$11.5 trillion BlackRock says that #Bitcoin and crypto adoption is outpacing the internet and mobile phones.

https://x.com/BitcoinMagazine/status/1878870351620506037?t=Qxz2UCPIge4Qes39EaAU9g&s=19

I am not to sure about this chart. First i do not think the 3 things are that directly comparable. For example since you "use" bitcoin by buying/selling etc via the internet. But there was nothing assisting the internets growth in the same way when it started so is it not surprising bitcoin is growing faster? Second I wonder how the 300 million bitcoin users is calculated? I have a few bitcoins in total but  I have bought them in parcels of about 0.1 bitcoins over several years. Am i deemed 1 user of bitcoin or about 25 (based on number of buys?

Anyone else have views?

Is this the end of excitement
by
slowlyslowly
on 12/01/2024, 01:29:50 UTC
I have been buying small amounts of bitcoin for over 10 years. While I was always knew bitcoin would grow I did hope that some events might make it jump up in price say 3 to 5 times. Events like etf approval, a harvening etc. I still remember those charts that had predicted supersonic prices by now. But now read that both the etf and harvening aew now priced in and yet the price is not even an earlier all time high.

Does that mean the excitement days are over. Has bitcoin become boring in terms of big price fluctuations☹️

Explanation
Chartbuddy thanks talkimg.com

WE need to be more proactive than waiting for a halvening or an etf or something to boost the price to $100K plus. We need to build intergenerational bitcoin knowledge and buying.

So with the help of chatgpt I have cre4ated a rap?? nursery rhyme? that we need to be saying to the 10 and undfers so they join the satoshi gang. Are you with me? then let us sing along.................................

(Verse 1) Hey little buddy, let me tell you something neat, 'Bout a thing called Bitcoin, a digital treat. It's like online money, so shiny and new, You can use it on your tablet, and your computer too.

(Chorus) Bitcoin, Bitcoin, it's a virtual treasure, You can buy cool stuff, it's a world of pleasure. It's special and unique, like a secret code, Just remember to keep your wallet's password mode.

(Verse 2) No banks or governments, it's all in the cloud, With blockchain technology, it makes us all proud. Transactions are recorded, no one can cheat, It keeps everything safe, isn't that neat?

(Chorus) Bitcoin, Bitcoin, it's a virtual treasure, You can buy cool stuff, it's a world of pleasure. It's special and unique, like a secret code, Just remember to keep your wallet's password mode.

(Verse 3) There's only a limited amount, you see, Like a rare gem, it's valuable, yippee! But remember, my friend, it's for big kids to use, So let's keep exploring and having a blast, won't you choose?

(Chorus) Bitcoin, Bitcoin, it's a virtual treasure, You can buy cool stuff, it's a world of pleasure. It's special and unique, like a secret code, Just remember to keep your wallet's password mode.

(Outro) Now you know about Bitcoin, you're oh so clever, Keep learning and growing, it's a journey that's forever. But for now, little buddy, go play and have fun, Bitcoin's waiting for you when you're older and done!

OK my turn to post from Twitter

Sauce

Binance is just a more advanced Mt Gox. Doing things they either knowingly or being deliberately blind to that at some point implode in some way (here intervention by the law).

The sooner all these distractions are gone or are laughed at the sooner new entrants to bitcoin will be able to see nothing is properly founded incl the non gold linked usd except for bitcoin. In fact with usd no longer tied to gold bitcoin is as good if not better founded.

As for price it should not effect things in the wider sense of bitcoin being in a sort of $20to 40k wait and see period. The next big push is proably the havening though personally I think once it goes past the old ath it should be even more attractive as at that mark everyone that has ever bought bitcoin at any time for any price is in the black. That is quite remarkable and shows potential entrants that hodl has been very to owners and no reason it will not be good for them. Get the choo choos back on the track

The "crypto" market's memory is exceedingly short.

His points #3 and #4 are precisely why the "crypto" market will have another bull run. Because VC greed never dies.

It'll be brand new companies just like FTX and BlockFi but with new names; wolves in sheep's clothing.

They will find loop holes around the "securities" issue.

