Re: CoinTracking - Profit/Loss Portfolio and Tax Reporting for Digital Currencies
by

Looks like Tax is a fairly new feature here.  The main challenge I have is that the details around purchases and income are a little light.  On a purchase, it's important to note whether it's a Gift, Charity, a Purchase, Stolen or Lost , also with the feature of auto determining fair market value at that date/time.  Then auto tracking an address and marking it as income for DASH would be amazing.  I'll be using json in the comment field until this can be added as a workaround.

Thanks for all your work!

Re: Why Litecoin will always be a top 2 Crypto

Well, most these numbers are just a gut value and is more of a relative ranking between the currencies than an absolute of a what a perfect community is.  But basically I was going for ranking the total number and how active the members are.  LTC is bigger than NXT and Bitshares but smaller than BTC.  But as I said since this is based on only my own knowledge feel free to adjust the numbers and come to your own conclusion.  The exercise was helpful for me I think to quantify my own rankings.

Simple comparison

Attribtues that I think lead to long term success.

Network:  1-5  users/merchants/install base
Mining Power: 1-5 Security gains by the mining power
Features: 1-5 How many features, multisig, HD, web, distributed assett exchange, turning complete language, aliases, voting, anonymous transactions, digital goods store.
Community: 1-5 How active and involved the community is.
Ease of Use: How easy to use, 1 is only programmers can use, 5 is mom and dad ready.

BTC:
Network:  4
Mining Power: 4
Features:  3 ( based on the fact that counterparty is built on top of BTC)
Community: 5
Ease of Use: 4
Total: 20

LTC Value:
Network:  3
Mining Power: 3 (This may be one of LTC's strong attributes is that people with invested mining equipment don't have many better options)
Features:  1
Community: 4
Ease of Use: 3
Total: 14

Bitshares
Network:  1
Mining Power: 5 (Because it's PoS)
Features:  4
Community: 3
Ease of Use: ? , estimated a 3
Total: 16

NXT
Network:  2
Mining Power: 5 (Because it's PoS)
Features:  4
Community: 3
Ease of Use: 4
Total: 18

(Feel free to update the values to whatever you think best, I filled them in to the best of my knowledge.)

LTC has no driving force for user adoption.  What is the motivation for an end user to have an LTC wallet?  Right now it's used just for price speculation.   LTC is not different enough from BTC in my opinion to drive user adoption.  Just download NXT to see what a huge difference it is and how when the market is hungry for an alternative to BTC (several years down the road), when LTC is compared to what else is out there I think it's going to lose.

I used to have half my holdings in LTC as of 3 weeks ago.  I moved it into the 2.0 protocols, NXT, counterparty, bitshares.

Thanks!  Hopefully they are helpful to the community.

I did try to hit all the items in the requirements list.  I broke it into multiple videos and didn't follow the exact order but I think it's all in there.  I'll post a link later today with downloads for all the videos.

your registration has been confirmed.

I'm curious as to how a file upload is supposed to help with weeding out people trying to create multiple accounts.  And using the id is just a way to weed out people who don't read the directions very closely...  Kinda weird, but hopefully Kora can execute on building a successful platform.  When is it planned to hand out the nxt assets?  If there is a fixed target # of initial participants then the distribution amount should be fixed as well and assets could be distributed as people are verified.   Although, it may be more fair to distribute all together as then everyone has equal time frame to buy/sell assets if they wish.

If they feel they can switch with minimal loss in output they will switch.  Otherwise they won't.

There should be an open protocol that can help coordinate people who want to coinjoin.  Is there already something else out there that can automate that?

Re: Why do scammers scam?
by

I think there are a lot of parallels to ponzi schemes throughout the years.  A lot of ponzi schemes start at completely legitimate operations.  And then at some point along the path hardship causes people to dip into the reserves/holdings with the thought they can pay it all back.  But then circumstances arise or markets fall enough to push these past where they can hide and everything gets exposed.  I think some of the things in the BTC are just up front plain old scams.  However, it may be the case in the exchanges that some of them died in a similar manner.  Exchanges are under pressure to grow and handle greater trading demands.  If they don't have enough external funding it would be tempting to use account holder funds to help fund infrastructure expansions with the goal of just paying it back with transactions fees later.  However, it the market swings wildly this can get exposed.  Seeing that the end result is the same one has to just decide whether it was intentional or if it was just incompetence which turned criminal.

Re: Split block reward to reduce miner variance
by
sile16

The problem is the proof of work is tied to the transaction that sends the block reward.  So, there isn't an obvious way to generate a coherent block using multiple proof of work solutions.  So, the ways to make the block reward more granular means more blocks more often.  However, there is a tradeoff as each block has additional overhead.  So if you change from 10minutes to every 1 second the amount of additional network / computation / storage would make running the protocol much more challenging.   So, there is the trade off.

yes, distributed among 70-80 people initially.  Which sounds bad, but it was available for trade immediately after and you could pick up large sums of it even if not in the original group.  Also, the end result distribution doesn't look much different than BTC.

Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death)
by

I've thought that the transaction volume would eventually get so high that the Bitcoin block chain is stressed to the point people are paying higher than the minimum fee to get transactions processed and that pressure would be the motivation to move latterly into other coins such as litecoin.
