Long term capital gains tax brackets [US]
by
suppersz
on 23/10/2017, 09:44:19 UTC
So in the US, it seems that if you are in the 10% or 15% tax brackets, long term capital gains are 0%. So if I am a daytrader and want to cash out $37k or less in a year (qualifies for 15% bracket), I can do so with 0% tax on the btc I sell, right? Is this too good to be true or would work fine?

If it is this model why wouldn't you buy it for $20 less then what you are asking and get the warranty while being brand new in box?
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315672

I do not know who would pay more for used product instead of untouched and brand new in box.

Fair point. I will change the price to $500

Re: Not Declaring Bitcoin Income

Until we only use bitcoins we are out of reach of tax authorities. Government will long sit as the dog in the manger. To accept bitcoin they can't because to lose power. Not to accept bitcoin, they also can not because the capital to run to where the access is allowed. It is better that black capital work for the country than it will be to support the economy of another country.

Did you guys check out the congress hearing about bitcoin a few months ago? I remember they brought in experts and tried to understand it, then kept asking "How do we regulate it, where is the pressure point??" to which the experts would of course reply "We can't" LOL

well those private keys derived from brain wallets were pretty bad actually. They are not really private keys, but still, I guess you can think of it that way, and brain wallets are absolutely terrible security

Re: How are you hedging the upcoming Segwit2x fork?
by
suppersz
on 23/09/2017, 01:59:40 UTC
I am completely new and not that techie, so will appreciate your guidance.

In November, which coin wil split or fork, is it bitcoin, or Bitcoin Cash?
Will it be another SegWit, or an increase in the block size?

There will be a new currency I understand. It wil be like the previous split and holders of bitcoin BTC wil receive an equal amount of the new currency? Or the holders of Bitcoin Cash will receive the new currency?

Sorry if I am asking “silly” questions, I am just a few days old with crypto.

Don't feel too bad, I can't fully understand why there is a disagreement in the first place. Considering neither side wants to back down, I'm at a loss and clearly missing something big.

The current BTC will fork in November into two chains that have different consensus; BCH is unaffected by this. One will use the current BTC consensus rules and continue as normal, the other will adopt Segwit2x and use a different chain with a common history.

If you own BTC you probably don't have to do anything. I would recommend you withdrawal all your BTC to an address for which you control your private key. You will automatically have coins on both chains in this case. If you leave them on an exchange, it is up to them which coins you get; you may get just one chain or both. You may need to be extremely careful about how you send them though in the early days of a fork. When ETC forked (or whatever you want to call it) from ETH, there were replay attacks and some users lost coins. If it forks similar to BCH, there was good replay protection and everyone was fine. Just be careful and follow developments and you should be fine.

This forum will be spammed by people trying to figure out how to get their 2x coins, and a bunch of them will be told they already ruined their chances when they already sent it to exchanges and their 2x is gone. I guess thats a good thing for those of us who can do it correctly, less supply means higher prices

Re: do i have to pay tax on bitcoins ?
by

on 21/09/2017, 14:20:34 UTC
so i wanna know do i realy have to pay taxes on bitcoins and does my gov recognize bitcoins as my property and do i have to care about any legal action by  gov on my bitcoin property ?

It is a must when your country have passed a bill/law about bitcoin, you don't have a choice if that is the case. But if your country like ours has no bill/law made for that matters you don't have to. They can only collect taxes when/if the law is implemented.

tell if you have the "f**k the system" attitude, it could be a choice technically. There will always be a choice, many people will fail to report their capital gains

Re: Bitcoin core and Bitcoin ABC on the same Linux machine
by

Call me paranoid, but I got my laptop to sync the damn thing (Bitcoin ABC) because there's no way im going to compromise my main machine with dodgy software, specially coming from the hands of Dr Craig Wright himself and the rest of scammers.

Im going to leave that laptop (which contains no relevant information or anything of value) to install all the failed hardfork attempt clients in order to sync the chain and dump the coins for free BTC.

yeah I agree, no way I am installing Bitcoin ABC anywhere near anything sensitive. At least use a vm or something

PosToken nearly 100 pages, gaining traction, thats good. Hopefully the exchange opening can bring in some more interest. Maybe it will end up as popular as deep onion if these giveaways keep up.

Re: Bitcoin falling again
by

OMG, Bitcoin falling again, current price = 3866USD.
What happen? we losing money every hours. Need exchange BTC to fiat?
Who can explain this situation?

You don’t need to be worry about it bitcoins price keeps changing (rise and fall). Bitcoin fall only for the buyers, once they buy bitcoin again rises some people sell their bitcoin because they actually don’t know that how this business run and they loss their money. you don’t need to be worry and don’t need to sell your coin just wait for suitable time when you get a good profit you can take your profit.

Six days after this panic was announced, we have seen several movements of ups and down, Bitcoin touched $4000 within this period and currently trading below the $4000. But this does not move me at all because we all know that the volatility is here to stay at least in the short term and there is nothing anyone can currently do about it.

What is of essence is what will happen after this turmoil period which is with the good news happening around and the next ones coming any time soon. The only advise to anyone is that rather than panic, do two things;

1. Buy more if you can afford it because this period might not come again and

2. Keep the ones you have because if you sell, you will be surprised at the amount of profit you would have made if you had waited for this period to be over.

This period is already over, it dumped below $3k, its done now, too late. Will probably climb a bit more, but I like to wait until the major dumps to buy quickly, catch the knife.

Some kind offshore definitely will be better than US or another European countries i think.

everyone always just says go offshore but I think it's a lot harder than people think it really is. The US really has dug its hand deep into regulating that sort of stuff nowadays.
