Well, that's enough for this user profile, time to begin fresh...
by

For years I have been on this forum under this user name, but it's time to hang it up.  Too many misunderstandings, too many skeletons in the closet, so to speak.  Too easily searchable and tyable to other unrelated things.  People all hung up on the trust rating.  I meant to quit at 1000 posts, but I was too busy ranting over high GPU and ASIC prices this past month or two.

And this trust rating, by the way, was dented years ago.  I never bought or sold anything here to or from anyone.  All because I said I fixed computers on the side, and if I ever came across a bitcoin wallet on a PC, those bitcoins were MINE!!!  I meant it then, and I mean it now. Cool  Every PC I work on, I check for a bitcoin wallet, and I always will.  However, I must also say that finding one is extremely unlikely to happen (and it hasn't happened in the years since 2013), because anyone smart enough to know about bitcoin will not need to call a PC repair person.  I found a setting in my profile that I thought would hide or negate the trust rating, but that doesn't seem to work, on my PC it says 0 trust, others still report -16 in forum posts, which is BS.  And some people got all butthurt over my posts and hit the trust button, which is ridiculous.  I also said that I hoped some 20-something computer nerd mining bitcoins in his parents' basement got hurt or killed in a drunken friday night car wreck or something, and his parents called me to take care of his computer stuff which they knew nothing about.  That also has never happened yet.  Sheesh people, chill out!

So it's probably best to start with a clean slate, so to speak.  I'll have to be accused of being a low post count noob for a while, but that will pass.

I'm not saying I'll never post under this user name again, but I probably won't.

Time to go.  Clean slate time.  Now I have to think up a good user name.  I'll be back.  You just won't know it.  Wink

Haven't you heard the news?  The Avalon 821 is in mass production, and WTFPWNS the 741 in hash rate.  The value of 741s is dropping very rapidly.  The days of getting 1550 whatever that symbol is are OVER!

900 US dollars each is the best you can hope for, for old, outdated, OBSOLETE 741s.

R7 370 GPUs?  BBWWWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAhahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!  Boy you really screwed up on that GPU choice!  They would make a GTX 1050 look like a mining monster!

I'll pay $250 (total) for the motherboard, cpu, ram, and power supply.  Paypal is required.  I'll toss in an extra $50 for the frame.

You're a single post count noob.  You have no trust here.

Avalon 741 prices are falling on ebay!
by

I am enjoying this.  The greedy sellers of ASICs on ebay are feeling the squeeze.  Enough ASIC buyers know now that the 741 is the old, outdated, OBSOLETE miner, and since 821 prices dropped (kind of) to a still rip-off $2899 from an obscene rip-off $3599, 741 prices are coming down.

I was just on ebay, and I counted 10 auctions with BIN prices under $2000.  A month ago there were rarely even 5 741 auctions at any price, and they were almost always $2500 and up.

Now the sellers are getting nervous.  They are desperate to unload their miners and save some of their profit.  Supply is exceeding demand.

Would I buy 741s?  Maybe, but not for more than $1000.  I don't need them anymore, I switched to GPU mining and have been enjoying it.  So they would have to make me a deal I can't pass up.  Now we just have to get 1060/1070/1080 prices down.

I'm still interested, but my offer has dropped to $275 each from $300.  Paypal required for buyer security.  I am leading the charge against overpriced GPU sellers, we will drive you into the poorhouse by banding together and refusing to buy if it is overpriced.

You better sell them to me now before I drop to $250.......

My trust indexes say 0 -0/+0.  What are you seeing?

But just like at a park where there are signs saying "Do not feed the animals", that's what we have to do here.  Take away their profit opportunity.

I routinely go on ebay and message sellers telling them what I will pay for their GPU, and how lucky they should feel to be getting that much.  More for harassment than anything else.

I guess a good rule of thumb is if the GPU can earn back its price in 100 days or less, according to the NiceHash calculators, then that is not too terrible of a price.  But over the last few days I have seen people trying to get $600 for 1070s and that is insane.  I just say no and I do not buy.  Do not feed the animals!  Wait a few more weeks to expand your GPU farm!

And I agree, the Chinese are pure evil.  They are the masters of stealing intellectual property and counterfeiting it for themselves.  Trump is right to push them on trade wars.  I've seen some of the sellers on Alibaba and emailed them.  They want only bank transfers or Western Union.  I noped on out of there.

I did get one into my cart, but then the cart screen had the pink line across the top saying it wasn't available.  A few refreshes on the product page later, and it showed 1 available, the last one, but then by the time I hit Add to Cart, it was gone.

A lot of non-mathing mofos out there.  Double the price of a 741 for 50% gain  in hash rate?  Yeah..... NO.  And with the new lower BTC prices which universally equal LESS PROFIT.  A fool and his money are soon parted.  Looks like some people took out advance loans against their upcoming tax refund.  Not me.

CALL TO ARMS - strike back against overpriced GPU sellers! End of high prices!
by
timk225
on 24/01/2018, 01:38:19 UTC
Now that I switched from ASICs to GPUs, I have a direct interest in getting the best deal possible.  And these GPU selling jackholes think they can charge ridiculous amounts for them based on the laws of supply and demand.  As a Republican, I am all for making the most profit possible, but only when it works in my favor.

But their way only works if you work with them.  This overpriced GPU horseshit has been going on long enough.  NO MORE!!!

And the solution is simple.  Set a price, and refuse to pay more, regardless of how badly you want them.  Those are not the last GPUs for sale on the planet, more will be made.

Offhand, I'd say no more than $50 over retail price for any GPU you want to buy, Google it and read the reviews on it when it was new and base your offer price off of that.

Imagine these overpriced sellers sweating when all of a sudden, their profits disappear.  Days go by with no profits and the wife is starting to nag them to get the money back in the kids college fund like they promised.  No one will buy the GPUs they spent thousands on, maxed out their credit cards on, took out a second mortgage on.  If they want to make a profit, it won't be from us!!!

Some of my own personal limits are in the general range of $250 for a 1060, $350 for a 1070, and maybe around $500-550 for a 1080.  A Ti might get an extra $25.  Founders edition?  They can wipe their ass with their Founders' Edition logo, it makes no difference to us, any overclocking will do more.

So stand with me and JUST SAY NO to insane GPU prices.  Let their ads run and run.  Let their ebay auctions end without your bid. Make them regret their greed.

Spread the word.  This only works if we all stand firm.  Tell everyone on other forums that high GPU prices are over!!!

Fake GPU listings on ebay
by
timk225
on 23/01/2018, 11:36:26 UTC
I was looking around on ebay last night, and I was seeing listings for new 1070s and 1080s that were going for less than $200.  Either someone is a complete idiot, or is super rich and giving them away, or it is a scam.

Only thing I wonder about is if it is a scam, which it probably is, why not ask for more money?  Even if they asked for $300 that would still ensure a fast sale, and they'd get more money.

Extremely overpriced.  And they are USED.  I will give you $7000 for all 5 S9's.

And you keep saying AS IS, so that tells me you know something is wrong with them.  When someone buys them, finds their problems, and complains, you will say "Sorry buddy, AS IS, hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!".

Andrew, you are a complete jackass for even suggesting such obscene prices.  You ARE trying to price gouge, and we will not stand for it.  I will take 1070s, but I don't give a RAT'S ASS if they are founders edition or not, a 1070 is a 1070 as far as I am concerned.  $300 each is my offer through either PayPal or an escrow here.

I can buy 1080s that will mine more than those 1070s for $700 or less on ebay, newegg, or tiger direct, so you're gonna have to come in a lot cheaper than that with your USED GPUs.
