Re: Space Development and Space Science Together, an Historic Opportunity

That's a really interesting concept. Would these assembly lines by automated or manned?...

As far as I am concerned, humans should be only creators of the new and steering the wheel of history with direction and innovation. Would no one consider natural that if a robot can do my bid I should have more free time to be human, to communicate with others and enhance the life of all?

Yet here are the factic powerhouses of the world, conspiracy or not, providing the eighteen century recipe three centuries past their time - if there was ever a time - to convince us, the people, that our worth is no more than that of a metal piece. Hail to the King of the chain greasers! Long life the President of the door-knob polishers!

And yes all the absurd kingdoms need a church so let´s build one that we will call the "dream". The dream will slash our enemies with words ("more powerful than the sword") and will overcome any need for a rational thinking. The "dream" will separate the believers from the terrorist and the worthy individuals from the lazy hordes that plague the Earth, forever guilty of their own hunger.

Be forever blessed "dreamer" who thinks that his worth is that of his last day of inhuman work and devours whatever new buzz runs in the hive of the neo-capitalism and the old-communism that could never understand, describe nor serve the future Mankind -  our children.

The VC ant
by

on 31/10/2018, 13:17:53 UTC
He is nothing but a forty-niner digging near  the river Mokelumne in 1848, today in a dome under the med-sun of San Francisco, an ant on the frontier economy before the politicians decide that California needs a constitution. Neither donkey nor cradles are now needed to look for the hidden veins of the mother of all metals on the frontier economy of Crypto.
The 32nd pitch of these last two days of rounds A´s is finished, and he starts to wonder why people who have so little to say feel the need to demonstrate so across more than 40 colourful and data-packed slides and videos. “They deserve all the artillery I am bringing on them” – crosses his thoughts - as he prepares to ask once more the question, with little hope of getting a professional answer.

“Who are your potential clients?” – all politeness with a half-smile, covering the apathy resulting of low expectations.

“Virtually anyone can benefit from our fantastic project! Who would not want to use our super-messenger with social links to working applications embedded with a promotional tequila discounted purchase and travel fidelity on-site cryptobank based on open-source code from China?”

“How will you be reaching your client, that is, anyone?”

“Oh it is obvious, we are going to go VIRAL! This is so good that anyone that sees it is going to send hundreds of links to all his friends, aquaintances and pets! Just… let me look for slide number 38… here see? These are our growth predictions… x1000 in the first 24 hours”

“Thank you. I have no further questions” - he says, while thinking that this did not pose a challenge worth of further truth finding.

Another rock hammered in the mountain, another shovel of sterile sand on the cradle, another slideshow,… He, the VC ant, rests, half smile still on, and waits for the next presentation.

Crypto dust

⭐ Merited by The Pharmacist (2) ,alejandrosn1998 (2)
All is left in the undivided office space of the second floor of Baarerstrasse 133 is a thin layer of dust, all leased furniture and equipment now gone, perhaps to better serve other bold enterprises. I have taken upon myself to hand over the keys to the rentals office guy, perhaps in the name of some old-time maritime tradition about captains and sinking ships.

"Dust to dust, dreams to ashes and dead tokens to the crypto limbo", I say to myself. As I look through the window to the aseptic glass and steel of the surrounding buildings I see reflections of the people that shared the trail - great professionals all of them ... that cute Community Manager always smiling, our Chief Technical Officer (we never called him Mr. Spock to his face)... and so many others. And all the images of our ICO come to my mind... the glitter of the crypto-gold called us and we responded with one of the best ICOs of the quarter, creating a community of more than 40k people and getting our hard cap in a record time.

We truly believed in crypto. In no way we were just taking advantage, we had real dreams a real plan and unlimited ambitions. We sized for the battle with a large and strong team, decided to deliver and started big, thinking of being one day a world-class company.

And that was our mistake, should I say my mistake as leader: I believed too much. When the market went 40% under ATH I holded. As I holded when it was under 60% and then... by the time the dust settled our plans had dissolved into the sea where the financially impossible projects rest.

