Linux - debian or ubuntu?
by

Hi

I've decided to scrap windows and learn how to use Linux.(woho) As a novice I'd like to run ubuntu, but all the cgminer-guides are for Debian. So my question is if I'll face any problems running ubuntu? I'm not looking for anyone to hold my hand and guide my through the process, but a nudge in the right direction is greatly appreciated(guides, good threads etc) I really do not know how to start except for installing Linux.

My new rig arrived today and I am not sure I'll get it up running if I mess it up from the beginning.

what is the best way to increase bitcoins

Send them to one of those sites that offers to double your bitcoins for free or a ponzi/pyramid scheme.

Seriously, there are no easy options; just earn them.
yeah. that's true. you need to work hard.

you mean it hard work for your GPU? You are not doing any work really Grin

I just mine altcoins that seem interessting till i have 10-100 (depends on difficulty etc.).
In this way it won't really cost me anything and i still have the profit if the coin might shoot up in value somewhere this year.
Besides that it's just fun.

How do you decide which altcoins to mine? I started with COYE, you can guess what happened...
Are there any signs i can look for, that indicate a promising altcoin, or is it just luck?

It was kinda obvious kanye was going to sue the devs and halt the project. All these copycat coins brings nothing new to the market so they won't survive the long run. Look for innovation and unique attributes in new coins. I try to mine the coins as they are launched and sell them if it gets listed.

I like the idea of alt coins, i just need to figure out which ones are worth the time.

Alt coins can be useful, i have been using alt coins to practice trading etc. Only in small numbers but i just want to see how i go. So far i have managed an increase in the amount of doge i have just by trading it around.

Check out DigiByte Coin.   A new coin that looks pretty good.   They have a decent dev team and website.  We put our mining farm on it today and have collected over 400,000 coins.   Also im up for any suggestions for mining coins if anyone wants to give their opinion.

Thanks,.

Thanks i will check it out. My next challenge is to get into mining, there is alot of info but i dont know the first thing about computers or mining. Time to start reading.

It fun to learn this stuff so you won't get bored:)

Thanks, it will take a while to reach 0.00005500 BTC at http://www.coinbox.me
Someone have tried coinURL?

Try the ones in my signature. I've made enough to buy me a total of 300WDC(with some day-trading). coinbox.me sucks, so many captcas for so few little BTC. This week I'll get aprox. 0.015BTC from all my faucets and PTC sites. I'll trade these for altcoins and play the waiting game Grin

I don't care what people say when it pays of week after week, especially if you are smart.

www.coinwarz.com is a good way to find the most profitable coin to mine. I am only mining coins just as they launch or coins I believe can survive (or make me some BTC)

Only way to mine BTC is with mining hardware called ASIC. There isn't much to read up on, they're just exchanges where you exchange coins. Check out the threads here and the exchanges website. The BTCwiki probably also hold some info on this.

You don't mine ripple with BOINC. You are awarded a little ripple by aiding in medical research. I've tried it and I do not think it is worth the effort. The concept is good, but the coin distribution is shit just like with NXT(even if ripples aren't, coins I'll call them coins for clarifycation). If the market accepts the coin distribution it might survive. I see many people(as the guy above my post) saying it is scam - No one is trying to fooling anyone, it is completely open and transparent. The word "scam" is used just as loosely in this forum as a teen saying everything is "amazing". Scam is defined by something completely different.
