I don't even have .5 btc yet, so I haven't purchased anything.  Hopefully I will be rolling in bitcoins soon so that I can spend them!

Sadly, it's true the difficulty levels are going way too high in a small amount of time.

I think the people selling their ASIC miners for 25k-40k right now are prob smart.  I agree that the difficulty is going to absolutely skyrocket.  Especially if prices of BTC start to up really high.

I am a newb, purchased a 7970 Radeon and have been mining for a couple weeks.  I almost up to .5 btc.  I would love to get my hands on an asic miner, but as you guys know that is not very easy to do.

it depends on the GH of the machine. You'll need significant investment to build rigs urself, like $300k+
It wouldn't be hard to get your money back if that's the total required investment.

Re: Are Brain Wallets really a good idea?

This is a case of blaming the tools rather than the bad worker.

There is nothing wrong with brain wallets that a bit of thinking isn't going to fix.

Firstly, don't use all your words from the dictionary. Don't use all one language.

Use spaces, dashes, caps and lower letters and numbers

Don't use any phrase that already exists in print - anywhere!

"Luke, I am your father!" is out because its too short and well known

"Das freaky latino Hound, @Nellie with de supahuge bazookas - 9021oh,oh!"

Can you remember that? - Now convert it to a brain wallet address, and search the blockchain to see if it exists before you start using it!

Its not brain wallets that are faulty - its brains! Wink

And don't use the same password for anything else.

ist not safe

do not keep $ or BTC on any exchange.  immediately move it to cold storage.

you can use it, but not as a wallet or bank account.  only as a kiosk for buying/selling BTC.
Good advice.  Get your money/btc in and out as quick as possible.

Re: Newbie restrictions

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

I understand the rules, but It can hurt the auctions as well.  I would like to get in on the asciminer auction.
