Re: How to find out the real execution (not sent) time?
by
thoste
on 13/12/2024, 08:46:32 UTC
I am still confused.

1.) Ok, if the history tab in Electrum shows the timestamp of the first confirmation:
Where can I see INSIDE Electrum when I sent initially the transaction to the mempool?

Again: TWO timestamps are required: initial sent (to mempool) and 1st confirmation.
That should be feasible in Electrum.

I don't need absolute exact timestamps. A timestamp +/- 30 seconds would be acceptable.

2.) The blocktime is a timestamp without a reference time zone and therefore useless.
Its like if I say "I pay you 4000". Pay what? US-Dollar, Euro, Swiss Francs, British Pounds?

A useful timestamp should have a visible associated timezone like "CET" (for Central European time) or PST (Pacific Time Zone)

    See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones

Or at least an indicator like UTC+-XX See here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone

Usually globally oriented software append this information to each timestamp value.

Yes, you can: the confirmation time is the blocktime from the block in which a transaction has been written to the blockchain. This is the timestamp that Electrum shows in the History tab, but of course only for transactions of your own wallet! Once a transaction is confirmed in a block, the blocktime shows up in the History tab.

Thats sounds exactly what I am searching for.

But: when the "Date" column in "History" tab is the confirmation time from Blockchain then where is the send time (=time when I send the transaction request to mempool)?

I though at first it was the opposite.

And one more related question:

The timestamp in "Date" column: Which timezone is it?
e.g. Central European time or US West Cost time or .....?

AFAIK, Electrum always take fee from the funds left not from the specified amount so if you want to send any amount including fee then subtract the fee that you can see while sending.

Yes, thats the way I could do it. But thats uncomfortable.
I don't want to manually calculate that. Electrum should do that for me

Receiver can pay fees too when sender doesn't want to increase fee or doesn't have control over the keys using CPFP but sender has to pay the minimum fee possible to broadcast the TX.

Yes receiver could pay fees too. But thats not what I am asking for

So ok. I cannot find out the confirmation time from within Electrum.
Instead I have to visit

https://mempool.space/

webpage. And then?

Where EXACTLY do I have to enter the Input address (or output address?) to get the info as shown in the sample post from  BitMaxz?

EUR value column shows some (not all) "No Data" on "History tab"
by

on 20/11/2024, 09:00:24 UTC
When I go to my "History" tab then a couple of previous transactions are listed.

Two lines contain in the "EUR Value" column a value of "No Data".
All other lines (before and after) show the corresponding Euro values for the bitcoins.

Why is "No data" shown?

How can I "repair" this?

BTW: Is the Euro value calculated for the time the Bitcoin transaction was performed (in the past) or always with the current exchange rate?

Re: How to pay with Electrum App on Android? Sign unsigned transaction?
by

on 08/11/2024, 11:05:06 UTC
Ok, thank you.

I was confused because on the bottom of the Electrum wallet Balance screen a button "Sent" is displayed.
A "Sent" button should indicate a full rather than a "Watch-only" wallet.

This should be changed in the next release.

A look into wallet details shows "watch-only". ok.

So can I turn this watch-only wallet subsequently (=now) into a full wallet?
Simply by importing seed or private key?
Or do I need a full new installation.

Later I want to toggle this wallet occasionally from watch-only to full and back.
Is this possible without fiddling with seed and/or private keys?

How to send an amount of 0.01 BTC where fee is included?
by

on 05/11/2024, 07:55:58 UTC
Normally users enter the amount which they want to sent and specify a fee which comes silently (!) on top.

So what if I want to sent a certain exact amount INCLUDING the fee?

Is Electrum somehow able to
recognize my offered fee Sat/vbyte,
+ calculate to total fees amount,
+ subtract it from my total amount
+ send only the remaining amount to receiver?

How does that work?

Re: How does Electrum decide from which of my addresses the BTCs are sent?
by

on 05/11/2024, 07:44:06 UTC
Can I somehow tell Electrum to use another addresses selection strategy?
Or even select the input addresses manually?
If you want to manually spend from an address or some addresses of your choice, use coin control.

On desktop Electrum wallet:
To access coin control, click on 'view' on the generally user interface and check ✔️ coins. The coin tab will appear which you can use to freeze UTXOs, addresses and to spend from addresses that you want to spend from.

Ok, thank you so far. But there is still confusion.
I am now on the "Coins" Tab.
I right click on a certain address and a context menu appears

When I select now

"Freeze"-->Freeze Coin

does that mean that (for the next transaction) this BTC address should be taken or the opposite?

Whats the difference between

"Freeze"-->Freeze Coin
and
"Freeze"-->Address

?
Shouldn't it be the same?

I guess "Freeze" means "Don't touch".

So if I want the opposite and force an address to be used I have to select "Add to Coin control". Correct?

How to find out the real execution (not sent) time?
by
thoste
on 04/11/2024, 14:19:01 UTC
Assume I send a certain BTC order from Electrum to mempool  on

2024-11-01-16:43

Afterwards its waiting in the mempool for a while (hours) until the execution.

The next morning I open Electrum again and found it executed. OK.

But how do I find out the exact execution time?

I want to get a idea how long it took for the fee amount I spent

I don't want average statistics for all orders from webpages.
I want the real execution/waiting time for my order.

If possible inside Electrum.
If not possible a blockchain monitoring web page is acceptable as well.

