ASICs are good.

People think ASICs are bad because they were not or chose not to be early adopters.

Then you're one retarded Motherfucker. ISIS publicly using Bitcoin will be the End of Bitcoin(Price and Adoption Wise).

Yeah, Isis is that powerful.

You know, people in Isis breathe air and use USD too. Must be the end of breathing and USD. Hey, I heard some of those guys got their hands on some water... I think we're in trouble.

ISIS is planning to mint its own currency in gold, silver and copper, the group said Thursday.
Its aim is to stay away from the "tyrant's financial system," ISIS said in a statement. It said it would issue another statement to explain the new currency's exchange rate, and where it can be found.

Sounds like they are printing their own kind of FIAT. More scamcoin. I think this is a great opportunity to show them Bitcoin and get some users from the Middle East. The anonymity and low fees are sure to be a turn on. How can we spread the word and help Bitcoin go TO THE MOON!?

You're a freaking retard of the highest proportions. Why the hell would you want ISIS to use Bitcoin? Hell no they shouldn't use Bitcoin.

Stupid OP.

Um. I would rather ISIS use bitcoin than the US government...

Truthfully I would prefer both but I got a good laugh out of "We don't want the little governments fighting for land to use Bitcoin" compared to asking permission from the big governments that already have land

A Simple Proof of Work example in Python
by

Hey All,

I'm still new to crypto and I've been approaching it in pieces on the weekends. I recently did some experimenting and took some time to understand proof of work better. For any of the veterans around the board there won't be of much value here but your feedback/guidance/support would be appreciated if you have the time. Though I still wanted to share because I know many of us who browse these forums want to learn more and maybe there's someone who could benefit.

Everything is shared on my blog, here:
http://thetenthirtyone.com/?p=65

And on github, here:
https://github.com/tenthirtyone/Proof_of_Work

There's a PoW script you can customize that I think explains the principles of PoW fairly clearly.

There's a script to test your cpu hash rate.

And some of the data I collected included in github.

I explain the different parts on my blog and can answer any questions here or there if anyone is interested.

This is already detailed in the Bitcoin documentation under "HIerarchical Deterministic Wallets"

Well, it is detailed similarly.

Generated a private/public keypair like normal. Come up with your passphrase.

SHA256(privKey + passphrase + pubkey + index)

You keep the priv/public private as well as your passphrase.

Re: Bitcoin won't ever become Mainstream. It's just a Prototype.
by

on 05/03/2014, 16:07:21 UTC
TCP/IP will never go mainstream.  It is just a prototype.  The idea that a protocol that was state of the art in the 1970s will be used by billions of people in the 2010s is just stupid.  By 1979 the internet hadn't become mainstream so obviously it was never going to happen.  Something more efficient than the internet will come along and we will use that instead.

Let's be honest, TCP/IP shouldn't be what we use. Since the government held a monopoly on the early Internet for the first half of the Internet's existence they got to embed whatever they thought worked best instead of what actually worked best.

That said, I think Bitcoin is so revolutionary that no one is going to line up to build a second crypto infrastructure for a competitor coin anytime soon.

Of course, the worst part about Bitcoin gaining momentum is that the newer followers cannot keep up or won't participate in the education campaign required for them to understand basic economics.

You should hire a regulator to make a law preventing idiots from handicapping those who can care for themselves responsibly. Then you'd get all the regulation you could ever want.

Don't get BFL'd by NFC Ring
by
tenthirtyone
on 12/02/2014, 15:13:21 UTC
Those of us who were around towards the end of last summer may remember a fun Kickstarter called the "NFC Ring." In short, it was wearable technology. It featured a writable NFC card that could hold a Bitcoin public key.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mclear/nfc-ring

I was incredibly excited by this product. So much so I decided to be an Erli Bird backer. According to the Kickstarter delivery was promised in September of 2013. And as you can see they were wildly successful. It is a nifty product and a fair price.

Unfortunately that's where it ends. To date no rings have shipped despite being 6 months past the original delivery date. I had reached out multiple times in the past checking in on updates and shipping questions (I had moved, name change, etc) but never received a response. Weekly/Monthly updates always said the same thing: "Something is wrong, delays expected." but there was never a solid answer or date set, just more reasons why shipping wasn't occurring.