I guess there is little else to say... Dreams are expensive and when the funds no longer cover the "real life" costs is time to let go. "Here are your keys".

Re: Brave New World & 1984: prescience, whistleblowing, public opinion probes?
by
sister1001

He described how, by manipulating the people by fear, a totalitarian government might be able to even destroy the people`s spirit. To me, "1984" is a book related to how the fear and the destruction of the minds of the people, through starvation, by having them in a continuous state of stress, even at the point of being able to destroy the capacity of falling in love.

I have to say that, historically, regimes based on fear and state surveillance of the individuals have proven to be weaker and shorter lasting than those that at least pretend to make the individuals believe that their say means something.

The most recent experiments that western societies have undergone is the control based on The Shock Doctrine. It is not that new, but it has been taken to new heights after September-11 and the London, Madrid and Paris attacks, among others.

Apparently, it is more efficient to calm the masses providing apparent choices based on the materialism and the pseudo-democracies and then use the shock when required, inciting the hate to other civilisations, when draconian or impopular measures are desired by the controlling plutocracies. Ensure this is mixed with an acritical educational system and a continuous feed of instagram-uploaded celebs pictures to discourage any depth in the thinking of the mass.

The results are societies that do not need to massively detract resources from the economy to ensure a continuous surveillance of the individual nor have the social tensions that come from not letting any steam out of the boiler. Thus, the economy serves uninterrupted a continuous flow into the bags of the plutocrats, while the population is kept scared in an Just in Time fear production system, delivering shocks as needed in case greasing is required.

Crypto is a mirror
by
sister1001
on 10/10/2018, 13:03:47 UTC
He walked the gray paving looking at his foot, his face showing the tranquile expression of the accepted defeat. The noise of the traffic passing by and the shouts of the beggars and the occasional pimp seemed not to penetrate the invisible bubble of his existence on this dark yet dry winter evening in Toxteth.

He used to blame it on Dave. He introduced him to the local crypto-group in 2016, mostly formed by guys that had some executive deals to hide from prying public eyes. He would have never been interested in Bitcoin if he hadn´t met Dave. It had taken a few months - he would not be able to tell how many - but he had finally understood that this was not about Dave, nor the guys of the club, nor for that mater Bitcoin nor any of the alts. But he finally found the strength to say it aloud, making his thoughts corporeal by the mere voicing:

"Bitcoin is a mirror that can only show you who you are. If you, like me, have gone into a x20 leveraged position, borrowing money against your home in January 2017 - bull on Bitcoin - you can´t pretend that anyone is responsible but yourself. Bitcoin has showed you who you are.".

Re: Would a crypto-based universal basic income actually work?
by
sister1001
on 06/10/2018, 21:55:24 UTC

Looking at Manna as an example, their whole UBI aspect relies on a centralized nonprofit; what then is even the point of the cryptocurrency aspect? What value does it add on top of just setting up some BTC-accepting charity that would send donated funds to all verified individuals equally?

Some aspects of crypto could be interesting to set up the methods and procedures of an Universal Income system. However, I think some coins are using the term as a buzz word and their proposal is closer to a passive income investment, no different from the many existing ones.

Universal Basic Income, as I see it, is the compromise of a society to ensure that all its member have some income, but it has to be independent of any investment, that is, must equalise the members of the society regardless of their economic means for investment. The use of crypto or blockchain technology in this case would be anecdotical.

In a way, Universal Health services, universal pensions and free education are a form of UBI, paid in species. It is noteworthy that societies that actually accept those items as a core function of the political system are however reluctant or plain adverse to providing the same benefit in cash.... would anyone dare to mention crypto in a political proposal?

Re: We need new ideologies

We're well passed the era of trying to wrap economics around carefully crafted ideologies. Maybe you can make a new one, but it won't be long until those ideas become obsolete too at the rate of progress.

The ones I put as an example are more than three centuries old. If the new ones last at century, I would consider that good enough.

We need new ideologies
by
sister1001

⭐ Merited by Welsh (6) ,suchmoon (4)
Most of the ideologies are about to be past their use-by-date. That is, we have ideologies that are telling us about how wealth is created and how should it be distributed mostly.

