Re: Eligius pool - down. Good way to Gox your electric bill

Eligius?  Effectively down.  Deepbit?  Down.

These sites should be making bank at the moment, yet uptime isn't a priority.

Nor is my ever using them again.  I've moved on.  Both of them serve not purpose other than to gox my electric bill.  The site backers are not serious.

Bitcoin doesn't have a chance with all this lack-of-uptime.  Its impossible to keep any client connected 24 hours - and lately, if at all.  Going elsewhere where my kilowatt-hours aren't getting goxed away.

Re: Virus scanner for MAC

http://www.intego.com/  Intego VirusBarrier for Mac.  When I bought my very first Intel macbook the only thing in the Apple store was the norton software but it didn't yet have a universal binary.  McAfee had a mac antivirus software but they only sold it in packages of three.

I looked around and found a really good 3rd-party review for Intego.  I've used them on my Macs for years.

Re: Where were you on the day of 9/11?

From my point of view:
Bloomington, MN adjacent to the east side of Mall of America

I got a really odd phone call from a friend who worked in a building where the IRS and a member of congress had office space.  The call was something like, "Hey, this is really odd, the whole floor below us just evacuated....  GET YOURSELF IN FRONT OF A TV NOW, one of the world trade center towers is burning."

Before I could get to a TV my cellphone rang and it was mom.  "Where the hell are you?  In an airport, on a plane?"  It was a very brief conversation.  While I was talking with her I was watching police take up positions to block the access roads to the mall.  A steady stream of cars was exiting Mall of America - it was before business hours and the employees were being evacuated.

Got a TV working just in time to see the plane hit the second tower.  I knew I wasn't going to get any work done the rest of the day.  It was so odd seeing no planes in the sky...  I sat at home that afternoon watching the local TV stations from NYC and Washington.  I think the smartcard in the satellite receiver must've malfunctioned.  Roll Eyes

Why does the poll have fewer options than are presented on that Payout Methods screen?  I've already voted but I'm just curious.

Ah hell, I'll reply one more time.  1 hours and 58 minutes of "browsing" until I'm a real member.

Oh wait, that's all I had to say.

Don't let him charge you for YOUR time when he asks you, what the blazes is Bitcoin? and then you have to explain Smiley

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Nice to meet you, too.

Of course the advice wouldn't be free.  All I'm saying is "haggle."  It's a two-way street.  That or barter services, but I'd rather be an attorney's client than his vendor.

Anyway this is just another post to get out of the newbie caste so I can ask a REAL question about getting some part of a mining engine to compile on Amazon EC2.  Peace out.

I have a friend that owns a fairly small scale webshop dealing in hardware. ....

What we couldn't figure out though was what the law on taxes would be.

Definitely consult a tax lawyer.  Don't let him charge you for YOUR time when he asks you, what the blazes is Bitcoin? and then you have to explain Smiley

You might have to keep two sets of books, after a fashion.  All the transactions done in BTC with your customers, then converted to local currency (probably as fast as possible after the transaction).  That way everything is straightforward for VAT calculations, if indeed the tax lawyer tells you that you've gotta pay up.

Is there any possibility you could operate from a Free Trade Zone?  Eh, but that wouldn't solve anything because you'd still have to figure out import taxes for sales to local buyers.  Yeah, you need a tax lawyer. Smiley

Re: Newbie restrictions

The post count restriction thing is something I've never encountered.  If I ever have a client that wants a message board, there's no way I'd implement that.  Verify an email address and do bans!  I have what I think is a very simple question about XenlandMining pool.  I almost have it working - one of the cron jobs is trying to connect to something called Bitcoind.

I don't know if I need to install Bitcoind and would like to ask, but no one will ever see this question since I'm in the newbie caste.

hello...

Just got started last week with bitcoin and I'm hooked.  Have a homebuilt machine with a pair of Sapphire Radeon 6870's churning out hashes.  Right now they're each connected to a remote pool, but I'm looking to do my own (of course!).  Have XenlandMiningPool 99% installed on an Amazon AWS VM but am having trouble with one of the cron jobs.

Not sure what it takes to get access to post to the rest of the board. Sad