Because scammers gonna scam, and n00bs are completely oblivious to crypto history.  Roll Eyes

We are 13 years into Bitcoin's birth, and the ONLY regulations inacted have been on poor Average Joe (i.e., KYC/AML, id and bank account required, taxes on buy, sell, and profit, etc.), NOT on the scammer exchanges and VCs.

agree. bitcoin has remained the same for the whole 13 years ie as per the white paper. its mt gox and FTX that have come and gone but more like them will come and go. also bitcoin has stayed away from all the nonsense about tokens etc. It has also not over promised "benefits' or "opportunities" the way other coins have. In short there is really two worlds - bitcoin and all the rest that collectively could be called crypto  - 95% which should be avoided like the plague. Sadly many people keep everything on exchanges when all you need is a wallet to protect from the greedy or incompetent exchanges. That allows exchanges to take down so many people when they crash.

By the way, some six days ago I got a feeling of a kind of tingling pain on the right side of my scalp, and when I brushed my teeth I felt pain in my gum on the right side. I didn't think much of it at first, but yesterday I got blister in my scalp as well so I went to see a doctor today, and it turns out I have shingles. So now I'm on valaciclovir, the pain isn't as bad as I thought it would be though.

Be careful with shingles. My daughter got shingles in her right eye and while the shingles have "gone" it led to some secondary problems. It seems shingles never "go away" - they just wait there and can spring up again. Yes healthy lifestyle and eating and good sleep etc reduce the likelihood of repeats so that seems to be the way to go for lots of things. best of luck.

Jamie Dimon saying that Bitcoin is a decentralized Ponzi scheme can’t be good for the price in the short term. Longer term I think this could be the beginnings of signs that we’ve reached bottom. Maybe not the exact bottom, but when you’re looking back on a 10 year chart it will look like the bottom where you should’ve started buying and stopped selling.

Dimon has said this several times. To my mind he is not understanding quite the way some (most?) buyers think. First there are speculators but who cares. Theyexist in all markets. second while the price has  big crashes (90%?) off some high it does kill off bitcoin ie there are always new people buying into bitcoin for what it has always provides no matter the price they buy in eg independence from the financial  system etc . While there are always new people entering that see more than any big wealth changes that may or may not come it cannot be called a ponzi .

I meet a few people keen on bitcoin as a concept but put off by some aspect eg do I have to mess around with wallets when I want to only put in less than say $1000.
Seems to me their options are limited   Eg maybe they could by some shares in microstrategy and get a simliar end result. Not recently up with the play with etfs like the winklevosses proposed years ago but it seemed these things seem to die on the vine or at least are not available e to non USA citizens and your funds were locked in for several years?
Any suggestions about “easy entry” things for newbies?

Not sure newbies to this site and so potentially bitcoin buyers realise how great the price is at the moment if previous history counts for anything (spoiler alert I do). I think we could get to $100k+ in say 5 years so buying at around $20k is 5 fold growth in price. I happen to think bitcoin could actually got to $4k before it goes up. So a 90% drop from the last ath. But buying at least some now and some later is a reasonable option. The whales seem elsewhere for a while but when they return thinks will change. If you regret you did not not know about bitcoin or knew about it but we’re too nervous to buy when it was $200 or $2,000 then in few years time a 2022 price of $20k will feel the same. DYOR AND THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE.

I love it when bitcoin drops like this.I even think it will go down as much as 25% before it goes up. But the reason I love it besides cheap coins is that it shuts up all the detractors. Nobody falsely calls it a scam. When it goes up over the next few years the hodl strategy will once again prove to be the best. Finally bitcoin just carries on functioning as it has since day one. Longevity matters and it is like a poke in the eye to the detractors. I am in seventh heaven….

