Have to say, after a long absence from crypto currency, I've just got back into it and after doing a few days worth of research, this altcoin looks like the most solid offering out there: an active & transparent management team, undergoing development, conferences, a good name, nice web site, etc. I'm backing this guys to get to at least 10M market cap in the near future, well done Smiley

Big drop without comment, with 70 geo nearby Grin

Woah dude 1000 GEO drop!! That's worth like 0.15 btc or about $60 USD! And probably a lot more in the future. That's a huge win for some geocacher. All you gotta do is walk to that location.. wish I were in Newcastle..  Sad

And how do you get to the pitch on St. James' Park?! haha. How close do you have to be to the coin? Just curious.

For example, the way I made my decision for life altering is talked about in my blog post.

So, techie, how did you get hacked?

It may be meaning lost or misconveyed in text but are you trying to be a slight asshole by writing that? You could have just said:

"So, how did you get hacked?"

Yes, I was being sarcastic. Nevertheless, I would still want to know how did you get hacked as I didn't spot the attack vector in the text you referred to.

You really expect me to give you details after you insult me? Don't really know what brought it on....

Re: The first alternative currency to hit $1 million? Bitbars
by

My two main concerns, a $10,000 value on coin on bitbar would put off a lot of people, it only needs to grow 20x to get there.

Also, its not really that special, as one bitbar can be divided into infinitely many parts so really, its not that scarce. As opposed to a gold bar, which cannot be divided smaller than a small drop otherwise you wouldnt see it.

Now, I never went long on bitcoin so its slighty different. The similarity is I had the choice to hold a position and wait for it to double again (ive doubled at least 3 times in the last week), or cash out. I chose to cash out even though it will hardly leave me any extra cash, just because getting rid of any debt is so fucking awesome.

So my point is, give priority to #1... maybe go a bit above 1, so you have some coins left over that you keep going long on in case they go up in value even more. (eg cash out 75-90% and retain a 10% position).

Good luck.

One of them is bound to eventually become the real #2, or #1. it doesn't have to be bitcoin and litecoin up there. Look at MySpace, came crashing down hard and things like twitter overtook it. Thing of one of these alt currencies as the up and coming twitter.

Re: Mining programs contain malware? Should i be worried?
by
simplydt
on 28/11/2013, 23:16:37 UTC
Historically, bitcoin mining software is similar to botnet software using the computing power of unsuspecting users maliciously. In order to combat this, antiviruses generally block code appearing to be a miner or related software.

As you can see, the signature name, "PUP.Optional.BitCoinMiner" shows that the antivirus recognized this mining program as a PUP(potentially unwanted program) that mines bitcoins. In this case, it is not unwanted since I assume you wish to mine bitcoins. In this case, carry on.

"Trojan.BitcoinMiner" likewise is a reference to the antivirus thinking the program is unwanted with adverse effects of stealing power to mine for an attacker.

Remember: ONLY download mining or wallet software(or any bitcoin software for that matter) from trusted users and sites to avoid real malware. Mine at your own risk and keep computer temperatures within reasonable bounds. Mining may or may not be profitable, depending on your setup and hardware.

Thanks, the worrying thing is i only did this to play around with it, as its only making $0.10 cents a day if that, so it would be a shame if it stole my currency exchange site details and fkd me over for $.10 cents Tongue I do have 2 factor auth though so hopefully that stops any hackers from taking my currency!

Do you know if hackers with access to your computer can steal your phone's 2 factor auth somehow?

Mining programs contain malware? Should i be worried?
by
simplydt
on 28/11/2013, 22:16:41 UTC
I started mining some coins today, and I just ran a malware scan and it comes up with the following as malware:
Files Detected: 3
C:\Users\David\Downloads\cgminer-3.7.0-windows.zip (PUP.Optional.BitCoinMIner) -> No action taken.
C:\Users\David\Downloads\mining_proxy.exe (PUP.Proxy.BCM) -> No action taken.
C:\Users\David\Downloads\pooler-cpuminer-2.2.3-win32.zip (Trojan.BitcoinMiner) -> No action taken.

(end)

- I downloaded them all from the original source.. is it really malware or should i not worry?

Some people only have one computer and that must suck. Fortunately I have multiple so I can use some of my alt-miners to do this safely.

It's currently going at 0.02 btc per PTS. What do you think will happen to the price after the difficulty goes up in 20 hours?

Should we be buying pts today?

Re: I am buying BTC and hold them and even forget about them and in 4 years...

I am buying BTC and hold them and even forget about them and in 4 or 5 years will look back and see what happened to them.

What do you think about this strategy?

How much do you think each BTC will cost in 5 years?

I will try to buy at least 20 or 40 BTC

Will I be rich in 5 years?

This is a good implementation of the classic buy-and-hold strategy.

Yes you will be rich   Cheesy - most of the appreciation will occur in the next 48 months according to my logistic analysis of bitcoin prices. Put 40 BTC into dukong's ranking calculator to see where you would stand with regard to other holders.

http://btc.ondn.net/search

Please take security seriously. I created a paper wallet from bitaddress.org and put it in my safe deposit box. Then you can forget about it.

Can you really trust a web site to make you a secure paper wallet?? What if the code changes randomly 1/100 times to malicious code that steals your secret; Thus, chances are anyone who checks it sees the safe/real code but quite a few wallets are actually compromised until its uncovered.

Protoshares hands down. About to be worth more than litecoin.

Thanks for the tip. It looks extremely interesting. I completely agree that having my USD in an exchange always feels unsafe. A decentralized exchange thus, is super. What multiplier of ROI would you estimate it will have?
