There are large risks for medium operations too.  Maybe even more than those who have cheap rent and electricity with larger mines. Difficulty is not slowing down with the price drops either.

So after about 2 straight weeks of mining perfectly, the SMOS just went down with no error code, overheating, or anything I could see.

I tried the internet connection, a new USB, and unplugging/restarting the rig.

Lastly, I deleted the current rig that was not connecting and now when I plug in SMOS can't find any rig in my dashboard.

The monitor code says that it wants me to connect to the rig that I can't see.

What am I missing?

I don't know what difficulty estimating sites you guys are using, but I've found BTC.com's estimator is decent enough after Bitcoinwisdom's estimator broke:

https://btc.com/stats/diff

Seems like some people weren't aware that Bitcoinwisdom was broken for quite some time and hasn't been fixed.

I think that one is still taking into account the extra blocks found yesterday when the difficulty was less, etc.

Here is the best one that is up to date after each change in real time:

...

Difficulty increased 16.84%

My next hope is that it stays flat since no new S9's should be shipping out until March now.

I hope it stays flat also but there is a shipment due in February...at least I hope it is because I have one on order for the February shipment. Grin

Dang.  I didn't know they had any going out during Chinese new year month.  I guess another "positive" is that Antpool and BTC.com had a big stretch of 10-20% above luck last week, which is like 40% of the network hashrate. Let's hope they have normal luck or something this time.

It would be nice to get another block before the diff change.

Mine on!

Got an estimated on the next change?

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

That estimate is incorrect we are already at 2.23 T difficulty and looks like we are probably going to add another 15%. Looks like it should change in 17 hours or so. I used to trust the numbers at btc.com but not sure I do at this point, they have been having some issues lately.

I'm hoping for 16% or less increase at this point by tonight's adjustment.  A lot of hashrate was pointed other places and/or shut down yesterday to stop the pace from reaching a 20%+ increase.  I was already hoping for it to slow down from this last 15% increase but a ton of power and machines have been pointing at BTC the whole time, since all coins have been down in price and there wasn't anywhere else to go this past 10-12 days for SHA-256.

ok, seeing as the last time I - *jumped on the pool*, we found the block... In the same spirit, I added another 8TH.  I suppose you could call it another 16TH as I added another 8 immediately after that last block.

Mine on!

Great!

The pool has grown almost 50% since the beginning of the month (30 PH to 45 PH), so that is a good sign to stay around the 3 day block luck average, even after the next difficulty increase tonight. Once more and more people do the pool hopping around like I did, and realize how much better it is to be here instead of what the bigger pools do to the "little guy", it will hopefully grow at a bigger rate as more and more blocks are found.

ok ... have been trying to interpret some of the previous posts ... apologies for the fast fingers on my most recent one ....

if i add more hashrate to my group (i.e. adding 7 other S9 workers to my account) .. will that help me ramp faster? or each worker will need to ramp on its own?

While the S9's each ramp up separately, you would be producing more total shares as they ramp up and earn more per block found as well. The ramping up may seem like a hurdle, but you have to remember there is always a "ramp down" period that is equal to the ramp up period. If you ever move machines or unplug them, you get rewards from blocks found after that even when you don't have your hashrate in the pool at the time.

Quick question for miners on Kano.is ...

I pointed 1 of my new S9s to Kano ..to try out this pool.  I get that it takes 5 days to ramp ... but for some reason, i only got 1 reward so far (on my 2nd day only), at 0.00100987 btc.  day 3, 4 and 5 I had zero reward/payout.

Can someone elaborate why this is the case?  I thought it would ramp consistently, and get sequentially more each day over the 1st 5 days.

At the current rate, if this persists, i'm not gonna point my other S9s ... cos im getting pretty consistent 0.0018 on slushpool and 0.002 on antpool per S9.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I should start a website and guarantee miners payouts per day. Then take the hash power and point it here and bank on the difference.

I just joined the pool, but I think that is the problem that will keep it from growing. People seem to think that because they get paid more, they are making more money. Also, the 15 day ramp up as well. Too many don't do their research and want instant gratification.

This has been gut wrenching to monitor.  Not only are the biggest pools growing in hashrate astronomically, but they are finding blocks well over 100% luck on a large scale for this difficulty adjustment coming up.  Antpool is at 121% luck for the last 3 days!  That is literally insane.  The difficulty projection jumped from 14% to almost 20% just in the last couple hours for the ENTIRE 2016 block period due to how many blocks the network is finding right now.  And ofcourse Bitcoin is tanking as well..........

LOL, this is my karma so affected  Grin

you probably want to ramp up while the luck is down and then once you are fully ramped get the luck to hit like it did just a while back with 4 blocks in 2 days

my math is probably wrong but just saying if we did hit a bunch of blocks when you just joined you would be complaining on the low payouts for pre-ramp

I think in any case it's better to just find blocks as quick as you can lol.

A silver lining for ramping up is that a bunch of blocks weren't found, but that also doesn't mean that a bunch of blocks will be found once you're already ramped up either.

I am having the toughest time with all this, as I pointed my machines at Kano when I got my first couple S9's running from Jan 1-7th, and then moved the rest of mine on January 16th right after the last block was found.  Long story short, I am the ultimate jinx since there has been no blocks found while I'm pointing towards the pool during the 12+ days I've been on.  I did get paid out the small amount during the lucky stretch, so I understand how it all works, just getting scared to death of the 300%+ blocks that would add up to 10 days or longer with difficulty jumps, etc.

So it's your fault? Thank god, I thought it was me... Just kidding. Historically this happens with any pool. It just happens to be more apparent if the pool itself doesn't find a lot of blocks due to size of the pool. This also means we get paid better as miners for the blocks we do find. Keep that in mind.

Yea.  I have been in "research" phase since I ordered my miners in late November.  The part of the mining that I didn't understand until recently was just how chaotic and random the luck factor is.  At first, I was under the impression that with such large numbers the luck factor would even out faster, but have quickly learned it is actually really insane short term, and unfortunately even over periods of months, not always close to 100%.
