Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland

so, guys, can somebody explain how much in electricity does the premine cost of this AUR coins sitting in wallets? And how much time does it takes to premine at difficulty , say 0.000001 and what miner is used to do it? Someone? Balduro?

It was coded so that the first block gave a huge reward of half the coins. So just solving the first block gave the first block solver all those coins, no extra power needed.

One week in and mine are still stuck at customs. DHL's last update was that it had been elevated to a senior official at customs and they are still unable to get it cleared. Hmm... Most odd. Seriously, what on earth did you put on the customs forms I wonder? Ordered dozens of other ASICs from mainland china and they've all got through without problems.

Ordered one coin last night... let's see how long it takes to get to me Smiley Precision scales and digital caliper also ordered (from Amazon) to measure it. Will report again when it arrives.

Sorry, was meaning to update this a while back but life got in the way.

So I ordered one Krugerrand on 15 Feb, arrived via UPS on 20 Feb. Checked it out with calipers and electronic scales and the measurements checked out. Not exact but close enough (there is some variance I understand).

I also ordered one of those coin checkers from goldcoinbalance dot com (they take Bitcoin as payment too) though it arrived much later and the coin checks out- passes all three tests for diameter, thickness and weight.

Being my first gold coin purchase ever in my life, I was a bit weary, but short of actually taking a filing off and subjecting it to an acid test, I think I have done all that can be reasonably done to test it and am happy with the coin.

Just had my aur.pool-a.net account locked this minute due to too many failed sign-in attempts. Hmm... someone trying to hack in I guess. Is it just me or is it more widespread?

Mine are still stuck at DHL. They asked for a series of questions (what it is, what it's made of, price, etc) and submitted those on Thursday morning. Still not a peep. But that's probably customs in Thailand trying to figure out how much to charge. PM'd beastlymac asking how much he declared it on the customs form so I could give the same number to customs but never got a reply, oh, well.

Fingers crossed they'll get it through customs in one piece by Monday.

Just answered DHL's questions and sent them a blockexplorer link to the payment as proof of payment for customs. Said that it was not paid for in USD, but in Bitcoin. Don't expect them to have a clue as to what a Bitcoin is, but we'll see... will keep you posted as to what happens.

This could be fun, if expensive.

Just got a call from DHL today too, asking for a description of the product and the price I paid for it. Hmm... What did you put on the customs forms so I can make sure I tell them the same? I'm based in Bangkok.

Did you find out how to solve it? Or did you reinstall. I've got the problem after upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 (and uninstalling and reinstalling Catalyst). Not quite sure why. but a fresh install with Catalyst beta 14.1 and app 2.9 worked fine so not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.

I did all that last night, I think that went OK, I just get a libboost error that I can't sort out.

I had to add libboost 1.46.1 to my existing 1.49.1.  The 1.46.1 source code did not produce a libboost_threads library, so had to symlink my existing (1.49.1) libboost_threads as 1.46.1.

Apparently the devs hard-coded it to accept 1.46.1 and no other boost.

Thanks. Gave up on this point myself last night Smiley

My feelings are that the community is doing all the hard work. They compiled the cpu miner, the cuda miner, explained the newbies how to use the wallet and so on and on.

What are these for developers :/

Exactly. If the creators abandoned the community before things got stabilized, why should anyone else stick around? Make your profits for now but when this crashes, no amount of cpr will be able to revive it.

They're still around on Twitter, helping people use the Windows command-line...  Roll Eyes

Did the CPU miner ever actually work for anyone? I've left it running with 16 cores since launch and my balance is still zero.  If I'm having these results how are there coins available to list on mcxnow?

The official CPU miner doesn't work with Stratum pools, only works if you're solo-mining. But with difficulty exploding, you're not going to get any blocks solo-mining easily.

1GH fixed it and now has it on their github - this works for their pool.

Max Keiser is a tosser, this has been the most blatant scam in the crypto community so far, it's going to turn people off crypto in a big way when they lose their money.

Maxcoin devs broke every single promise on the deliberately botched launch and instamined the fuck out of it, abused the trust that his fans have for him and stole their money. Russia Today would not be pleased by his antics.

Now people, blinded by the hype, are paying insane money for his trash maxcoins, money that the devs will spend on hookers and cocaine, money his investors will never see again.

Keiser is always droning on about ponzi schemes, well what the fuck is maxcoin then?

It's also possible that this fraud will cause the alt forums to be removed from Bitcointalk because of all the 502's lately.

Who's the financial terrorist Keiser?

Bravo, well said.

+1

That said, he seems pretty upbeat about the launch on his twitter feed... and lots of people who don't care about having their own wallet are enjoying it.  Sigh.

I'm doing great with my CPUs, using http://max.1gh.com, made $25 worth of MAX in 2 hours with my 2 desktops.

Cpu mining is just useless.. only gettings "booo's"

Are you using the official miner? That's broken. Need to use 1gh's fork at https://github.com/1gh/cpuminer to mine with stratum.

100 i7 cores solomining from minute one (getinfo was showing 22 blocks) and NO FUCKING BLOCK SOLVED!  Huh

What a waste of energy and time....

I solo mined on a MacBook Air 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with the wallet a few seconds after launch and found one block, confirmed. Grin

You did catch the message that the official cpuminer doesn't work and the only one that does work is the one that was modified by 1gh, didn't you?

Yes, the official one is a mess. Great testing they did.

Guys, 1gh cpuminer officially works now, fetch it on the site or https://github.com/1gh/cpuminer

So the devs gave up and went to bed and a third party had to fork it and fix it... Classic!

As I said earlier. A poor developer blames the community. I said we'd make or break Maxoin. Hoping someone forks Keisercoin and shows them how it's done.

Wonder what he'll say about it on his show... A resounding success it broke bitcointalk? A few people had problems? Will be interesting...

A complete mystery.

Mining from the get go for several hours with provided wallet(s) + cpuminers.

./maxcoind listtransactions | grep category
        ...
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        "category" : "orphan",
        ...

./maxcoind getbalance
0.00000000

1gh (the pool) just tweeted that there was a discrepancy between the cpuminer code and the wallet code. In other words the cpuminer won't work.
