I'd say he should track gross income and net profit for sure. And budget variance, to understand the difference between your planned budget and what you spent in reality on projects.

Thanks, they had two of these in mind, this is a confirmation. Appreciate it!

Any agency owners here? What metrics do you track?
by

My best friend and his brother recently started a creative agency. They’ve got a few clients, but things are a bit rocky. To get a clearer picture, they're tracking metrics like project profitability rate and net profit. As time goes by, what other agency KPIs are super relevant, in your experience? For those running agencies, what metrics are you tracking, and how do they influence your day-to-day decisions?

Re: Do you spend a lot of time on screen?

Honestly, I spend way more time than I would like to. It feels like every day, I plan a couple of activities that don't include my phone/laptop, and yet I never get to do them. There is always something. Either a work-related update or follow-up, or I simply can't stop watching reels on Instagram. I would say, on average, I spend 9 hours each day on some type of screen.

Why didn’t I find AI that makes Google slides sooner??
by

on 12/09/2024, 12:52:38 UTC
Alright, I’ve got to admit something – I used to absolutely dread making presentations. Getting the slides right always took way too long. But then I found a way to use AI to create Google Slides, and my entire approach to presentations changed.

At first, I was like, “AI for slides? Really?” But, spoiler: it’s amazing. Now, instead of spending hours brainstorming, designing, and writing, I just give the AI a few details, and it does the heavy lifting. Need a slick, six-slide pitch deck in minutes? Done. Need it to reflect my brand’s vibe? No problem.

I’m saving so much time that I can actually focus on the content – instead of stressing over slide design.

Anyone else tried AI for their presentations?

In my opinion, Dune and John Wick series have been standout franchises in the last five years for their stunning visuals and intense storytelling.

I think it is a successor of Steemit. It was a good idea to write blogs and earn some alt-coins based on votes. Like a social media platform, but for crypto. I'm not sure how it's doing now, but I've heard a lot of people making some money there a few years ago.

I try to make AI work for me, not instead of me. This should be the goal, in my opinion. I don't think there is a danger of massive layoffs.

To give you some context, I started collaborating with a cool startup. These guys are almost done setting everything up. Now, we're building a strategy to keep track of their website changes, monitor competition, archive social media posts, etc. Anyway, I made a point that the wayback machine won't really cut it, and we are looking into alternatives. I have nothing but appreciation for this piece of history, it's just that for building your own archive as a business - there are better and more reliable ways. Anyway, I often have fun on wayback machine, which led me to look up this forum there. I found that it's been archived there since 2011. So, I entered a couple of random captures from 2012 and 2013 - oh boy, it really felt like a time machine took me, well, way back. It was fascinating reading the old conversations. My nostalgia went through the roof seeing posts about Windows 7 and reading old jokes!

Re: What is professional networking nowadays?

I've been thinking a lot about networking lately and its importance for business success. Building connections can open doors to new opportunities, partnerships, and insights, not to mention getting clients. However, I often find myself struggling with it. I'm not the most extroverted person, so striking up conversations and maintaining connections can sometimes feel pretty overwhelming.
I hear you but unfortunately if you don’t talk then there is no way around it.

I too were very shy during my younger years. I was awkward and didn’t know how to make small talk but I tried to practice, often taking those extra steps forward. Even if it seemed like an awkward encounter, the good thing is that you tried.

How do you all go about professional networking? Do you rely more on social media and online methods, or do you still prefer in-person events?
Online is very useful these days and I find that it’s actually easier to be like yourself or to talk to people through the screen. You are given extra time to process your thoughts and think about what to say. However, I still find that personal encounters are the ones that build more established relationships.

Do you have any tips for someone trying to improve their networking skills? I'd love to hear about your experiences and any advice you have for making networking feel a bit more natural and less intimidating.
Look up small talk starters. May it be the weather, what they had for lunch, how are they feeling, or anything related to your work can be a good starter. I would also recommend to find your charm. Don’t try to copy someone too nard as it may just come across as trying too hard.

Lastly just practice and practice. You’ll get the hang of it soon!

Thank you so much for being this supportive. I completely agree about personal encounters building stronger relationships. I have been stepping out of my comfort zone on a small scale for a while. I intend to continue with this and do it more often. Hoping to start feeling less uncomfortable as the time goes by. Small talk is also a good tip, at least to break the ice.

I think Zoom events are also a popular way; this would work well for me to build some confidence. Do you have any tips for someone trying to improve their networking skills? Re: Just wanna tell you people to beware of fake friends online

It already isn't always easy to tell the difference between real and fake. But I agree, we will reach a point when it becomes impossible. This is a very serious topic, and everyone should be careful. We are talking about sophisticated methods, so almost anyone can be manipulated under the right circumstances. Scary.

Congratulations! My friend got married at the Inn at Laguna Beach. The ocean view and everything. A very beautiful place, not sure about the price, but overall, they were happy with the organization. I've been to Old Ranch a couple of times, but never on a celebration. Love the food there, and the staff are really kind and helpful. Sorry I can't help more here.

Can anyone help me with this? I had no idea it would be so nerve-racking. I tried using Selenium, but for some websites, those pop-ups and cookie banners are ruining it. Some screenshots are taken while the page is still loading; I end up having an empty space and a block of text/image missing. There are more and more pages I need to capture and I can't spend too much time trying to figure out each one separately.

Re: My bank brings in QR codes
by

on 14/03/2024, 16:03:30 UTC
From what I know, this practice is quite common in half of Asia but slowly becoming popular in Europe and the USA too. They use them for loan applications, where you can just scan a code to fill out forms and submit documents quickly. For example, my friend in Singapore withdraws money with QR codes, I think the bank is called OCBC. And it's not just banks – lots of businesses are using QR codes for payments too. I assume this is why the best QR code generator platforms keep investing in advanced safety features. It started becoming more and more common after the pandemic. I wouldn't mind dealing more with QR codes when using my bank's services, but the fact is people need to be careful. Especially elderly people.

I like both, but have a tiny preference for cats. They are so cute and silly. And as someone mentioned, it is more convenient to choose a cat if you have a full-time job. Cats are a lot more independent, generally speaking.

Re: Mobile phone addiction

Exactly, nowadays we don't only use our phones to talk and text. Or browse and play. I use it a lot more for work-related things so definitely for a couple of hours daily. Honestly, I think this fact helps me not develop an addiction because sometimes I can't wait to leave my phone and get some rest. But the issue raised is real, kids are glued to their phones most of the time.
