I don't agree.

They absolutely need to get their shit together first, but I'd like to see them get Litecoin going by the summer.  They're going to be overtaken by some other company quite quickly if they don't.  The market has a demand for multiple coins.

There was talk about MtGox adding it on their twitter account: https://twitter.com/MtGox

Right now, they are standoffish on the topic, but they are open to Litecoin.  They know the cash they'll make.

I make $9 an hour to nurse mentally disabled people. (a really bad job, we're talking diapers here)  I made $6k on BTC & LTC in last 3 weeks.

This keeps up, and I'll be on a perma-vacation and might not even have to wipe my own ass.  I'll pay someone $9 worth of bitcoin to do it for me  Cheesy

Re: Should I buy BTC or mine LTC?

Don't bother mining unless you enjoy the hobby aspect.  I've spent countless hours last year configuring miners, building, buying, repairing, etc....  With a marginal profit.  If I would have invested my few thousand mining dollars when Bitcoin was $6, I'd be sitting on a much bigger hoard of coins.

With your few dollars, I'd go 60% BTC 40%LTC.  It is good to diversify.  DON'T sell for at least a year though.  It will go up and down.

Re: Manga Readers(Silkroad for comics) feedback

Saying the "Silk Road" of anything is kind of dumb.  Other then the druggies, no one really likes that aspect of bitcoin here.  We profit from them, but the drug addicts don't tend to mine and build payments gateways,etc... This forum, I'd like to think, is more about people trying to make money by propagating a future for bitcoin.

With that said, I'm sure it would be easy enough to setup any kind of pirate site to charge bitcoin for downloads/memberships.  You'd have to really go over the top though, and appeal to tons of niche crowds.  I personally wouldn't pay for anything pirated.  I still buy my physical copies of mangas.

I found out about it on 4chan.  The discussion of the deep web, silk road and how to pay for these things came up.  I got interested in mining, and have been investing/profiting in bitcoin since.  Was distracted by the alt currencies a lot.  They never paid out properly.  You can make money, but they're iffy.  But yeah, of all places.....4chan.

Re: Could WoW switch it's currency to just 5 bitcoins per server?
by

on 07/02/2013, 12:15:28 UTC
I don't know what it goes for anymore, but I know WoW had sort of a black market to buy gold.  Their gold was going for something close to 500G per 1USD.  The value of the ingame currency & items are already higher then suggested.  Also, they run the risk of their bank/credit company imposing new fees for jeopardizing their business model.  Small chance, but not one overlooking when your cash cow brings in billions.

The big picture with Blizzard, Microsoft points and Second Life is how games can easily establish their own digital currency.  I am EXTREMELY nervous that Google will partner with Visa or Mastercard and spin off their own commericalized bitcoin.  Many other less secure systems will come about immediately (doesn't facebook have a currency now?), and we'll be left with the same paradigm Linux is in.  People will pay for a Mac with expensive OSX by the thousands versus a cheap PC with a free OS becuase of the commerical appeal.  Why wouldn't they invest and use a commerical coin if Katy Perry told them it is totally cool next super bowl?

Re: Investment in Litecoin: Good or bad idea ?
by
tatsuchan
on 12/12/2012, 00:48:23 UTC
LTC (like all currecies) hold a perceived value.  For the last 6 months or so, that has been about 7cents+ USD with it's respective ups and downs.  I have sold and purchased at different times for that amount in BTC.  It has been a great way of trading and investing in BTC.  I don't see LTC folding, but I do see it having days were it might drop low.  I wouldn't worry.  I believe Litecoin's health, and use, moves with the health of bitcoin.

I was an early adopter and dumped my first litecoin hoard in May 2012 and have regreted it since.  I've been holding on to my LTC hoard now, and won't be selling for some time. I wouldn't sell my BTC hoard either.  I believe they are both great investments, although Litecoin might be riskier.  HOWEVER, buying 10,000 litecoins could yield a lot more profit for you if the litecoin market jumps.  Dropped out of the mining game this week, and will only be buying Bitcoin in the future.  I'll still be cashing in at least 30% of that for Litecoin as long as the market/network retains interest & health.

My investments go like this: 50% Bitcoin, 30%Litecoin, 20% Silver/Copper/Other metals & investments.  I also have a handfull of PPC, but I'm not willing to invest much more than my few bitcoin worth.  I feel like it is TOO risky.  There is high risk in all p2p currencies.  One law passed, MtGox gets hacked, etc...etc... and the price could crash without ever really going up again.  Really, the safest investment you can make right now is pizza & beer.  You should see my nestegg of that spilling over my belt Sad

I sent an email requesting ppc to btc-e.  Would like to see support for it.  It is a gamble to have to deal with all the work of adding and taking away an overnight "fad" currency.  PPC is still kind of shakey as to it living or dieing yet.

The only exchange I REALLY care to see add anything is Mt.Gox adding LTC/BTC-LTC/USD.

Not trying to do anything complex here, but couldn't find an easy answer.  How do I get recent Litecoin price in USD for a website from BTCe?  I'd like to get a script going that I could post what the recent litecoin price is.

There is great opportunity for Litecoin as well as other alt coins.  As the value of Bitcoin goes up it only makes sense that fractions of it's wealth would be passed around by other means.  They only compliment one another.

I invest in silver, and right now I can't pay my rent or buy groceries with it.  Does that make silver worthless?  Give Litecoin a little bit of time.  Someone will set up a bitpay for ltc (if bitpay doesn't wake up and just support it already) and hundreds of people like me will add it to their webshops.  I'm betting on btc to gain more success, and I can see a market for a secondary p2p currency.  Ltc is absolutley the most qualified for that with it's gaining momentum.

Re: LTC price justification
by

I think using an analogy like silver to Bitcoin's gold works just fine.  LTC has great uses in a cryptocurrency system.  BTC, and other types of coins, can get along just fine with some failing and some becoming the gold standard.  Why wouldn't we have a Gold/Silver/Bronze system in our cryptocurrencies?  If a new technology came out that made a p2p coin better, why not use it?  I think many people are angry and scared that newer currencies will devalue existing ones.  They're right, it will.....but short term.  If Bitcoin can succeed, there is no reason others won't.

Re: What should I mine?
by
tatsuchan
on 07/11/2012, 14:32:22 UTC
Mine Litecoins.  They've been more profitable then Bitcoins for my 5850's lately.  PPC is an iffy gamble, but go for it if you're feeling Randy.  I've been sticking to my gaming computer (one 5870) to mine PPC when I'm not using the rig.  My dedicated miner has been doing 1.5Mh on Litecoin now full time.  Just turn down the gpu clocks and max the fan.

Don't worry about fans going.  They're cheap fixes, and they're affected just as much by heat as by use, if not more so!  If replacing gpu fans and fiddeling with math/computer setting isn't something you can do, the mining game might not be right for you.  In that case, I'd just invest cash in BTC/LTC.  I'd say a 50/50 split would be good.  If you're okay with the gamble, I think LTC could have better rewards.  I'm split 70/30 with LTC/BTC now.  PPC and NMC aren't bad to have a few dollars invested in.  I couldn't see NMC getting huge, and PPC is an infant that is underdeveloped right now, but it doesn't mean that you couldn't make a lot of money by just buying a $100 worth of both now for a longer term investment.

Re: "Yes, Litecoin is faster than Bitcoin, but what else does it do?"

Bitcoin seems to be more of an investment with value going up 400%+ yearly.  Litecoin might be a reality with online spending if the price stablizes somewhere low.  To me, and many others, they are both an instrument of investment and trade just like Gold and Silver.
