It seems that we are the only 2 people running the Philosopherstone client.
There is a permanent PHS node at 108.61.18.123
Also there is a Philosopherstone source with a few updates/fixes at https://github.com/noise23/philosopherstone

It's great that you updated the client noise23!
So, we are 3 people running this client, which is still problematic.. We should think about the future to give to the project, and status quo only has a future that is limited in time..

Sorry guys, had some power cuts over lockdown, just bringing everything back up now.

Hi Muzzargh,
How are you doing? It seems that we are the only 2 people running the Philosopherstone client. The client is old, and it may even have vulnerabilities.... I would like to migrate to Ethereum, Cosmos or Polkadot/Substrate; we could stake there without having to run a dedicated client 24/7.

What do you think?

Let's connect over email or message client, it'd be easier as i am really not often connected to Bitcointalk.
Please DM me and we can discuss this further

Looking forward to discuss the future of Philosopherstone :-)

Cheers

Is it still on any exchanges? I haven't checked this stone for a while.  Smiley

The only one that I know of is Freiexchange, https://freiexchange.com/market/PHS/BTC

Who would be up to relaunch this coin? Perhaps we could migrate it to a different platform to increase security (i.e. fork) while keeping the same specs. It would be easier to stake online, like liquidity providers do in #DeFi. We'd need a new website and group on Telegram or Discord.

What do you guys think?

Should we connect over a call at some point? (PM me!)

Some of us are still here, but some altcoins have kinda died out.  Cry Undecided

It's true, but many of the coins that died were 100% full of shit. PHS had a fair POW/POS launch in 2013, this alone sets the project apart!
And then it's just running non-stop since then Grin

PHS is a gem, it's basic but it works!

I would personally love to have an updated Raspberry Pi build  Cool - I have 2 of these that could be spin on PHS.
The models are 2B/3, but i struggled so far because of the OpenSSL standard library. Perhaps a new build will fix that

I'm trying to sync the wallet, only getting one connection, wont sync as of now.

Anyone have any connections, nodes?

Hi Cryptoneer,
It seems we have lost a few connections in the last day. Could you guys please keep staking?

Here are connections that will work now:

63.142.251.194
185.156.175.134
70.93.174.250
81.56.132.106
82.33.200.180

Some of those works, thanks, I also see this one "addr" : "87.182.113.186:16281", but the wallet only syncs 1000 blocks more, each time I shut it down and reopen it. So I need to do that like 100-200 times more for full sync.  Roll Eyes

This is not normal. You should try to resync from scratch...

Backup your wallet and remove all data in the .Philosopherstone (Linux/Mac) or c:/user/yourname/AppData/Roaming/Philosopherstone (Windows)

You can use the bootstrap here to speed things up: we.tl/t-y0JVO8XRwg
Rename the file to bootstrap.dat and put it in the same folder as the Philosopherstone executable.
Launch the executable and let it sync, it will first process the bootstrap locally, then download the rest from peers.

Happy staking Smiley

Actually that reminds me  Grin . . . . I have a Pi running 24/7 and my PC goes for a few hours a day, is it an issue that I have 2 devices on the same public IP address?

Could be, as I was unable to see your IP even though I was connected for a while. I've had to add your address manually.

This looks bad, any ideas?

philosopherstone-qt: /usr/include/boost/thread/pthread/recursive_mutex.hpp:113: void boost::recursive_mutex::lock(): Assertion `!pthread_mutex_lock(&m)' failed.
Aborted

 Huh

I think you need to go back to the previous version(s) of Boost library; check the readme.
On Linux you also need to compile with an old SSL library (but the above doesn't seem to relate to that issue).

VladK? Noob_two? Palmdetroit? Any other idea?

The system has been running for about a year with no issue and no updates, this has just popped up.

Something was updated in your system, not the QT/Wallet

Would that happen automatically? It's a Pi running Raspbian and I haven't updated manually.

No it shouldn't happens automatically, at least not that I'm aware of. The technical issue is probably above my competencies, but here is how I'd go about it, step by step if previous step didn't fix the situation:
  • Kill the process and restart the QT
  • Erase the blockchain data and resync. I can provide a link with an old bootstrap, which may at least speed up things if you don't have it
  • Remove PHS entirely and re-install. Make sure you use v1.6.6.9b
  • Check that your raspberry Pi (or the VE in which you run PHS) uses the right dependencies/libraries: https://github.com/philosopherstonecoin/philosopherstone/blob/master/doc/build-unix.txt
  • Run the PHS executable on a Windows machine or Windows VM

Hope that helps.

I just ran a check of my wallet because the balance kept changing unexpectedly. There were a few orphans so I ran a repair and lost about 10% of my stones, is this normal?

Hi Muzzargh, same here. But now it's back up.

It's a problem of low amount of staking and difficulty adjustment, i believe.
We'd really benefit from stakers with bigger wallets - guys can you please stake for a while?

Also it seems that someone had the wrong clock time. Can everyone check and adjust?

Hi VladK,

Great to read you. It's great that you can look after the hosting of the philosopherstones.org website again. Is it possible to recover the content of the previous website? It was really good and contained reporting of the 'on-chain chat'. Let us know if you need help with support or funding.

Absolutely agree, we need to have a good communication channel. Telegram sucked as it was full of bots and scams, and no interesting discussion was happening. If i spend time on something now it would be Discord. Most projects are now using Discord - funny enough PHS was among the very first projects to use that platform; we were ahead of our time, as always Smiley

Do you still have the link to that particular Discord? Or shall I create a new one? Happy to animate it as well. Writing an article could make sense, I will try to write something when I get a chance. This project is awesome and still has a lot of potential!

On the QT now, would you want to upgrade the SSL version? I think it's important. And it could serve in a relaunch/rebrand of the project. Is that something that you could tackle?

Last but not least, we need some of the big holders to stake, at least a portion of what they have, as network weight is getting lower by the day.

Long life to PHS!

Thinking about the block rewards, we need the website up and block explorer as well if we ever want to grow the community...

VladK if you don't want to host the phstone website because of budget we can arrange that. I'm sure everyone can contribute, or take over if you don't want to get involved in the project anymore.

Let's coordinate: who is reading this in this thread and be interested in planning a project revival ?

active nodes?

There are many active nodes!

No need to configure the .conf file usually the QT connects to nodes reasonably quickly. DM me if you need help or join our Telegram channel:
