hiveos is very simple, you won't have to deal with any of these windows headaches..... get HiveOs it's free, x10 times better than Windows crap, I installed HiveOs 1 month ago and I'd never look back at Windows, ever!

Got to say that octominers customer service is great, my PSU died, I spoke to them on the chat and then an quick email stating the psu had died, they sent me the new psu after a few days, you don't get this kind of support in many places, because of this, I will continue to buy octominer products.

Btw octominer did you change anything on the new atx psus? this one is quieter than the last one which seemed to be running at full blast 100% of the time

Hey!

Glad to hear that you are happy with our products and the level of support we provide. Smiley
We are constantly upgrading and improving our products. Which ATX PSU do you have? We have a new 1650W one that has a silent fan that has 2 speed options also.

It's just the regular ATX Psu, but for some reason it's quieter than the previous one, no 2 speeds.

Would you guys ever consider joining the ASIC war against BITMAIN? has that ever crossed your mind? we need a competitor for bitmain as it seems like GPU mining is damned. We were just having a conversation with one of the ZenCash admins about forking off equihash as their difficulty increased insanely recently and it's kinda obvious there's ASICs mining ZenCash....

I gave them the Monero example, they forked and their difficulty dropped like 75%, it was obvious bitmain is pre mining their asics before shipping them, look at the answer Blockops gave me, one of their admins:

Give the monero and other GPU mined cryptocurrency hashrates a week or two to see what it normalizes to. Big GPU operations would just switch away from monero while there is a fork, then it takes them time to get their mining software updated to the new fork software, then they get back onto mining it.

It is not obvious that there are ASICs mining ZenCash. It is more probable that GPU miners switched away from the Monero drama, and after they get their updates done, things will settle out.

There are also going to be, if there are not already, miners that are FPGA with external memory for algorithms like Ethash and Equihash. The FPGA's would be able to be reconfigured after a fork to match the new algorithm.

The Ravencoin algorithm, X16r, uses 16 different algorithms in different order every block. Even that can be turned into an ASIC by using something similar to a Bitmain D3, and provide a connection to each of the 16 algorithms, then use a controller board to route the solutions in and out of the 16 algorithms.

Developers tend to underestimate ASIC and FPGA designers. It's not as simple as it seems, to just call for forking the algorithm when the hashrate gets higher than people like.
Hashrate can be a leading indicator. It means miners are willing to pay more for mining a cryptocurrency because they expect the price to go up in the future.

/////////////////////////////////////////

it seems like big miners are aware that GPU mining will eventually disappear since we can't really do anything about ASICs, this are very smart people and they are aware of the situation, the only way the game will be fair is if bitmain gets aggresive competition, otherwise, in my humble opinion crypto is useless, centralized coins? I might aswell go buy USD$ and Euros.

What's your take on this? would you ever consider this?

I replaced the 7 deltas with gentle typhoons in order to make the rig suitable for in the house. I am currently running 2 1080ti founders editions, 2 1070ti founders editions and a 1070ti mini. Temps are 60 or below on all cards and the rig is pulling 880w at the wall. I am very happy with this setup now that the fans are quieter.

P.S. Octominer, please do not cut the cables on the deltas in future batches. I would have preferred to have the option of using pwm control rather than just a Molex connection.  I would also recommend a grill above or below the psu mounting location to provide for better air flow to the psu.

That looks like it. Now to figure out some measurements! awesome find thx.

Octominer has yet to reply to my request for this information, so could someone who has this board please send me a simple drawing of its mounting hole locations.

Thanks!
Rich

I'll see if I can trace out the mounting holes with measurements. We'll be in the market for a frame if you can make one to fit this motherboard. Smiley

I just sent you a pm with a tracing + measurements for the mounting holes.
Thank  you!  Coming soon...

Spotswood, where do you order the material for building rig frames?

I was thinking of asking the same thing.

So this morning I took the time to move my 4 1080tis from biostar 12 GPU board (which was a pain to get all 4 cards working) to the octominer board.

It was very easy to get up and running and I'm impressed.  A little troubleshooting, but no pulling out my hair trying to figure out why the cards wouldn't work with risers.  Also, I didn't have to make any modifications to the octominer board bios before I started hashing.  Right now running Windows 10 with Awesome Miner, (using a SATA SSD) but might try hiveos sometime.

Only have 4 cards and left a space between them, but I could see it be quite tight with all 8 cards.

Would be interested in hearing folks that are using all 8 1080ti cards "open air" without a case - how are you getting rid of the heat? Right now I just have a box fan on top.

Here's a pic of my setup (pardon the mess)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nlwimn63m5l8grb/octominer.jpg?dl=0

it depends on which 1080 tis you are talking about. I have 6 1070 zotac minis and 2 1080 ti aus strix oc.

I have to run the fans on the 1080s at 70% and they stay under 70c. Running no external fans, but I do have a few extra case fans I might start running to lower the gpu fan RPMS.

I finally got it to work! reinstalled windows 10, disabled updates, changed a bunch of things windows settings and now i have x6 1070's. running,  a bit toasty at 65 C... I will keep moving that down, 65 is too hot I think.

OC:

Power Limit: 79
core clock +114
memory clock +650

Has been stable for 2 hours.

Glad to hear that you got everything running smoothly.
What was the issue before that caused instability when you added more than 5 GPU's ?

I could not figure it out, I had to do a clean OS install, blocked all windows updates and it worked.

It sometimes beeps 5 times when I restart it but now it does boot (we were troubleshooting by chat yesterday) to get it to boot i just kept restarting the mobo several times, there probably was some sort of software bios glitch or who knows, but got sorted out flashing bios a few times and restarting the system a few times.

Just got mine.

Is there a trick to powering up the server (non ATX) power supply?  Mine is completely dead.  I tried a couple of different power cords, so that's not it.

Did you figure it out? you have to "jump start" the psu. Google PSU JUMP it is easy and tons of youtube videos on how to do it.

Guys I am having issues connecting 5+ gpus.

I have their mobo, 128 ssd, 8 gb ram and their ATX PSU. For some reason windows is giving me a freaking hard time getting more than 4 GPUS STABLE, 5 gpus and windows gets choppy, 6 and it wont even load. Suggestions?

I have been installing one by one, turning the rig on, off, next gpu, on, off, and does not work. I change them slots, connectors, not sure what is going on here. any ideas would be appreciated. THANKS.!

Have you increased windows' virtual memory? http://1stminingrig.com/best-windows-setup-configuration-tweaks-for-mining/

Yes I did. I just hooked up my 6th gpu and it ran, very slow, in the desktop i can move the mouse but I cant open anything. I try Start, and it does nt open, i try nice hash, and it loads for a bit and closes itself... weird. i pressed cntrl alt delete and gave me an error: failure to display security and shut down options. the sign in process couldnt display security and sign in options when ctrl alt delete was pressed. if windows doesnt respond, press Esc or use the power switch to restart....

I've installed the RAM, plugged in 2 PCI-E cables as per the quick start guide but then turning the PSU on does not power on the board.

OK. Please contact us through our website Live Support chat and we will help you get your board up and running.
I have tried 2 other boards with 2 different PSUs and none of them is able to power on.
Turns out I needed to plug a dummy plug/jumper into the 24 pin which wasn't mentioned anywhere.

Glad to hear you got the problem sorted out.
We actually included "ATX JUMPER PIN" adapters with all the ATX PSUs so our clients do not have to make their own jumpers. Unfortunately for the first few orders our shipping agent forgot to include those. Sorry for the inconvenience.