Today I emailed John McLear the entrepreneur running the Kickstarter. I asked when the Erli Birds should expect to see their rings since it was now half a year late. I was told to be more understanding and appreciative of his hard work and to go back and read the 50,000+ words of updates that are mish mashed with ring features that don't exist yet. Spoiler: All of them say the same thing: "Delays expected." I followed up explaining that I didn't share the passion for reading the NFC Ring novel and instead John just canceled my preorder.

I was asked by a few sources to follow up on my experiences with this company. So this is my summary. Try to avoid them, maybe in a year or two they will be together enough that you can pick up a ring but it's definitely not happening right now. Customer service is definitely the pits. Luckily, they had the rings manufactured in China so we will likely see cheaper knock-offs available soon. Perhaps wait for those instead.

If you are interested here is a pastebin with my name removed:

http://pastebin.com/fgDD2wfz
http://pastebin.com/sEEgXxVd[url] - with updates

tldr: Apparently Inaba runs NFC Ring & BFL and cancels preorders when you ask questions about 6+ month shipping delays.

I have been following you guys on Twitter and its awesome.

We are hosting The Crypto Currency Convention in NYC on April 9th. We would like to speak to speak and promote Devcoin.

Our mission is to bring awareness and acceptance to all Crypto Currency and not just bitcoin.

Education and exposure is the only way we all win.

We are expert marketers and expect 1500-2000 attendees.

This is going to be a huge success and we are so excited to be a part of this with you!!!
..

I am not going to the convention. If anyone wants to speak for devcoin, please message me.

That would be cool to do, however I'm all the way on the Wet coast Sad I probably won't be able to get there for April as I have work full-time. Maybe someone close by that area?

I would have some interest in this but I don't think I would be the best representative by my onesies. If I had enough time I could make it so I'm at least on the East Coast around that time so I could make it.

I appreciate the response.

But now that I reinstalled the client, I'm stuck at 11999 blocks with 7 connections.

This bites.

Hmmm hmmm hmmm. Are you in Windows or Linux? This is probably a better place than PMs to get everyone else's feedback.

To confirm, in PM I asked how many active connections eeh had and clarified addnode servers could be down and it would not help. I don't know enough about the devcoin network to help much more other than to say try running it with -rescan but I think the client does that automatically.

to everyone else:
Can you download the blockchain like other coins? If so I can set up a link to download a copy later tonight for you.

I sent the mod request through the "report to mods" button because there was no option to manage the thread. By a bizarre twist of fate I did not ask for; I  know that report function does work on your forum.

I'm sorry, wait. Now you are changing your story. First you said "I also asked the moderator to take the HUGE image in the middle of the discussion down "

Now you used the report mod button. Ok, well hunny, when you do that it just sticks the message in a queue. All that does is show the post to a moderator doing reviews. There is no context. Which apparently you know, as you stated for a fact you know it works on my forum. So you're a liar too. Because you didn't communicate with anyone or make any effort on your part other than hitting a button. But you're willing to trump it up like you took the effort to PM a moderator and make a request and have it blatantly denied. Oh you are such a victim.

And I can personally guarantee you the thread moderation is working. You're just too lazy to look below your Username in the thread you started. Honestly, do you ever take responsibility for yourself or do you make a habit of blaming other people for your shortcomings all the time?

Quote
I also locked it (The only form of management that I thought was available to me). Rather than allowing that to be my decision as the OP (which is how you suggest you run your forum) you unlocked it and declared there no reason to lock it.

Yeah I unlocked it. You're not going to come in to my house, make a mess and then think you can just walk away without letting other people say their final peace either. You are some entitled piece of work you know that. I thought Australians were a higher caliber than that. Throw all the tantrums you want but if you do it publicly be prepared to eat the crow your sow.

Quote
And you had the cheek to have a go at me about customer service? lol... its all I have but it is yours > lol

Yeah, your communication and people skills are garbage. I at least know to be nice until it's time not to be nice. Clearly if you don't get your way or what you want or if people don't magically understand the nonsense you type they're inferior to you.

Oh yeah what does "its all I have but it is yours > lol" mean by the way? You have my customer service but mine is greater than laughing out loud.

Thank you?

Quote
I was honest and said the same thing here that I said there. I understand you have trouble understanding me so to repeat, very simply:

I .. am..out

Apparently not. Continue to spin your bullshit where I am concerned and I will continue to call you out for the drama queen you are.

Any one having issues with blocks not processing?

Try adding a seed node. PM me for instructions if you need them.

Sometimes my client would take forever to download new blocks. It had no network connections.