Re: Bitcoin current stage and price
by

This week holds high expectations for Bitcoin enthusiasts and traders who are waiting for the next Bitcoin movement. The price of bitcoin is $39,700, which some analysts consider as a bullish momentum. We expect at lists a $45k Bitcoin price before the end of this week or a strong resistance of $43k price and the end of the week.
What are your views on the current market?

bitcoin at times (always?) has manipulators in it. Based on what i have seen from some other big drops I do not think we have finished with $30,000 or even a lot lower figure and the $30,000 - $40,000 is just game paying and it will go down below $30,000 and then will stay there a while (several months?) give or take $3000-$5000 and then start to move off and at some point 2 years? the newbies will rush back in and take it quickly past $100,000. So to me even at $40,000 its a good price to buy but the majority of your money you have to should hold off a few months as you could get twice as many satoshis for the same amount of fiat.

the next checkpoint $13,800

Very rarely has bitcoin price gone below the 200 WMA and when it did it has recovered after a month or two. Not sure why $30,000 seemed to be checkpoint that took some time to go through other than it is a round number and maybe people had positions at that mark. Anyhow I see no reason why it cannot fall to the current 200 wma ($13,800?) after maybe slowing at $20,000 for the same reason as $30,000.

So I think bitcoin at its current price ($29,000 ish) is great buying but if people spread their buying out a little over time (next few months?)  I think they will benefit even more.

To me this $12,000-$29,000 is the same opportunity we were all afforded when bitcoin was last "cheap " at about $250 in June 2015 and about $3,300 in February 2019.

Arguably with bitcoin on average doubling every year any time is good buying but now is a superb time to buy. And who knows when or if ever again the stars will be so aligned.

Love Elon for Tesla and space exploration but forget about him about bitcoin
by
slowlyslowly
on 18/05/2021, 23:20:41 UTC

I love Elon. The world needs more risk takers though he sometimes loses the plot at odd times.

But in terms of real effect on the bitcoin price forget him.  there was a spike a few years back where we went from less than $1,000 to about $17,000 and then it came down and settled about $8000 before moving up fast again recently. Elon had no hand in that up and down. it was the old friends (enemies?) of manipulation, FOMO (greed) and then exhaustion. I think we are going way down now to $30,000 at least just on the downhill pattern we have when huge spikes occur. So long as we are above the 200wma we are still getting doubling in price each year. Elon buying lots or selling lots or talking about other coins etc wont hurt us. Stand easy.

'2x per year' lines update (vs 7-day average):

Hats off to Phil_S  for this chart that sees 2x still hold as of april 2021   (and that the recent insane spike to $60,000 is within the high bound and nothing really special eg is less in relative terms to the $17,000 spike.) For any newbies on this site this chart basically says buy now. Sure, I and some others think the price will resettle in the region of $12,00-$30,000 for a bit so you may not want to go all in at $50,000 which is about where its at today but even if you bought lots very soon (in the next year say) it will all come right in a matter of a 1 year or two after that when you join the the "doubling bandwagon".  GO BITCOIN GO!

And another solid day.

All of January 2021 are in the top 29 spots.

if we have 2 more days over 30k

We will have what I believe is the first perfect month of ath.

As each day will be better than any day prior to 2021.

Go btc go.

the chart also emphasizes the point of HODL. Even if you were mad enough to buying at the top in 2017 if you did not sell you have had 55? days recently where could have sold as a "profit". not many investments let you out of 'poor" decision-making like bitcoin does. it just keeps on going up albeit with some volatility

again who will organize the 10k party?  Grin

My guess is we need to organise the party for about $13K if the pump (and dump)  was a like that of $2017.

1 September 2017   $5,013.91Increase   Price broke $5,000 for the first time.[152]
17-20 November 2017   $7,600-8,100 Increase   Briefly topped at $8004.59. This surge in bitcoin may be related to the 2017 Zimbabwean coup d'état. In one bitcoin exchange, 1 BTC topped at nearly $13,500, just shy of 2 times the value of the International market.[153][154]
15 December 2017   $17,900 Increase   Price reached $17,900.[155]
17 December 2017   $19,783.06 Increase   Price rose 5% in 24 hours, with its value being up 1,824% since 1 January 2017, to reach a new all-time high of $19,783.06.[156]
22 December 2017   $13,800 Decrease   Price lost one third of its value in 24 hours, dropping below $14,000.[157]
5 February 2018   $6,200 Decrease   Price dropped by 50% in 16 days, falling below $7,000.[158]