Who pays mining fee when sending money? Suggested mining fee plausible?
by
thoste
on 02/11/2024, 15:18:58 UTC
When I go to "Send" tab, and enter a target address and amount and click on "Pay" button
then a popup appears which suggests a mining fee e.g. 1.8sat/vbyte for a execution within 25 blocks

Who pays this mining fee? the sender or receiver?
I don't want that the receiver pays any fee.

As far as I can see the minimum suggested target fee is the one for "within 25 blocks". ETA
That means approx 25 * ~10minutes = ~250 minutes = ~4 hours.

What if I would accept a transaction within lets say 1 day =~ 144 blocks

Getting a suggested mining fee for that period seems to be not possible.

I remember (at least in former times) that even a mining fee of 0 leads practically to a execution with 1 or 2 days.
That no longer seems realistic, does it?

How does Electrum decide from which of my addresses the BTCs are sent?
by
thoste
on 01/11/2024, 14:13:05 UTC
⭐ Merited by ABCbits (2)
Assume I have (simplified) the following addresses with BTCs on it

111111 with 0.100 BTC
222222 with 0.200 BTC
333333 with 0.300 BTC
444444 with 0.400 BTC

Now I want to send someone 0.280 BTC.

I go to "Send" tab fill in the target address and amount and click "Pay".
Now Electrum decides automatically from which of my addresses the BTCs are taken.

As far as I can see it always the addresses with the biggest amount. Here 444444.

Why ?

Why not properly do I cleanup and take the money from addresses 111111 and 222222?
If always the biggest amount addresses are taken then users will end up with thousands addresses with micro amounts.

Can I somehow tell Electrum to use another addresses selection strategy?
Or even select the input addresses manually?

Sorry for this newbie question.

Is a local Bitcoin wallet file somehow independent? Migrate from/to Electrum?
by
thoste
on 24/10/2024, 10:12:42 UTC
I am using Electrum since a longer time and I am satisfied with it.
However I am thinking about a situation users want/need to migrate his other BTC client from/to Electrum.

Is there a way to access the own wallet somehow with another Bitcoin tool?

In other words is the electrum wallet file (not software) GUI/software independent?

This question arises for the other direction as well:

Can I open wallets created with other BTC clients with Electrum too?

What If a user wants to migrate from one BTC GUI client to another?

How to put alll settings into installation directory?
by
thoste
on 28/09/2024, 16:44:35 UTC
I downloaded portable Electrum for windows from

https://electrum.org/#download

and extracted it.

It works, but it is not really full portable. All settings are not stored in current Electrum directory but in another user directory:

C:\Users\ts\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\

How can I tell Electrum (portable) to use a different directory for all its settings (e.g. the current directory or a sub directory "myset" for it?

Is there a cmdline switch similar to

D:\tools\bc\electrum\prgm\electrum-portable.exe -settings "..\myset\"

Mind the leading double dots as relative path to the brother directory.

Or at least

D:\tools\bc\electrum\prgm\electrum-portable.exe -settings "D:\tools\bc\electrum\myset\"

Assume I open my BTC Electrum Wallet.

Currently I see only BTC amounts.

Is there a way to automatically show the equivalent EURO amount (calculated by the current exchange rate)?
E.g. in Status Bar at the bottom just behind the current Balance BTC amount ?

Re: Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode?
by
thoste
on 24/08/2023, 06:02:23 UTC
If you just want to see your transfers, then yes, you can use the watch-only mode. By going to create a new standard wallet -> Use a master key, and then paste or scan your Master public key QR code.

And to get your Master key from your current wallet, you go to the menu -> Wallet -> Information. You'll find it at the bottom.

This is exactly what I do NOT want. This procedure creates/replicates a full wallet.

First of all: I already have a a Standard Wallet on Windows. And I don't care (for now) about Tor connection.

My primary one-and-only focus is to create a watch-only view on Android 13 of an existing wallet on Windows.

After creating a standard wallet on Android and scanning the QR-Code from Windows Screen the wallet is created.
And it is writeable :-((((
I can send BTCs.

So again: How can I create a watch-only wallet view from an existing wallet on other device (Windows)?

Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode?
by

on 19/08/2023, 08:15:25 UTC
⭐ Merited by Pmalek (2) ,pooya87 (2) ,ETFbitcoin (1)
Normally I use Electrum Windows Program to send and receive BTCs.

However I would appreciate to have Electrum Wallet information on my Android 13 smartphone too.
E.g. to get information if I already received a BTC transfer.
or to copy & paste a BTC address and send it to my partner.

Ok, I could download and install the Electrum App to get access to my wallet over there.

But I don't want to open the wallet in full access mode.
Instead everything should be possible except sending  BTCs.
Therefore I need something like a read-only mode which cannot (never) be changed on in my Smartphone.

So it must by a special Electrum App compilation which never allows "write" mode even if I enter the correct wallet passwd.

Alternatively Electrum could offer a second wallet password for read-only mode.

Everything is acceptable as long as I do not have to enter my full "write" wallet password.

Is this somehow possible?
Or can this be implemented in the next version?

Wallet mit selber Adresse auf anderem Rechner einrichtbar?
by
thoste
on 17/09/2017, 14:25:57 UTC

A friend tried to re-login into these forums after a long time of inactivity.

He got the following error message from forum software:

Sorry pstein, you are banned from using this forum!
Your account is locked because it sat inactive for years after the password hashes were leaked in 2015, and was therefore at high risk of being hacked. Email react-vdnp8@theymos.e4ward.com to get it unlocked.

Contacting the mentioned help email address and asking for re-activation does NOT help.
Most possible this email is dead.

Could forum admins re-activate the account for user "pstein" otherwise?

Thank you
