Been slamming my head against the wall on this.
If it's equal value btc vs gold I would take the gold any day of the week. I love btc don't get me wrong but gold has been around for a very, very long time.
Btc has a lot of threats these days. I just like knowing the gold I own is not susceptible to something as crazy as a solar flare. You never know what could happen one day. We're all gonna look really silly one day if there's no electricity but we have our flash drives and paper wallets. Not saying something like that is going to happen but ya never know.
If the shit hits the fan one day I like knowing that my kids and wife have a shot because my safe contains gold and ammo.

Has anyone else seen this before? I can't login to blockchain because my 2fa SMS has received too many text messages for the day. Ugh! Placed a support ticket but damn man I wish they gave some kind of a warning that says hey you only have two texts left today. I would have used google auth if I knew this. I'm sure nothing nefarious is going on it just sucks. I love the service they provide but being limited to my funds is silly. The vast majority of my coins are cold storage. Keep some there for playing around with.

and now my 1yyyyyyyyyyyyyy is empty. lets make a claim
.. now to use the private key i have secretly stashed away for the 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx that i pretended not to own.

insurance company have no more new insurance premiums's coming because the openly viewable insurance wallet is now empty. they can no longer guarantee payouts and everyone asks for a refund of their premium.
insurance company is now bankrupt
now tell me how will an insurance company prove or disprove a theft and that thief is not also the claimant

For what it's worth, I agree with you. The novelty / geeky-fun factor is what is relevant here. Some people would run these things even if there was no hope of a profit. That there is one (hope of a profit) makes it all the more appealing.

I'm not saying he will have 1btc. I'm saying what if one = 50k in years to come. For a USB miner and just letting it roll, it's kind of like their own little mini faucet. That $10 investment was insanely easy to make and could generate a good return. I'm just trying to say some people wanna dabble in mining and see what happens without going balls deep. What have they lost if it craters?