26 October 2020   $13,000 Increase   Price stayed above the $10,000 mark for an unprecedented three-month stretch.[163]
16 November 2020   $16,800 Increase   Bitcoin has been more expensive in only five other instances in the past decade.[164]
18 November 2020   $18,000 Increase   Bitcoin rallies above $18,000 to trade near all-time highs.[165]
24 November 2020   $19,000 Increase   Bitcoin price reaches three-year high of more than $19,000.[166]
30 November 2020   $19,850.11 Increase   Bitcoin price reached new all-time high of $19,850.11.[167]
16 December 2020   $20,600 Increase   Bitcoin reaches all-time high of $20,600.[168]
17 December 2020   $23,421 Increase   Bitcoin hits new all-time high of $23,421.[169]
27 December 2020   $28,000+ Increase   Bitcoin hits new all-time high above $28,000.[170]
3 January 2021   $34,800 Increase   Bitcoin hit a new high of more than $34,800.[171]
7 January 2021   $40,324 Increase   Bitcoin's price crossed 40,000 for the first time.[172]
8 January 2021   $41,973 Increase   Bitcoin traded as high as $41,973.[173]
11 January 2021   $33,400 Decrease   Price briefly fell as much as 26% but pared losses to trade around $33,400. [174]

'2x per year' lines update (vs 7-day average):

This has been my №1 chart since you've posted it first here. We may notice that the lower line corresponds to a 2x price increase per year if we round the price to 50$ at the start of 2013. That is an exponential growth 50x2^t, where t is the number of years since 2014. The remarkable thing is that for 7 years Bitcoin has kept hitting these numbers on the way down after several extra exponential growths related to the halvings. And now Bitcoin is even above the line unlike 2015 and most of 2016. This is a strong sign that the exponential growth will continue at least in the next 2-3 years. We can't be sure if 2021 will have that extra growth, but the longer we stay close to the lower line, the better. Sooner or later Bitcoin will touch and may pass through the upper line for a period.

With that regard, what software/site do you use for that chart? I would like to make my own chart with years up to 2025.  In my opinion the lower line is very close to the real price of bitcoin, since it reflects the increasing demand (new accounts added to exchanges, etc.) vs selling pressure on exchanges. For the latter one can judge from the total exchange ballance, which has decreased from 2.8 mil to 2.4 mil in the last 6 months. We can easily find the line equation for each year so that for each day or month the price point is found. Something like y=(x/3)*1600+6400. For example at the end of August (x=8), the price for the bottom line is y~$10 666. We are over 10% above that, so all is good!

What's your prediction For BTCitcoin by December?

- over $12500
- over $13500
- over $15000

Me like- No one knows, end of story!  Roll Eyes

Easy. According the above formula, the price on 10th Oct. 2020 should have been (9.3/3)*1600+6400=$11360. Amazing! It seems that for one more year Bitcoin kept the 2x increase. At the end of 2020 the price should be around 12 800, according to the formula and the chart. We've been close to 12 500 already this year, so it is time to revisit and break that resistance. But of course, little above or below 2x is also quite possible. Even 15K-16K is not that far, only 40% from now.

does anyone know what other things gold? apple shares?  have achieved this sort of growth pattern over such a long period? Also since this chart is factual ie true and the jumps in the next few years are going to be huge if it holds why are not speculators piling in?

First day of school in Atlanta, GA, US (R). This is going to turn out well in 2 weeks, then 6 weeks before a lot of Republican adults die.

Unless you have no community transmission you are mad to open any thing and certainly not schools where everyone is close together.
the CDC say (though nobodt seems to listen)
While other countries that reopened schools have generally not experienced outbreaks in school settings, almost all had significantly lower levels of community transmission than the U.S. and greater testing and contact tracing capacity. Moreover, several disease clusters connected to schools and children have been reported.
Taken together, the evidence indicates that where there is already widespread community transmission, as in many areas in the U.S., there is clearly a risk of further spread associated with reopening schools. The risks of reopening need to be considered carefully in light of the recognized benefits of in-person education.
