blog, noting that: "My point being that the services China likes to block are the really important ones that have been built on the Internet." He's referring to the country's bans on citizens' access to Facebook and Twitter--both of which, from a venture-capital perspective, would have been great bets. - http://www.inc.com/christine-lagorio/fred-wilson-bitcoin-predictions.html

And Mt. Gox was shit from the beginning. What happened was wrong, but anyone who loses confidence in Bitcoin because they lost confidence in an exchange literally named Magic the Gathering Online Exchange needs to go.

you say that the price will "return to normal value."   What is your assessment of what the "normal value" of 1 btc?  By the sound of your post, it seems like you are meaning that the ATH is the normal value?

Sorry, normal is the wrong word there. I just consider the price with Mt. Gox weighing it down to be abnormal. Basically whatever number we land at when the Mt. Gox situation is done would be "normal." 2 month's after that, I think we'll start to see a bubble.

My prediction for a comeback
by

on 25/02/2014, 02:42:11 UTC
Hey all, just wanted to share my theories on what could happen in the next couple months. My belief is that most of Bitcoin's price increases are self fueled. The media is a key factor in this process but is not what initiates price increases. Not as of yet, anyways.
Read: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25332746

To me it's obvious that Bitcoin has too much momentum as of now to be stopped. Even with the markets incredible volatility, and the slump we're in now. I think a full comeback is pretty much guaranteed. There's just too much hype. The only reason the price is down right now is Mt. Gox and thats it. Once that mess it sorted out, I believe we're actually due for another bubble to start up. After Mt. Gox dies off or gets sorted out or whatever, the media will draw positive attention to Bitcoin's return to normal price on other exchanges. Then, just like before, more people will invest, more people will speculate, the bubble will grow, the bubble will pop. That's pretty much whats been happening this whole time anyways.
Remember that we've gone through price declines of this magnitude plenty of time's in the past. Since December 13, 2014 we've seen a 43% decrease in price, with ups and downs in between. But let's not forget about all the other times we've seen price decreases much much worse. April 10, 2013, a 61% decrease in price. We didn't think we were coming back from that but hey. Look where we went. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/timothylee/2013/04/11/an-illustrated-history-of-bitcoin-crashes/)

This decrease is for a strictly temporary reason as well. Mt. Gox is temporary. Someone will be along to replace them, people will move on. No doubt it's a setback for all of Bitcoin, but a comeback is almost definitely happening.

If the bubbles are on any sort of schedule at all, I think the next one will start in about 2.5 months. I used google trends as an indicator of interest and media attention, and put that on a graph of the bitcoin price. The graph is from Coinbase. The green is the bitcoin price and the blue dotted is the google trends. It's nothing crazy, but I think it serves the purpose. You should look at it as the media/interest dependent on the price of Bitcoin, NOT the price of Bitcoin dependent on the media/interest.

http://i57.tinypic.com/30j20zt.jpg

So in summary, don't worry (except for Mt. Gox users, shoutout to you guys). The price will rebound from Mt. Gox, and soon after we should see a bubble occur. The bubble, I think, will happen give or take 2.5 months after this rebound. So definitely some sort of sustaining price increase by early April, save any more Mt. Gox cluster fuckings.

Only joined this site today, tell you what I ain't half seen some funny things. This being one of them.
Curious as to whats funny about people seeking help with addiction, depression and other things anonymously. I'm gonna go out on a limb here. Just because you don't have a need for help doesn't mean others don't. But not that you would know that because apparently it's all funny. I mean really, what a selfish thing to say.

Building this rig - Is it worth it ?
by
shotsoffxx
on 20/02/2014, 18:08:59 UTC
I'm building a high performance PC to mine while I'm away at work. I don't need anything crazy, If I could bring in even just $20 - 30 dollars a week I'd be satisfied. So like 4 or 5 bucks a day. My question is, with the difficulties what they are is this still a possible thing? I mean, if I mined using a really nice GPU would that be enough to make that amount of money? And of course I would have a decent cpu as well, but that's not as important. I'm not worried about electricity either.

Am I wasting my money building this? Is an ASIC rig basically my only solution?
Any suggestions for someone starting out? I've got a starting budget of about $200 - 300 dollars. I can increase that budget by making money once things get going.

Thanks

High Performance Graphics Card (My friend is giving me one for a discount that puts out a little over 2GH/s)

Red flag - research before you buy, regardless of the discount.

I should've mentioned, this friend is local. He's just got a whole bunch of random computer tech laying around the house. He's letting me "test drive" pretty much whatever I want before I buy, which is great.

I'm in the process of putting together a high performance pc with a killer gfx card.
Right now I'm looking at:
High Performance Graphics Card (My friend is giving me one for a discount that puts out a little over 2GH/s)
Any Decent CPU
A fairly modern fan/cooling system
A Decent Hard Drive (Getting 1 500gb for free)
High Performance/Energy Saver Power Supply - $30
Any Decent Motherboard - Really hope to get this as a hand me down from my friend

The mining set-up for a pc is no doubt unique. You have alot of power here, as far as GPU goes anyways. My question is, are there any other GPU intensive tasks that I could be doing aside from Mining? I might want to have a few different ways to make money. Processes similar to mining, or rendering a video. They require power and time. But most importantly, reward you with money!

Any ideas?

Thanks guys.
