Suprnova Pool is ready:

https://granite.suprnova.cc

Currently no fee, hop in and help us find the first Block !

This pool finding too many blocks.

Can you explain your post? This statement would be opposite of the truth. A whopping 6 blocks since launch, out of 129 total.

Pool works fine for me and that is all I ask. Returns seem fine.

Yep, I'm keeping my miners pointed to this pool, just curious why that random false statement

Networks only averaging around 30MH/s, difficulty only 0.2, easy money guys. Check out all the buy orders on Crypsty. Keeping my personal pool open to all while starcoin revival is in the works. Zero fees, donations appreciated. Don't forget this coin has bonus blocks, hitting several a day increasing income that much more

Well, the interesting news is that simply adding the lines to the sources, recompiling, wiping the blockchain, etc etc .. Doesn't work. So there must be another trick to it .. I suspected there might be, but I don't know enough about it to guess. Will do some more debugging .. the code itself seems simple enough .. but if there is supposed to be a node in the network that does something special, and its down or not functioning correctly .. I cannot compensate for this.

Found out the same on my end also. It's definitely a learning experience. I looked at a number of other coins source code for clues and one thing is pretty clear, this one is really out of date. As long as Cryptsy is trading them and people are buying them all up I'll keep my pool going.

@ Sirnubbles, could you be a bit more precise about how to get the POS working again. Where do I have to fill in

Don't worry about the PoS checkpoints, that's just for whenever people get the source code together for an update. You'll see a 'Checkpoints too old' warning with wallet for now but it doesn't harm anything

Cheers

Ah allright. Yes I do. It didn't synched earlier, but yesterday (or the day before) it suddently start synching Smiley.  Is the PoS system still working now?

As far as I know it is. Haven't kept any coins in one place for long enough to notice  Cheesy

Anyone on Linux can change this source code and recompile to fix the checkpoints too old message

edit ~/starcoin/src/checkpoints.cpp

Yes, that's what I did, and there's another section in 'src/kernel.cpp' as well, although I'm not sure I got this bit down yet.

As I posted before, as soon as I have proved this out, I'll publish my results here, and hopefully get a Windows compile going. As things stand currently, I might just get a few minutes to look back at it later on this week...

For the PoS checkpoints we:

starcoind getblockhash 400000
result - 0000001c28ec2d77f40b4dd9ef777f1aeb11e0527ee0eb9901f876a2e2231ba3

starcoind getblock 0000001c28ec2d77f40b4dd9ef777f1aeb11e0527ee0eb9901f876a2e2231ba3
result - "modifierchecksum" : "7f08adf2"

using that result in kernel.cpp:

Code:
    boost::assign::map_list_of
    (     0, 0x0e00670bu )
    (   100, 0xb52d1d99u )
    ( 10000, 0xc1c3e28fu )
    (100000, 0x88a23121u )
    (200000, 0xfcbb2766u )
    (300000, 0x1e19374au )
    (371800, 0xa200c164u )
    (400000, 0x7f08adf2u )
    (500000, 0x7fc5df8au )
    (600000, 0x205ec908u )
    (700000, 0x48e9ce24u )
    (755275, 0x470d454cu )
    ;

updated list of live fast nodes, from moments ago:

Code:
addnode=198.58.99.249
addnode=198.58.115.87
addnode=84.45.63.215
addnode=107.170.67.240

addnode=192.81.135.88

by

So I've rented other rigs maybe 15 times, decided to offer one of mine up last night. Absolutely rock solid rig with the old faithful 5870's in it that just never quit, it's been running several months on numerous scyrpt coins without any issues. Woke up to an email from renter saying rig is rejecting all shares and to compensate him. I find 3 dead cards in rig and absolutely no clue what algo he was trying to mine. What kind of checks are in place to make sure renters aren't pointing to wrong kind of algorithm or other such mistakes that could cause hardware issues? luckily all the cards came back after being powered down for several minutes but I have to say I don't have a good feeling about this all

Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks

Ok I see a flurry of activity on here, so I will state my case & position.

I have taken a clone of the source code, in an attempt to fix the "Checkpoint is too old" error. This arises because the last checkpoint in the wallet code is, indeed, too far back in the blockchain history for the wallet to deem it 'secure'. However, no need to panic, since there has been no forks, there is only the one blockchain for people mining/trading. With the assistance of some other coin devs (I have little crypto coding experience to date, although have coding experience, and learn quick!) I believe I have added some new checkpoints, but at present I haven't fully tested these updates, and last time I checked the wallet was still complaining. This could be just because I have neglected some nuance of crypto wallets & coding, but I don't want to make any premature announcements until the testing is fully and independently verified.

I'm currently fairly heavily involved in the reorganisation of another coin, and my spare time is already quite precious (job, sleep, other projects) so I can't presently offer to take on the StarCoin dev or lead the project. My intention was simply to offer some remedial maintenance to keep the coin going until someone came forward.

I will try to complete this fix, and when the time is right, I will publish my 'version' .. I don't think at this time it represents a 'fork' from the original code. At that time, you will be able to see in the source repository that the changes are relatively minor. This was intended chiefly as an introduction for me into crypto coding, and hopefully it will prove a successful one, which also benefits a worthy coin in the process!

If anyone can come forward with Windows Qt building experience, please contact me via pm, I don't presently have a windows Qt setup, or equally .. if anyone knows how to cross-compile with mingw32/etc in linux, please also contact me via pm. Thanks.

don't forget probably want to update the nodes IP addresses in the source also before considering anything done. Another very simple fix

Starcoin is awesome. massively underrated and ignored right now, considering how profitable it is
I second the idea of going ahead with fork and new dev.
dev or new dev: stable node available at 198.58.99.249 default port
I have a pool running for personal use but if no other stable pools are around anyone is welcome to hop on and register at: starcoin.mining.sexy - averaging a block every 5 mins just by myself. no fees or nonsense unless it goes > 50%. no issues with pool wallet to cryptsy

Star coin is really old good pow+pos coin. I am buying it as much as I can, It will soon skyrocket again. If new dev fork it and cryptsy will change the wallet, than star can 10x value instantly.

The checkpoints just need updating correct? should be simple

only 2 users on starcoin.mining.sexy hashing away. block every 2-3 minutes

OH I see sorry I googled for some set up guides.

So the wallet will do the mining and I point that at the pool in the settings?

annoying you cant open it until go, then all the experts will be hitting it so hard while im still flapping around as a clueless noob. lol

How will all these "new to crypto" main users of the coin students know what to do?

mining a generic scrypt coin will really require good hardware. If you don't have a good GPU you are better off just buying some of the coins from exchange