Capitalism is about those who have, and get paid for investing their money and those who only have their work, and get paid for their time and effort. (not that it works that well). Communism is about everyone getting paid for their effort (not that it really works at all).

However, those ideas and setting the focus just on those solutions belongs to an industrial society. It seems that we are still arguing about things that are being replaced. The typical example are repetitive jobs being replaced by robots or machines and even some high level jobs and decissions being taken by artificial intelligences.

So we have here something "new", the value will be added by "bots" and IA that don´t require to "get paid". The best know proposal to deal with this, is the Robot Tax.

We need new ideologies and we need to place the focus of our future philosophy on the moral issues between man and machine, wherever that frontier is set. Do DAO and crypto can be a mean to address some of this issues?

The Triangle
by
sister1001
on 30/09/2018, 00:31:15 UTC

4 a.m. Tuesday, and the shape is finally forming. The triangle is there. I wipe my eyes, they feel watery and my bet´s they´re red, but they are not lying. The triangle is there, even if it´s taken a few hours and few Red Bulls my eyes are not lying. A sophisticated console, all the oscillators, volumes, theoretical supports, prices and correlations with the rest of the exchanges, other assets, a relentless follow-up of the markets, the news and several nights of sleep lost lead to this moment - the moment of truth - where the questions are answered... "Do you trust yourself?", "Do you have the balls to do this?", "Are U fuk*ng crazy?". And I key in the order. There is no compromise in keying the price and the amount, is there? Nothing happens when you do it, because it is still waiting for you confirmation, so it is all right. But it is the third time I say that to myself and I am no longer believing it.

I click. The click is like a 2000 decibel sound, like an mini-nuke launched inside my TFT screen lighted room, or at least that how it feels to me.

[ORDER PLACED]
...
[ORDER EXECUTED]

And triangle is now alive, while I wait for the tendency to break up or down, and drag my life where ever it goes. I am lucid-dreaming of an army of bulls wearing stupid suits of armors is pulling the Sisyphus stone up a hill while the enemy, bears carrying bags of paper lit these in fire and launch them to the bulls. And it´s been less than sixty seconds when I see as clear as a high definition 4K monitor, above the triangle, daiquiris, sunny beaches and the gift of time, with Hawaiian girls dancing, I see a couple of Ferrrari - never been into "lambos" really - and I see a rocket and a moon and a credit card built in iridium alloy that laughs as it dives in a glass of Dom Pérignon Rose in a club in Mayfair. And below the triangle there is darkness, there are half a dozen guys in gray unbranded suits, with grey unbranded briefcases filled with the scariest red marked evelopes - "LAST NOTICE", "DO NOT IGNORE", "TO ALL INHABITANTS OF FLAT 5",..  - and I see dust and pain and unforgiveness.

A drop has fallen on my keyboard. An I wonder if sweat and tears are made of the same substance because I don´t know which one´s the drop.... The triangle has broken, my life, for this time, has not. I breathe deep and close my position with a click, this time soft as the sands of the Caribbean Sea.

I still keep that token

It was 2017, after a summer of sky-rockets hitting x20 and even more, when Wabi, a Chinesse ICO that basically provided no info on the real use of its token and had what was possibly a WP made by a 8 yr'ld kiddo armed with safety scissors and a non-toxic glue stick managed to get an oversubscribed ICO kicking o x43 two days after it's launch.

Yeah...those times.. It was about then when I wandered the Blockchain panorama with some ether, far closer to the single than the triple digits, bought after a fight to death with Kraken's Cloudflare and 404s with, at the time, a useless trading system, trying to make some sense of why all this precarious ventures were actually growing far beyond reason and, needless to say, searching for my chance to take advantage.

