A VM that is connected to the internet is exposed to hacking, and the fact that your computer uses VMs will not immunize it. A cold wallet has no connection to the internet. Ever. Keep substantial amounts in a cold wallet. Discretionary Bitcoin used for currency needs can reasonably be kept in a wallet linked or occasionally opened to the internet, if the wallet is encrypted and redundantly backed up. To sum up, VMs are not automatically secure. Use hot and cold wallets after deciding the balance you want between security and convenience.
I succeeded in installing the NXT client two days ago, even though my VM is 32 bit Xubuntu. I purchased 1000 NXT at dgex.com and am now looking at an 18% increase in just two days. However, I am still awaiting confirmation of a test transfer of 20 NXT from dgex.com to my NXT client (no fee offered).

fiatleak.com offers a unique insight to daily patterns. Look for China to be the main player when the sun shines there, and US to be the main player when the sun shines there. All others are pretenders to the throne. When the sun shines on China, price movement up is robust. Otherwise, lackadaisical. US early adopters may be cashing in their chips already. But the Wall Street money is not far from the horizon.

Some events happened last week, that have forced us to make a decision to go out of business. A lot of issues compounded to press us to do this. The failure of the Klondike project was one. Chase, our bank, shut down our accounts. Also the delay in the shipment of the chips has resulted in a lot of customers asking for refund. We already owe a lot of money to PayPal, and with all the refund requests, it is impossible for us to continue our operation profitably. So we have decided to dissolve the company.
We are going to ask for a refund from Yifu. As soon as we get a refund from him, we will start refunding all the orders. We will be able to refund about 50% of every order with this amount. We are trying to get our money out of Chase, which will help us refund another ~5% of each order. We are trying to return as many components as we can, and as soon as we get more money back, we will send additional pro-rated payments to each order.

Terrahash does not seem to be accepting preorders/orders yet, but you can get on their mailing list at their website. KNCminer is accepting orders/preorders and apparently they've unwittingly set up some spurious off-exchange trading for the unregulated speculative derivatives "KNC preorder numbers" now recklessly being traded on bitcointalk. That's a real joker (tearjerker?) for newbies because KNC preorder numbers are free for the taking on the real McCoy site (kncminer.com), all of which are promises (assign your level of credibility here) for September delivery.

Thoroughly research this stuff and you'll probably be in a much better position to place your bets on the upcoming ASIC revolution. The wildcard, of course, is the exponentially growing difficulty factor for BTC. Another monkey wrench is whether the new hardware effectively sorts through scrypt, SHA-256 or something else.
kncminer.com is still taking orders for Jupiter and Saturn on their site for the upcoming September batch. Why anyone would want to pay good BTC for a ticket scalper is totally beyond me.

Do you enjoy paying extra money to ticket scalpers? How about getting into a wheelchair and offering your services to help people cut ahead of the line at Disney World? Ethically speaking, selling KNC's queue positions is no different as far as I'm concerned. You may be "helping" some people, but you're doing so at the expense of others.
Please reconsider what you're doing. You're hurting your own reputation. If you want to help people by researching a topic and then sharing what you've learned, people will appreciate that, but I personally do not think highly of people whose only intent when placing an order is to make a profit by selling a queue position. If this is not your intent, feel free to accept my apology and ignore this post. I'm sure in that case you would no longer accept any bids and you would just gift your advanced queue position to a stranger in this forum out of a sense of sheer generosity. If your research into KNC is so valuable to others, then surely you can find a way to market your expertise without engaging in line cutting. The fact that KNC is allowing you to do this on a limited basis doesn't impress me. If I were in their position I wouldn't want to hassle with you either. I believe you can do better than this.

Not sure what you mean. A few seconds ago I downloaded 90776 blocks of WDC transaction history.

One of the exchanges I use is cryptsy.com, which apparently does not deal in fiat currency. I would say they get a decent amount of business.
My understanding is that FinCEN is looking to regulate MSBs (money service businesses) that act as exchanges involving USD, which could be used to mask illegal money laundering. It's hard to see how converting, say, MNC for NMC, means a whole lot of money laundering is going on.

Is the Department of Homeland Security declaring war on bitcoin?
The Department of Homeland Security obtained a Court order yesterday which allows them to seize the assets of a Dwolla account linked to Mt. Gox. The affidavit submitted in support of the application for this Court order asserts that Mark Karpeles lied on his company's application for an account with Wells Fargo, and declared that he was not dealing in the exchange of money. Gox (not the pitiful "I heard it on the internet" response) to this event or the CoinLab lawsuit, post a comment on my blog!
