Small Miners vs. Giants: Is Bitcoin Mining Becoming Too Centralized Post-Halving
by

on 08/07/2025, 08:45:50 UTC
Hey guys,

Been thinking a lot about Bitcoin mining lately. After the last halving, it feels like the big, industrial operations are just getting bigger, and it's getting tougher for the little guys, even for hobby miners. Are we seeing a real shift here? Is mining becoming too centralized in the hands of a few massive pools and companies with cheap energy access?

Some recent reports talk about how the profitability lines are getting razor-thin for anyone not running the latest rigs on super cheap power. This could have huge implications for the network's decentralization long-term, couldn't it? What are your thoughts? Is this just a natural evolution, or something we should be concerned about for Bitcoin's health?

Just curious what the community thinks about the future of 'decentralized' mining

Re: Bitcoin Mining Pool distribution monthly reports
by

Hey, hopping into this thread a bit late, but seeing this original post from 2020 really highlights how much (or how little) some things have changed in crypto!

It's interesting to look back at the concerns about Binance Pool growing so fast back then, especially with the 'rollback' comments. Fast forward to now, and Binance Pool is indeed a massive player, constantly in the top few. The decentralization question around mining pools is still very much alive, even if the specific percentages have shifted.

Do you guys think the concerns from 2020 about centralization in mining pools have actually improved, stayed the same, or even worsened with the current state of the industry? And what's your take on the current distribution now compared to what was happening back then?

Re: Request tBTC for your development tasks

Finding decent amounts of tBTC can be a pain if you're just doing small tests or don't want to mess with setting up a faucet rig. It's a real bottleneck sometimes when you're trying to quickly prototype or debug something on testnet.

Thanks a lot for doing this for the community. It definitely makes life easier for devs who just need some quick test funds to get their stuff working without any hassle. Appreciate the initiative!

Re: Is the ETH Merge's Full Impact Finally Hitting Altcoins?
by
t3xasdolly
on 07/07/2025, 11:20:10 UTC
Hey!

I’ve been keeping an eye on the market as well since Ethereum's Merge, and honestly, it’s been fascinating to watch how things are shifting. At first, it seemed like not much had changed, but lately, I’m starting to see some distinct trends emerging.

Some Layer 1 blockchains seem to be struggling to keep up with ETH's upgrades, while others are definitely finding their own space and unique value. ETH's scalability and security improvements have opened up more possibilities, but I think there are still a lot of coins out there looking to create their own niche.

I’m personally excited about some projects that seem to be integrating well with Ethereum's changes, using the scalability and security upgrades as a stepping stone. It's like a new era for altcoins that are taking advantage of Ethereum's strength.

What do you guys think? Are we seeing the dawn of a new era for altcoins or is it still too early to tell? Would love to hear your thoughts on how the ETH transition is playing out for the broader altcoin ecosystem!

CBDCs: Privacy Nightmare or Inevitable Future?
by
t3xasdolly
on 07/07/2025, 11:09:44 UTC
Okay, let's talk CBDCs. More and more central banks are pushing these, and honestly, the privacy implications scare me. On one hand, it's digital money, supposedly more efficient. On the other, it feels like a step towards total financial control. Are we just sleepwalking into a future where every transaction is tracked, or am I overreacting? What's the biggest threat you see with widespread CBDC adoption, and how can the crypto community push back?

Are Meme Coins Still Worth It in 2025? 🚀 Or Is the Hype Dead
by
t3xasdolly
on 08/01/2025, 11:42:44 UTC
Back in 2021-2022, meme coins were all the rage
Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, PEPE — everyone wanted to catch the next moonshot. 🚀

But now it’s 2025, and things have changed...

🔹 Some meme coins are still around.
🔹 Others have launched their own utilities and ecosystems.
🔹 Most, however, lost their hype, and their value crashed. 💥

So, the big question is:
Are meme coins still worth investing in today?
❓ Or is the era of meme coins officially dead?

---

Let’s be honest — we’ve all seen how hype drives this market. 🤑
One day, a random meme coin skyrockets by +5000%
and the next day, it’s down to zero. 🤯

But here’s something to think about:

💡 PEPE coin exploded out of nowhere in 2024 and made millions for early investors.
💡 Some meme coins are now creating real use cases (yes, seriously).
💡 Even Dogecoin got a massive upgrade to improve its ecosystem.

---

So… what’s your take on meme coins in 2025?
- Are they a smart gamble
- Or just another bubble waiting to pop?

Let’s discuss! 🗨️
I’m curious to hear your thoughts. 👇

Circle's maximum is $300/week so they are useless.

Since you are USA based you can sell at https://www.bitcoinmag.net
About buying probably the best option is www.btc-e.com

I took a look at www.Bitstamp.net  and www.coinbase.com but they all wanted full verification.

At the end I decided to with https://www.bitcoinmag.net because their did not want any verification. I am pretty satisfied with the total fee too.

I know it is not Bitcoin problem, but I feel very unconfortable sending my ID scans to exchanges (I feel these ID scans might be stolen and misused). So localbitcoin is better, but the price is higher there.

Re: Are asic miners really as effective as heaters for the winter?
by
t3xasdolly
on 27/08/2014, 22:52:34 UTC
While they can provide heat, miners have 4 drawbacks:
1) usually no on/off switch
2) not child or pet friendly usually
3) not as cheap as natural gas in some areas for heating
4) Most importantly - hot PCBs and components give off VOCs that pollute the air - these are known carcinogens.  1 miner running 24/7 probably is no worse than new carpet.  Having a farm running in a house with no fresh air could cause permanent detrimental health effects.
4) can be solved by an air purifer if you are concerned about VOCs.

Home air purifiers will not filter out the dangerous VOCs.  They can ionize and capture free ionized elemental particles - they will not filter out VOCs.  You would need a scrubber like those found in respirators or activated filters.

The only solution to this is constantly bringing in clean outside air.  The self contained oil based space heaters don't emit much outside of their metal housing.

You can put the mining device to the tank with mineral oil. This way, any VOCs released should be in mineral oil only.

Re: Bitcoin slowly loosing its popularity?
by
t3xasdolly
on 29/07/2014, 21:00:52 UTC
Everyone is just looking at the current price and then making conclusions. This is wrong.
The price does not show if bitcoin is popular or not, nor is the adoption growing or not.

Not everyone. The most positive thing more and more places accepting Bitcoin. The number of transactions does not increase much though.

This is why I think the Bitcoin popularity grows, but very slowly last half year

I think around $ 450. what do you think about that?  Huh

It is most likely to be around $ 450, indeed. Finally I see somewhat stable price lately, not the crazy speculative up and downs seen recently.