And then, I came across this ICO. Let's call it the F token just to have it named. F token has a cool page, properly built, excellent team. The White Paper is very professional, no trace of a misspelled word, the team is public and impressive,.... SBSP - Solid Business & Solid People. When the day comes I am ready. The recent gas wars have showed me that being a minute late is being a minute too late and having 100 wei in the gas price of your MEW becomes a must to get into the good ones. Three, two, one... there it goes my unreasonable amount of ETH

I could write at large about the next months, full of Telegram messages with elusive answers, half truths, red coloured numbers  ending up in hope, despair, anger, sadness and finally, acceptance. Yet rather than that, I will simply say that I still hold that token, rotten and buried - if bytes can rot - among hundreds of 0x transactions - worth less than a cheap burger in a no-go borough of this city.

And you may think that I am just an irredeemable hodler, unable to accept that it's gone forever, but I know better: That token is still in there as permanent reminder of what I went through out there in the new frontier, where dreams are born and slaughtered in the blink of an eye and even the wisest can be blinded by the glitter of a ethereal Bitcoin.

Google was cool, google was fun and new and broke with the dominance of Explorer and Mozilla and the old crappy search engines like Yahoo and Altavista. And then it started to look like a nightmare of stolen and misused data. I just feel invaded.

These are my alternatives, I hope they are at least a bit less scary:

- Browser: Opera or Brave. Personally I like Brave better.
- Lately, Duck Duck Go for searches.

And I guess I could even end up using Linux, I just don´t think I am ready to make the jump ´cause the learning curve is steep and my time limited.

Re: Should I hold for some more months or Shoul I sell?
by

I have bought some veri coins. Now I am afraid that I will not be able to make some profit. Because the market looks very bad. Each and every coin is in the red zone.

If you have been holding until  now, I think that it is better to keep doing so, it is much more likely that you will be able to recover later on instead of realising all your losses. In an case, cheap coins are not the ideal asset to hodl for a long time. Usually, if they are going to pump it will happen either in one or two months or possibly never at all.

Make sure that your next buys a are bit more solid and get some bitcoin too.

Re: STOP THIS DESPERATION FOR FREE TOKENS!!!
by
sister1001
on 26/08/2018, 21:04:34 UTC
This desperation for 'FREE' tokens is wrong!

Free tokens are rarely worth it but, as the title say, they are free, so there is no problem on having them around. Now, what is not always true is that they don´t have a cost. Normally you will be asked to give some information in exchange for the token and that means that you will at least waste your time. As the saying goes, there are no free meals, even when the meal is free.

Good compilation. In fact most games choose ethereum wrongly as it has been proven that there is no real capability in the network. It would be similarly wrong to choose EOS. I would advise to use a chain that is effectively built to handle the high volume transactions required for a game that actually has to register data continuously in the chain. Still I don´t think there is one that could potentially give you game level response time results for action.

I agree that these promo tokens are a PIA.  I dislike people hijacking my wallet with junk coins.  I for one will not invest in any project that attempts this type of spamming technique.  We need less spam not more.

Sure these are the worst, that possibility of sending tokens without any particular acceptance criteria is really nasty, but I guess is a little price to pay for freedom.

Re: What seems to be the average price of ICO's
by
sister1001
on 19/08/2018, 22:16:54 UTC
I agree. I don't think it is that simple. Many factors are intertwining in order to identify the market value of an ICO ...

It is very important to set a realistic hard cap and soft cap for the ICO as it is very important not to changes these into something else in the middle of an ICO, which has happened quite a few times. In general, the ICO should strike a balance between having just too little cash to deliver the project and setting a hard cap so high that the ICO will be under subscribed and thus damage the investors with the initial dip in value for having excess tokens.

Anyone hear anything or know anything about ethereum doing a POS staking? Ive attached the website link from an email i received.

It is false. Ether will (maybe) become proof of stake, but for the moment the big actors are very happy that is asic resistant and they can still drive the politics of the chain seamlessly.

It can be either a whale correcting its position, or most likely a cold storage wallet sending the funds to the market to allow for withdrawals. Many people are getting better off with the fall.

From my view point; I think NANO and Binance Coin will be the best ALTcoins to invest in 2018! NANO is an outstanding platform
...

NANO is a poor solution to a problem that does not exist. The chain does not offer any technical innovation and the nodes are mostly in Colombia used for mere speculation as the coin itself does not have any use case, where they should remain.
